Re: Who is affected?
What's a balanced meal? I just Googled it and got a bazillion results.
That's what a balanced meal is. a varied mix of things. No need to go vegan, or paleo, or keto, or any other bullshit. Just mix your mains with veges. Eat some fruits. If you're not intollerant get a bit of dairy in you.
Don't eat every meal with a maxi-sized fries. Don't only eat your protien and shun the greens. The idea of a balanced meal really hasn't changed in many years. It's still the same thing your grandma used to put on your table.
Also you got a bazillion results, I got 459 million. But let's look at them sequentially:
https://www.alimentarium.org/e... - Quarter carb, quarter protien and half veg/fruit
https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/e... - this one has a slightly larger carb portion at 2/5th
https://www.verywellfit.com/an... - this one discusses in a different context but mentions you should balance fats, fibres and protiens
https://www.health.com/nutriti... - same story, don't forget your veges in every meal and don't be afriad of fats
https://www.birdseye.co.uk/nut... - what's a balanced meal? Protien, carbs, and veges
https://www.gousto.co.uk/blog/... - quarter protien, quarter carb, half veg
https://www.chicken.ca/health/... - this one says you should have a mix of protien carbs and veges but doesn't give you ratios.
https://www.realsimple.com/foo... - google tossed a few recepies into the results too but you'll see they fit the above advice. So even with so many results they are quite consistent. A lot of them repeat advice that has been standing for a long time: veges are important, carbs and protiens should be mixed in smaller portions. Even the sites which don't directly deal with these core parts of food will make recommendations that fit in there too.
But really the best advice you can probably get is go get your grandma to cook for you, but then resist the desire to eat the entire plate (because we all love grandma's cooking so much, and she knows it and will heap it on). Yeah shitty advice I know. I always put on weight when I go for a visit, but not because the food is unhealthy.

Re:This need to happen...
For $30, you could an alarm that provides up to 113 dB - much louder than an iPad can go. It also has a bed shaker.
http://www.health.com/health/g...
Gen-2 iPads started at $629, and will still cost you $55+ on eBay.
But of course, since you're poor and have no prospects for getting a pay raise, you're very conscious of every penny spend. Right?! RIGHT?!
It's like everything that comes out of your mouth is utter bullshit, creimer.

Re:Moderate?
Per the article 14 units = approximately 6 pints of beer. Is that really moderate drinking?
In 1 sitting, yes.
That's basically having a drink or more a day. Not alcoholic territory or anything but that's pretty steady consumption.
Nothing wrong with a drink a day. It is generally considered better for you than not having a drink a day. http://www.health.com/health/a...
Moderate drinking to my mind would be maybe a pint or two a week at most.
Ah, you must be Muslim. You see for people who are not prohibitionists your "idea" is ludicrous.
I'm not being critical.
No you are being grossly ignorant.. unless someone has tried to educate you on this subject already, in which case I have some bad news.
If someone enjoys a beer or glass of wine with dinner that's fine as long as they do so responsibly but it isn't what I consider moderate consumption.
What you consider "moderate" doesn't matter as you have shown yourself to be absolutely clueless when it comes to drinking but thanks for weighing in!
Anyway, alcohol isn't good for you. News at 11...
Again it is. http://www.health.com/health/a... How have you missed YEARS of news about the benefits of a drink a day?
I'm pretty sure that anyone drinking a pint a day isn't overly concerned about the health effects, good or bad.
We get it, you hate those whose lips have touched demon rum.
I did not know the temperance league was so popular these days.
"News of Nerds".. yeah. Usually the nerds learn to have beers in college so "No one will invite me to parties" is not an excuse to this level of ignorance/other. -

I Doubt It
Seriously, do you think that the CBC isn't used to lawsuits? That any major news outlet isn't regularly threatened with lawsuits, both real and imaginary? That the CBC doesn't have fleets of lawyers on retainer for exactly this type of situation?
There are lots of US commentators with a major hate on for the Mainstream Media, and this fits their biases about MSM. Except, we all know who hates on the MSM and what their agenda is. Well your agenda doesn't fit the CBC performance profile. The CBC has a good reputation and decades of experience with this type of thing.
I don't know about the specific merits of this case, let's be clear about that. However if the CBC screwed up, there will be an apology and a settlement. I'm betting what we will actually find, though, is that Subway screwed up and they will be the ones going home with their tail between their legs. Not that I have an agenda against Subway, and not even considering that whole Gerad/child sex scandal. The CBC had their own personnel issues not long ago with Jian.
What I do know is this. There has been a huge issue with product dilutions/substitutions/mislabeling, and only in the last 5 years has the technology been widely deployed to detect it. Fish of one species is routinely marketed as fish of another species. And somehow, less valuable species always wind up marketed as more valuable species, never the other way around. Herbal products have routinely found to contain little or no content that the label says is there.
http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2011/20110204_seafoodmislabeling.html
http://www.fooddive.com/news/5-products-accused-of-mislabeling-issues/400694/
http://www.health.com/mind-body/investigation-reveals-many-supplements-sold-by-major-retailers-are-mislabeledThat is just with 2 minutes work with Google. The list is endless and I could go on but my point stands. Good companies are learning that sometimes they had a problem and didn't even know about it; as a result they are modifying their procedures and can do better by their customers. The bad ones, well they deny and try to sue their way out of trouble.

