Re:Obligatory: Just Imagine a Beowolf Cluster ...
That's nothing. How about a concerto with one of these:

Re:Maybe OT, but...
Lego robotics (by roboticists of any age), especially attempts at self-replication, should be well within the spirit of this thread, but I'll push the OT envelope with this link:
http://www.henrylim.org/Harpsichord.html
Yes, that's right, it's made of LEGO's (except for the wire strings) and plays. The mp3 of it sounds just dreadful, but it's like the waltzing bear, it's amazing that it waltzes at all... -
That's nothing, check out THIS Lego item

Yes, it's what the html filename says it is. Some of the pics appear to have jaggies from aliasing, but a closer look shows they are actual Lego blocks. -
Re:eh eh eh eh eh ...
The only thing keeping my coming here, are the obscure things. Like the Bar Monkey or the Beer Cooler, little obscure things people build and run Linux on and stuff. The lego inventions, etc. Those are the only things I'd have a harder time finding on my own.
Just for you, my friend...
2003-06-09 14:16:56 Build a harpsichord/stegosaurus out of LEGO (articles,toys) (rejected)
You can find out about it here. Personally, I thought the details about how he went about building a working LEGO harpsichord were fascinating. Ahhh, what do I know? -
Re:Not as cool as... a Playable Harpsichord!
Here's an artist who made a full-size playable Lego harpsichord (complete with an mp3 file).
-
Uh... Why'd y'all pick the Harpsichord?
When there was a life size Natalie Portman Lego Sculpture?
No mention of what color or shape blocks he used for the grits though. -
Re:How does it sound.?
There is an MP3 on the site. And it sounds like the worst harpsicord I've ever heard. But when an hippopotumus flies, you don't criticize the lack of grace.
-
Re:How does it sound.?
You mean like this? It's right there at the top... -
Re:How does it sound.?
I suppose you could always go follow the link and download the mp3.
-
Re:How does it sound.?
Um... he did.

Re:How does it sound.?
Oh, say
... like this?
(Unless, of course, you were wondering what sound the Star Destroyer makes.) -
DRM and Lego Harpsichord
Anyone think there's a market for DRM'ed Lego Harpsichord music?

LegosAs a kid, I couldn't even build the damn lego item on the box the legos came in! Most of the Lego creations I made were used to test fireworks' strengths.
But, for those interested, here are some other cool Lego sites:
Stegosaurus
Lego Town
Lego City
Beethoven
Queen Amidala
Audrey Hepburn Wall
Big Clock
Alice in Wonderland -

Other lego sculpture sites
I love Andrew Lipson's Math site, thought it was on slashdot for a while. If you like to see other such sites check out Eric Harshbarge's Lego page (cool stuff like wedding cakes and skyscrapers), Henry Lim's totally awsome lego sculptures, he's even got Natalie Portman (Not naked, and next to the petrified beethovan). BTW, Eric's got a very interesting page on on San Mononoke (more on those).
