Re:Christmas Vacation
My poor father has it pretty bad. He is an architect and puts in around 80 a week (not as an option) and for the second (or is it the third?) year running got a $100 gift car. Not any gift card, mind you, but a gift card to the luxurious Ralph's supermarket.
It is more of an insult than a "thank you for your team effort". A simple handshake would be better.

Why I am still on 2K
I tend to reinstall my OS every 6-9 months. Swapping hardware, testing drivers, the occasional software that just won't uninstall all adds up and makes all versions of windows glitchy and crufty. The Solution? Reinstall the OS.
I refuse to pick up the phone and explain to MS why I should be allowed to reinstall XP. 2k no suck problems.
My reason for sticking with 2K until I am forced to move? General F'ing Principal.

What about Fox?
If I understand right, Fox bought Myspace and YouTube, or Myspace bought YouTube and Fox bought Myspace or some damn thing. Point is, what is Fox going to do with its collection of media. Follow the lead of Warner I hope. And why did Warner deal with YouTube instead of rolling out it's own service (lots of eyeballs good for media companies) or partnering with Google's video service or buy something like Blip.tv.
[tinfoil hat]I think something might be going on here[/tinfoil hat]
Yeah, I know it's Warner music and Fox is mostly non music, but still they have gots ons of stuff rotting away in vaults somewhere, you would think earning something from it would be easier than trying to sue/arrest/pester/etc. people for distributing stuff no longer on the air.

Re:Outsourcing Botnets.
That doesn't sound like that is all that much to brag about. Since I don't think he will be getting many paychecks from said spyware company DollarRevenuefor likely TOS violation and subsequent slashdotting. Am I missing something here?

*sigh*
politicians writing laws on technology are about as helpful as looking for a gas leak with a candle.
What exactly is this law supposed to do. You can't legislate away ignorance or apathy, already we have "warning: contents may be hot after heating" or a cup of steaming coffee with "Warning: Hot beverage may be hot" and the hair dryer with the warning "Do not use in shower". May I suggest the following on the next election ballot... "Warning: Political canidates may be morons if elected"
I'm telling you the days of the fireproof match are comming fast.

I am building a website on website traffic tips n tricks and stumbled upon this...

I am 90% sure that this is what they are doing or some variation thereof. Inexpensive service that should work well.

Subliminal Advertising[tinfoil hat]
I'll take a stab here and say that it will contain a subliminal message...- to buy other "Guniune Microsoft" products
- piracy is theft
- open source is communist
- windows save you time
- windows saves you money
- windows is faster/better/cheaper than linux
- Macintosh will never catch on
After a while they will begin leasing out the SubLim ad slot to Microsoft Prefered Partners via the windows update function every tuesday.

Re:great
The article is very misleading. This is for the Orion CEV vehicle. This is NOT a lander. This is not for the moon. This is not for Mars. This is a orbital taxi. 4-6 crew members to orbit. ISS transfer.
I am thankful that it looks like NASA is serious, and is reciving funding that it needs and has an aggressive schedule to meet the EOL deadline for the shullte program.

Re:Much ado about nothing?
Good network admin ins only a small part on the problem. From what I have seen (mind you this is the LA area) the whole system is broken.
1. When you have damn near everything blocked by the firewall/router like Wikipedia the usefulness goes way down. I swear I think they are running a whitelist not a blacklist.
2. I donated a few old machines to a school here and installed them. Dropped a note to the admin to add their MAC's to the list and after a few weeks my friend (teacher there) started calling and memoing as well. After the school year ended and the next semester started and ended and still nothing. Not so much as a phone call from to admin at the district, much less Network access.
3. The teachers have no clue how to use them effectively. They seem to use them as a reward for doing something. "Get a passing grade on your next test and you can play with the computer" type of thinking
4. My old Jr. High spent money on removing all the lockers in the place to replace them with trophy cases. One might ask where do students put their books?.... Surprise? They got rid of books years ago. Yet they blew tons of money on a fancy new computer lab that sits mostly empty and unused and/or underused, blew money on removing lockers, blew money on installing a trophy case, and have not spent a dime on books in 5 years.
5. The students are aware of this B*llsh1t, are forced to go and have no respect (plenty of contempt) for the school (understandable) and treat the equipment like everything else
What can we expect from the people running our schools? Certainly not reason. And what is it we expect laptops to do at the schools under these conditions?
Curse them all -
Re:Overblown Drama
Yep, had an Abit mobo that started going flakey, I finally got around to replacing the board and upon examination found ALL the onboard caps were swolen, bloated and had vented a good amount of electrolite all over. Even "brand name" products are not above using shady parts.

Frankly, with the type of people that I see at my local Radio Shack (LA Area) I am surprised that they could figure out how to check their email. These folks are on par with Fry's employees.

Re:SSH tunnel + VNC + OO.org
I was just about to post the same damn thing. The responsivness is ehhh so-so but it works. Anyone know if the OOo folks are interested in doing a, ummm, HTTP:// version of OOo. OpenWebOffice or something of the like. That could be something nice and usable, standards compliant, open, familiar online and off.
Just a thought...

Damn it. I mis-read the title as "Neuroscientists Reasearch Halts Extremeists" I was thinking they found the fundimentalist nut-job gene sequence and could correct it and remove it from the gene pool.

As for the reactor I think I am missing something... I thought we were worried about Uranium enrichment, why the fuss about he reactor. Pluonium? Does having boh uranium and Plutonium make them more dangerous? (honest question not flambait). Or is it more along the lines of a reactor being able to make pluonium faster than the (what I have heard) is the slow process of Uranuim enrichment. Any one knowledgable in he subject?

Re:Last of its kind? I hope so...
I am rather thankful about all the dropped "features" as they tend not to be so good until v3.0 and tend to be less than standard implementations (Internet Explorer) of technology that simply displaces 3rd party functional products.
As for being late I am hoping that they are taking he time to debug them more than previous products that were shipped to schedule with major problems. Anyhow the longer they take the longer my win2000 will remain viable.
Drop a curse on Microsoft.
