Re:So 19th century
A couple of years ago, Darren Kitchen of Hak5 interviewed Amal Graafstra, who had an RFID implanted in his hand for accessing his office building and starting his motorcycle. Neat stuff.
Can't remember if it was this episode or this one, but here's a clip of the system in action.

Re:Extensions needed!
Hak5 covered this in a couple of recent podcasts. Unfortunately, they've found some security issues with it. It's better than nothing but not as secure as you would want.

and

Have you looked at the Hak5 website.

They set up a server cluster for hacking competitions. It may well be worth your time too look at what they did. -
Re:Reinstall Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is a great starting point. Not because it's exactly a clean Linux distro (more like hanging loose with duct tape and awesful customization), but because of the support community around it.
Once you get used to Linux-ing around, go to Fedora because it's new, clean and raw and thus learning material.
But before you shift to Fedora, watch the excellent noob-friendly Hacktip series from Hak5:

FTR, this concept was demonstrated by Darren Kitchen on a 2009 episode of Hak5.

Not really a flash drive
What can you do with something that looks alot like a flash drive? Anything you can type into a computer. http://hak5.org/episodes/episode-709

Hak5
This idea was featured on Episode 823 of Hak5 http://www.hak5.org/episodes/episode-823, where Darren used the boxes that came with theasus motherboards he was using to setup a proxmox virtualization cluster.

Re:Ramen
I was just thinking of a jasager wifi pineapple or something similar would pre fairly effective for in-class on test days.

Re:Did it actually fly? Broken wing.
The makers of the WASP give an interview in the s7e25 episode of Hak5, where they explain that the platform currently has a very tight flight envelope. It's almost always on the brink of crashing. Quote: "It flies much like a wounded harbor seal would. [...] It's a real juggling act to keep it in the air."

Zipit Z2 - $50, similar / better specs
The Zipit Z2 is easy to flash with Linux, has a MiniSD slot for additional storage, built in Wifi, Querty backlit keyboard, 320x240 screen, 312MHz ARM chip.
People making custom distros for it have already managed to cover all aspects of the machine's hardware... lid switch, backlight adjustments, etc... I bought mine on clearance at Target in October, and it's an adequate pocket Linux box for me while I wait for my Pandora. Here's a sampling of what people are doing with it:

Re:So let me get this straight...
What if someone actually wanted to secure a VM with this app?
I assume a program could detect if it's running in a VM by checking hardware and matching it with known VM configurations?
But anyone who's really serious about security shouldn't be running Windows anyways, even with full-disk encryption. What I'm interested in is seeing how COFEE presumably executes with admin privileges on a locked Windows PC with no user input - the technique could be used to make a "super switchblade," especially if it can run on Vista/7 which aren't as vulnerable to these attacks. I'd imagine COFEE uses some secret backdoor. -
free alternative
Ok, the tool from Microsoft is 'free' also, but here is something with way more options: http://wiki.hak5.org/wiki/USB_Switchblade

Why read a how to, when you can watch it?
Hak5 http://hak5.org/ just did a segment this week about this. Informative, entertaining, and not OS specific.

Re:Jasager
That's a pretty fruity idea.
Maybe, but it wasn't mine.

Hello? Hak5
Hak5 did this a while back. They also did a few videos about it. The code has been around for a while.
You can even control it yourself from the web, if it's not Slashdotted, over at the Hak House.

Definitely Hak5
http://www.hak5.org/ They like to open stuff up and see how it works. Also they have good interviews - not only do they ask intelligent and relevant questions, but they pick good people to interview in the first place - many of whom nobody would ever consider putting in front of a camera.
-
hak.5?
hak.5 was one of the shows i followed. whether or not their topics are described in-depth depends on your definitions, i stopped watching it because i found them not to provide any in-depth information. however, they do show you how to set everything up and do stuff, so it's certainly not a useless surface show.

Reference for the massesA reference for those of you who don't have your fingers on the security pulse:
USB Hacksaw - Hak5
Description:The purpose of this hack, dubbed USB Hacksaw for googleability, is to automatically and silently install on windows 2000, XP, or 2003 machines with either administrator or guest access. Installation consists of hiding the hacksaw tools in a hidden folder, add to either registry or startup folder depening on user rights, and start the program.

Yeah, got to agree, Hak5 rocks! Geek humour, techy bits, mods, hacks and even occasionally girls

Re:How long before we get massive commercials in t
Jenn is right. There is no money in vidcasting/iptv. To date Hak.5 has made about negative $3,000. I'm sure Jenn can attest to the same. We're doing this because it's something we love to do. As I mentioned in our first post on Hak5.org: instead of building a beowulf cluster for fun, we're building a beowulf cluster for fun, filming it, and sharing the fun with all. I can almost guarantee that the handful of IPTV shows out right now would agree to this statement, and I seriously doubt any would sell out to commercial interests.
Very happy to hear episode 3 is coming. Episode 3 of Hak.5 will be out on the 5th of October. -
