who could forget the lovely and talented Ali Davis, author of True Porn Clerk Stories? I'm sorry, that's the best blog i've ever read, bar none.

I can't believe neither service rents porn movies. I think it would boost service considerably. Just keep it on the down-low. Hide it under "romance".

I worked in a porn-only video store for six months in college, and I can tell you that the typical cash-cow customer is a disgusting fucking savage. True Porn Clerk Stories is fucking dead-on about some of the archetypes you see. Most people aren't so bad, but the ones that keep the business going can be truly sickening.

Mind you, I think porn is great -- but the kind of crap a business would have to put up with to really operate such a service is so awful as to be relegated to specialty companies.

Especially after you read some of famous porn clerk stories.

A highlight for those who haven't had the pleasure:

Sometimes people get animalistic about the tapes. For the real addicts (I'm convinced that porn is like alcohol: some people can stop at just one every now and then, some people just binge on weekends, and some people get genuinely, horribly addicted) the reptilian brain kicks in. They hit the magic portion of the tape and they're done. They pop out the tape and slam in another one, and the next day the stack comes back, unrewound and covered in goo.

I get sort of conflicted about throwing kids and teenagers out of the porn section. I really don't want them down there, not because I think sex is dirty or bad, but because I don't want them to think that that's what sex is about. I always want to debrief them. "Hey, guys, it's cool that you're curious, but this isn't the way to find out. Porn is fine, but it's not real sex. Real sex is great, and even good girls love it, but it has to be a two-way street..." But I always just end up with "Sorry, guys - come back when you're 21." Perhaps I should write a children's book. Porn Is Healthy and Fine, but Only as a Temporary Physical Release.

It's true. Most of it is just incompetent, but some of it is actively... repulsive. Well, to me at least. The "Bangbus" stuff that was so, so popular on the campus network just left me kinda icked out. Where's the fun in degrading someone like that?

Now, compare that with Buttman: The Fashionistas, in which everyone's having a grand old time beating the heck out of each other. Because the participants wear wackier clothing and hit each other, it's supposedly more perverse... but I find it a lot more wholesome than "Bangbus" or anything in a similar mold.

'Course, given that I get all my porn from the internet, or make it myself, I probably don't have a representative sample.

Perhaps I'm missing something. Is there something terribly alluring about bullying women? It's like being in high school again.

I'd like to hear uplifting and affirming stories about good porn, if anyone has 'em.

That's one reason why I said they ought to stick with the tasteful stuff only. Those "insatiable" porn users are almost like addicts, and they always need something more insane, more hardcore, more bizarre. They don't like tasteful.

Of course, after reading the porn store clerk blog, I have to wonder if renting porn is such a good idea after all (you never know where it's been or what's been on it). But how the hell else do you find out what titles are actually worth something? I figure even with the tasteful stuff, only about 5-10% of it is any good. I ain't gonna buy something if there's an overwhelming chance it won't get me (and my wife) off!

This is the weblog of a girl who clerks at an adult video store. The subject is rather interesting and its well written. It's probably, unfortunately, the pinacle of weblogs at least for me. The adult video store weblog was an intersting read, the one on salon made me wish I was reading an adult video store weblog :)

Some of us might remember The Spot A now defunct weblog that tried to make a go of commercializing this form of entertainment (they failed, they even manage to fail at the pinacle of the dot com craze). And they managed to fail with PICTURES!

I guess the moral of the story is, if you're going to do a weblog, make it something interesting like a clerk at an adult video store or maybe a massage parlor or something where you have a lot of quirky personalities to talk about. :-)