Aspartame and Mice
I hate these hit pieces about _all_ sugar free food when it is really about a specific calorie free sweetener in lab mice. I'd like to see other results using sugar alcohols, splenda, etc before saying they all do the same thing. I also would like to see it done in human trials. Not saying discount this test but it needs to be expanded and the frigging fake news (again!) headlines need to point out the specific substances involved and not label it everything. You suspect these are hit pieces because of this fact - but maybe it is just lazy journalism, who knows. Shills exist for every industry including both artificial and real sweeteners. My favorite for tea, Sweet'N Low caused cancer in rats' bladders but was shown not to in humans: http://www.health.com/health/g...

Re:I look forward to the biased reporting.
LOL why yes I do.
You are OK with the government making personal choices arbitrarily difficult.
Riddle me this, how do you feel about anal sex ?. Seeing as it is a known a public health hazard http://www.health.com/health/c...
I mean if you are ok with transfats being banned why not the major method of aids transmission ?
Yes, I'm OK with the government banning the sale of food prepared in people's asses. I am not OK with the government preventing people from preparing their own food in their ass. Understand the difference?

Re: Suzanne Humphries MD
The idea behind a vaccine is not to just protect the individual who gets it, but to protect the population at large. Those who choose not to get vaccinated are threatening other people's lives—the lives of those who may not even know they are being threatened.
Measles? http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/measles/faqs-dis-vac-risks.htm
We are starting to see just the beginnings of the results of this anti-vaccination movement:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2014/05/29/u-s-measles-outbreak-sets-record-for-post-elimination-era
http://news.health.com/2015/01/28/u-s-measles-outbreak-now-numbers-87-cases/
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/whooping-cough-outbreak-reaches-epidemic-level-in-california/
http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/24/health/ohio-mumps/index.html
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/24/nhl-mumps-vaccines_n_6375744.htmlI think the most sickening part of it all is that most anti-vax parents have gotten their immunisations when they were a child, yet refuse to let their own children get them. It's sad that it will take at least another 5-10+ years, and many more outbreaks, before the anti-vaxers will even start to get swayed. We may likely see pre-immunisation-era numbers of infections before then though, especially with the world being as small as it is today compared to yesteryear.

Re:So...
As an added bonus, they can start having babies when they're 45!
The effects on the babies (and mothers) be damned...
Seriously, this is a half-measure. If we really want to help women stay in the workforce, we ought to develop incubators. Facebook and Apple may have the monies to fund the necessary research and pilot programs.

Re:4-8 LITERS?!
... 16.5 liters, or a bit over 4 gallons.
I got you beat. Last year I made my 80th donation, and was admitted into the ten gallon club. the Red Cross gave me a FREE T-SHIRT to prove it. Anyway, China has a big problem recruiting blood donors. There is a strong cultural taboo about losing blood. Even in America, where hospitals try to match patients with donors by ethnicity, there is a big shortage of Asian blood. My wife is Chinese, and she objected to me donating blood, insisting it would shorten my life, until I showed her that there was plenty of evidence that donating blood is good for you and may lengthen your life.
Ummm.... I work in a hospital and order blood fairly regularly for my patient population. There is no way to specify the "ethnicity" of blood. Blood is "typed" for major antigen (A,B,O) and "crossed" for minor antigen or factors (Rh, Duffy, Lewis, Kell, MNS, P, Hh, XK, Etc). Now, different "ethnicities" have different distributions of antigens which may make it more likely that someone of the same ethnicity matches, but no-one transfuses "ethnic-specific" blood.
And for the record the typical human has about 80 cc/kg of blood (e.g. the "mythical" 70 kg (154 lb) adult has about 5600mL (5.9qts ~1.5 gal) of blood).

Re:Health Insurance in Germany
> It's not a political problem here because 70% or so of the people are covered by employer plans that more or less support the entire wasteful system. Again, the 30% are screwed.
Actually a significant proportion of those 70% are screwed too, they just don't know it yet... Having your healthcare tied to your employer is not a good thing ( http://www.health.com/health/money-article/0,,20223203_1,00.html ). Overall you have to deal with all sorts of crap (much not present in other systems), which is not good if you are actually very sick.
A lot of US people yell at the Europeans/Canadians and say "YOUR HEALTHCARE ISN'T FREE OR CHEAP, OTHER PEOPLE ARE PAYING FOR IT". The thing is, those other people are paying less on average than they would be if they were in the US system. Just look at the statistics - per capita spending on health care.
If you are very rich, the US healthcare is good for you, since you can really get the best and afford it.
If the majority who are not very rich want to stick with their current broken system where people are clogging up ER rooms just to get treatment (and thus indirectly increasing costs and decreasing quality of healthcare, and don't forget that taxpayers are still paying for those non-emergency ER patients), then perhaps they should get what they deserve. Representative democracy and all that...

Re:It's interesting...
Hmm, mangled that quote, it should be, "About 90% of Americans ages 816 play video games, and they spend about 13 hours a week doing soeven more if theyre boys."
Also, there seems to be two versions of the same article up, I pulled that quote from here:
http://news.health.com/2008/11/03/violent-video-games-linked-to-aggression-in-children-teens/
But thats actually the article linked to from this one:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/family/11/03/healthmag.violent.video.kids/index.html
(Click on Health from the CNN article to get to the other version.)
