here are some hints.
I had to do illegal stuff to get rid of the flag.
first configure your HDHR to act as an actuall DVB device in your recording server. This requires installing some drivers. Then you need to open up your cable card and wire it to your PC via rs232.Then you need VDR-SC inside there you will find a package SASC-NG and modify it to work with your cable card just look at the source. This will convert your cable card into a server and many clients can connect to it even people from other houses. This is where it turns illegal IMHO.
Since you installed the driver for HDHR you can access the stream in chunks the whole and record all the TV programs in that channel or transport stream. I hope you know the difference between physical and virtual channel. And SACS will decrypt it for you and leave you with a named mpeg file.
If you're using satellite is easier specially if is dishnetwork. You need a smart card reader and a DVB-S tuner. and the same software. Also satellite is better because the HD streams are in MPEG4 format which translates to HDD space saving. You can read more about it here

Re:The Video Shows the Holy Grail of Sat Hacking
Why don't you come back and help again, http://dvbn.happysat.org/ drop by the linux section. We could always use more coders. We like to use DVB cards to record directly to HDD in full mpeg2 or mpeg4 TS.

Re:DVB recordings with dishentwork are awesome.
yes you can. YOu need a dvb pci card. It can also work with HD, but the settup will be more expensive since there is no DVB-PCI card that does 8PSK with turbo FEC. But you can record HD from the canadian provider. You can buy a cheap DVB-S pci card. I seen twinhan DVB-s sell for about $50usd. But if you want to get HD from dishnetwork that will cost alot around $300. You'll need to buy one of those http://www.genpix-electronics.com/index.php?act=v

Free dishnetwork with DVB-s and mythtv
Get a DVB-s card + Mythtv point your satellite dish to a dishnetwork satellite. Install the magic software softcam software, and you get your self a magic black box that gets all the dishnetwork programs for free. it just graws the mpeg file from the satellite feed with 5.1 surround sound and all.

Re:Get a DVB-S cardIn NA you can recieve DishNetwork and Bell ExpessVu for free with these cards. There are many different bits of software you can use to do it. Although you cannot use them to recieve DN HDTV signals from any of the satellites, BEV sat Nimiq 2 has almost 40 HD channels that can be recieved. Whith a 100cm dish, universal LNB and dish motor, there are literally thousands of channels across dozens of satellites that can be recieved. Both FTA and encrypted... even remote news feeds
For all you linux lovers out there, this is the perfect choice to build a HTPC using MythTV.
This site is the best place to find all the info you would ever need to get started.
