Re:Intel Launches Notebooks
GM's press release regarding sale of EMD.
Wikipedia could be wrong, but in this case, it isn't. It has several other links there confirming the sale. -
Re:Intel Launches NotebooksGo to www.gm.com, and select "Electro-Motive" in the "companies" category of the "GM Brand Web Sites" drop-down. EMD is still there, along with the other traditional GM companies, like Allison and ACDelco. I actually checked on EMD while writing my ealier post, intending to link to them, but decided not to be so long-winded.
I guess this means Wikipedia could be incorrect. <blink blink>

GE or GM
I don't think Union Pacific builds their own equipment anymore. But maybe General Electric or Electro-Motive / GM EMD could provide build the ship.
Hmm, I can't seem to find the "Add To Shopping Cart" button on either of those websites. Internet shopping revolution my foot! -
Re:Take your damned tinfoil hat off!
It's even more difficult to believe when you conside that GM has a division that is the largest maker of locomotive engines. And GM has owned the company since 1930.
-
Re:To heck with hybrid/electric ...
And while GM is scrapping EV1s and arresting dissenters, its locomotives are open-architecture .
-
Re:To heck with hybrid/electric ...Why can the train companies develop these huge, fuel efficient engines decades ago, but we can't seem to learn any lessons from these and apply them to cars.
Especially since one of the largest builders, EMD Locomotives, is owned by General Motors.

Re:Odd thing about trains...
The lower temperature and reduced solar wind definately help the sounds carry further. It's also worth noting that train engines and their massive weight on tracks produce intense low frequency sounds that are nondirectional by nature.
Train engines are 16 to 18 cylinders, 10-15 liters per cylinder and usually run at around 1000 RPM.
Some locomotive engine specifications:
* GE Transportation Systems
* GM's Electro-Motive Division -
Re:Hmm...
Evidently General Motors thinks the same way (they make locomotives, too

Re:HD Abuse
My favourite method is to put them down, and run over them with a EMD SD90MAC...

Re:That's fast!Bah, that's nothing. A good duet of SD-70ms will bring 10,000 tons to 100 km/h (60 mph) in less than 10 minutes.
And it could run Linux.

GM SD90MAC 0-75 in 3.1 miles! pulling 200,000 lbsA GM SD90MAC may be slow accelerating, but when you can move 170,000 lbs. at 75 mph, people DO get out of your way. (usually)
6000 hp! (yes, six thousand) I LOVE it!
