Today that money and those weapons have helped build up the Taliban, Harrison said. The Taliban are not just recruits from 'madrassas' (Muslim theological schools) but are on the payroll of the ISI. The Taliban are now "making a living out of terrorism."

Of course there is. The presumption of innocence in English and Scots law comes from common law. The concept itself has been part of British society for thousands of years - Alexander Volokh says that it has been present since Greece and Sparta and Rome, all the way back to the first (Judaic?) legal systems.

Common law is the basis of the British legal system. Your logic is like claiming that "there is no law against murder in Britain" and then going on to claim that this means murder is legal. English Law - "there is no statute making murder illegal. It is a common law crime - so although there is no written Act of Parliament making murder illegal, it is illegal by virtue of the constitutional authority of the courts and their previous decisions."

It after that went on and voted into the statute book several hundred criminal offences which explicitly postulate that you are guilty until proven innocent. The RIPA act, The H&S act, you name them. Half of Blair's legislation (Blair and Co raised the number of criminal offences on the statutes by more than 100% in 10 years) is based around "guilty until proven innocent".

Also, it takes a considerable amount of scientific illiteracy to look at new experimental findings and declare that scientists are "changing their story." Truly, 9/11 truthers are the creationists of the 21st century.

Rather than, say, setting fire to a real 40-story skyscraper? Wow, those scientists and engineers sure are underachievers.

NIST claims that the collapse of Building 7 is "The first known instance of fire causing the total collapse of a tall building".

Chapter 1: WTC 7 Visual Evidence, Damage Estimates, and Timeline Analysis (William Pitts) is a thorough analysis of window fires by video and picture evidence, which concludes that all major fires before floors 7 and 13 died out prior to collapse.

The report states, "At 4:38 p.m. all of the windows between 13-44A and 13-47C were open, and the fires responsible for opening the windows had died down to the point where they could no longer be observed."

"Just prior to the collapse of the building at 5:20:52 p.m. a jet of flames was pushed from windows in the same area. The event that caused this unusual behavior has not been identified."

The report describes the nature of fires from floors 7-13 and also states, "With the exception of the fires on the 19th, 22nd, 29th, and 30th floors discussed at the start of this section, there is essentially no direct visual evidence of fires on other floors of WTC 7."

Don't forget Appendix C of FEMA's World Trade Center Building Performance Study, which stated:

Evidence of a severe high temperature corrosion attack on the steel, including oxidation and sulfidation with subsequent intergranular melting, was readily visible in the near-surface microstructure. A liquid eutectic mixture containing primarily iron, oxygen, and sulfur formed during this hot corrosion attack on the steel... The severe corrosion and subsequent erosion of Samples 1 and 2 are a very unusual event. No clear explanation for the source of the sulfur has been identified.

I think I'd have to agree with you there. I can certainly understand why some people might be dissatisfied with the situation.

Seriously, the US used to have a moral high ground on these sort of issues, but those days are gone. It's all "pot, kettle, black." now.

Some famous guy once said "Judge not, lest ye be judged" and "You see the mote in your brother's eye, but you do not see the beam in your own eye. When you cast the beam out of your own eye, then you will see clearly to cast the mote from your brother's eye." and a few other often ignored things. Maybe we can learn a thing or two from this guy? Like clean our own house before we try to clean everyone elses? I don't hate the US. I just want it to be better than it is. Recognition is the first step to redemption (followed closely by positive action).

In free countries, if the police were to tackle, pin, and then shoot a suspect in the back of the head seven times execution style, those police would go to trial and be put away for murder. Did any of those police go to trial for murder? Of course not, the police state ruled there was insufficient evidence for a murder trial. The train driver was there with a gun shoved in his face, so I guess eye witness testimony is insufficient in the UK.

The government of the USA has already shown a proclivity towards watching its citizens. To be fair, this phenomenon isn't limited to the USA, but Bush has taken it to new levels.

We now know that the government secretly had printer manufacturers embed hidden ID codes on printer's output, thereby removing any possibility of anonymous document creation.

I wouldn't be surprised if some enterprising Bush-ite didn't see the possibility here of having *every* keyboard manufactured with some form of this technology embedded. Imagine if the government could tell what you were typing just by listening to your traffic.

Clyde Lewis is currently without a talk show on the radio, but he still gives local talks and for the past couple weeks he has been talking about an Avian Flu Pandemic this winter, and the Flu Pandemic of 1918. (I posted a journal entry yesterday, without explanation, just as a history lession. I might follow up with an explanation soon for the Journal circuit.)

OK, he is a conspiracy nut, but dispite the entertainment value, he also does provide a lot of interesting insights.

Other stuff that is going on right now is a steady increase in the cost of natural gas and heating oil, and post-Katrina, people are more accepting of Martial Law, or at least we are being told we would now accept it.

I need to research some more stuff, like the claim that only 6% of FEMA's budget is spent on Emergency Managment, but here is Clyde Lewis' new article on Katrina. And some might also dismiss Alex Jones as a conspiracy nut, but here is what he had to say about Avian Flu and Martial Law.

Take it with a grain of salt but this could prove to be useful information.
