Re:Checked the date on the article...

This stuff is the best I've tried. I do fishing up in Northern Quebec and it's the only thing I've found to keep black flies manageable.

Re:Amazing
There'll be people who would pay $50,000 on top of the car itself for a true self-driving car.
Probably.
But most likely not if it looks like this: https://cosmos-magazine.imgix.... (Article is here: https://cosmosmagazine.com/tec...)
That car actually is already self driving without Ãoebers/Googles or Teslas "tech". Toyota has self driving cars since more than 15 years. And then again: that would perhaps be the US market only. In Europe school kids use the bus to school, or walk, or they use the bicycle. It is a rare occasion that parents ride their kids to school or pick them up there.
Keep in mind we are talking about cars that would cost some 40,000 EURO, no one is buying such a thing for 95,000 EURO so he can safe pick up time from school.
What we are waiting for are cars with multiple lidar systems, that are spread over the corners and long edges of the car.

Re:If you don't exit you're a Neo-Nazi.
You're 35. You don't know what a Nazi march looks like.
I can help with that.

Re:Hey GM, how about that EV1?
Nissan are in danger of missing the boat too. The Leaf is a great car and they have done a lot to get people driving EVs, especially in Europe. The problem is that circumstances have kind of screwed them - Tesla's Model 3 is looking unbeatable right now, so far ahead of anything anyone else can offer it's stunning. That big screen, full self driving if not from day one fairly early in its life, and best of all software updates in an age when most manufacturers can't keep the sat nav up to date.
I honestly disagree and here's the main reason why :
https://fsmedia.imgix.net/49/6...
Elon Musk stated that it was temporary, but for now this is what the design look like. I personally hate that "stripped down" inside, there's literally nothing except that "computer screen"
On the other end, ever heard of the Chevrolet Bolt? (Not the Volt)
It's specs and price are similar to the Tesla Model 3. And here's what the inside of the Bolt look like :

So yeah, I disagree about the Tesla Model 3 being "unbeatable".

Re:I'll wait for a third party review...
such roofs need to be able to sustain pre-tornado weather (including hail) at least a few times a year. (to be reliable)
https://fsmedia.imgix.net/f2/c...
. Ohh how about a minor heating element that can be turned on in the winter to help de-ice/snow roofs.
Solar glass tiles can also incorporate heating elements, like rear defroster on a car, to clear roof of snow and keep generating energy.

You wouldn't print a car, would you?

Re:Of course...
Well, I also wondered what Amazon's Cloud was doing in the drone example (see this figure from the cited article). It turns out it does the voice recognition (apparently with Amazon's "Alexa" service).
BTW, the drone article (didn't read the babyphone one) gives a step-by-step instruction how to setup the different programs. Could be useful also to others wanting to use speech recognition for whatever. Although, given the example phrases in the article such as "Alexa talk to Drone”, “Command Launch”, “Go forward 10 feet” (especially the last one) I wonder whether Alexa can do grammar or whether one has to generate a new command for each different amount of feet to move.

Thanks, for a moment I was worried Google would not know I accessed the URL.

Re:What does that mean?
Posting as AC because Slashdot isn't giving me another option.
After poking around without being able to watch the video, here's what I've found out:
- 1Ghz and with 512MB of DDR3 RAM
- runs mainline Linux
It plugs into their Pocket CHIP mobile device, which has:
- 3,000 mAH battery
- 4.3" 470px x 272px screen w/ resistive touch
- Full Super-Clicky QWERTY keyboard
- Rugged Injection Molded Shell
- Fully open source
- GPIO breakouts
- C.H.I.P. is removable via hatch
And here's a pic.
