Re:American priorities

https://ipredator.se/page/payment#payment_pricingMaybe?
And we've got our own intelligence gathering service (http://www.fra.se/)
May be better than some others at least.
Best would of course be if it wasn't necessary and the governments just let us be.

Re:Encryption:
True.
As for
Customers will act rationally, and providers will miss out on a great opportunity.
no, they likely won't. Just as with encryption. People are to ignorant and lazy.
As for what to use instead there's some companies which have hold their noses high and don't bend over easily.
http://www.bahnhof.se/ for instance.
The stuff Pirate bay / Piratpartiet / Wikileaks / same or similar people is running/supporting like https://ipredator.se/ likely can be trust as far as the highest management goes at least. Not much to do against things like raids though. Though I could THINK of a scenario where say Bahnhof had disks with user data encrypted and log files removed and flat out resisted to help (what if they was judged to? I don't know.)
Anyway for me personally that's one great reason to use them as my ISP / give my money to them rather than someone else (I currently don't use them but I've got full opportunity to and likely should switch. I user Bredbandsbolaget now but since the last few months they have resisted giving me a discount and as such I don't really have no reason to stay with them.)

Re:looks like copy paste fail

See the claim:
Copyright claim #4:
Game of Thrones (Original TV Show)
Original work URL(s):
http://www.hbo.com/game-of-thrones/index.htmlAllegedly infringing URLs:
0. https://tpb.ipredator.se/torrent/8493409/Game_of_Thrones_S03E08_480p_HDTV_x264_-VYTO%5BP2PDL%5D
snip
407. http://www.torrentportal.com/details/6093721/VLC-Media-Player-2.0.7-Final-(32-64-bit)-Official.htmlThey are alleging that VLC is violating their copyright on Game of Thrones. They own the copyright on Game of Thrones so they are in the clear. The fact that their allegation is completely off base doesn't matter.
This is actually a necessary and very unfortunate consequence of our copyright law... Because there aren't clear boundaries for what constitutes fair use and an original work, there is no ability to assert with any certainty that a given work is not derivative. Suppose that maybe that an error message in VLC contains a couple words from the show: it's legitimate (albeit in bad faith) to claim that VLC is now violating your copyright. So unfortunately without a revision to copyright law the only way to hold these people accountable for their 'mistakes' would require them to sue and have the court declare the work non-infringing. Maybe that would be better than the current, but it would undermine the whole point of takedown requests in the first place.

Re:Encrypted proxy?
I'm not from the US, but if you really wanted to pirate stuff, isn't just renting a proxy or doing ssh -D somewhere else outside the country enough?
Or is it one of those measures trying to prevent John Doe from using bittorrent? (and expecting he won't learn how to use a proxy)
it's to catch the people who aren't smart enough to protect themselves when copywronging.
I myself am using a torrent proxy, BTguard, but it's too slow, thinking of switching to a VPN.
I got me a cloaking device for when I am out on the interweb seas, raping, pillaging and copywronging. Arrr!
I had BTguard proxy but let my service expire. Too slow and it had problems with UDP trackers. I've been evaluating Ipredator, which is actually a branch of the Pirate Bay. Speeds are much higher than BTguard. I nearly maxed out my 20mbit connection on a well-seeded torrent (a legal one of course). They might not be the best service out there, but they are good enough for me to stop looking around. Trial accounts are available. Only downside is that when you have a computer on their VPN, everything goes through Sweden and thus the latency is not great. Only way around it is to play with the routing table or have separate computers (which I might have to start doing).

IPreadator
IPreadator
https://www.ipredator.se/?lang=en
Fixed, inexpensive costs and unlimited bandwidth. About as anonymous as you'll get for something you have to pay real money for.The endpoints are somewhere in northern Europe, though exactly where will vary from time to time.
Has a few problems that are just about fixed. Firstly, it supports only PPTP, which is known to be insecure ( http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2012/08/breaking_micros.html ). That also makes using anything other than Windows a pain. But it's supposed to be fixed this month ( https://www.ipredator.se/page/faq#gen_openvpn_l2tp ). Multiplexing tunnels is also made difficult due to PPTP, but again, L2TP should fix that.
Secondly, No IPv6 or static IPv4 addresses yet. IPv6 is (and has been for a long time) coming apparently. Static IPv4 addresses is not expected to happen, though; but for most uses, that'd be kind of defeating the point of an anonymous VPN, no?
On the whole, it's tricky to use and not without problems, but it's probably good enough for any realistic use, and it's cheap (I've seen email account that cost more!).
Disclaimer: satisfied (Australian) customer.

Re:VPNs
Just bought a years worth, at only £3.63 per month even a UK unemployed person could afford that.
Screw the governments monitoring, we didn't elect them to act like East Germany's Stasi.

Re:without the knowledge of the site visitor
Of course, that is easily taken care of by using VPN through one of the many resources out there - iPredator is one that comes to mind
https://www.ipredator.se/And if you simply want to block out ads, that is easy to do as well, with AdBlocking extensions that is available for all the major browsers (yes, I have even used some for IE).
I am actually surprised at how many people are surprised at this. ISPs will redirect mistyped domains to their own search engines (if some squatter hasn't already bought the mistyped domain), they will often redirect search engines (my ISP has a bad habbit of this, but there is an option to switch back to your default search engine - its just annoying), and, shoot, NetZero and Juno practically back in the 90s came up with the whole idea that you get cheap internet by them pushing ads on you. As for the self-signed certs, yeah, you see that too, although not as often as other tricks.
So, yeah, if you are really concerned about security, use VPN through a trusted host. And certainly never trust that a website, even if it starts with https, is secure on an open hotspot.

Re:Bullshit.
I doubt there'll ever be an ISP that does that, but there are always VPNs. The creators of The Pirate Bay have one - I've been thinking about signing up for it for a long time, but haven't yet cause I haven't had time to pirate much lately... anyways: wiki and their website.

Re:Tor
Nevermind also that half of the TOR network end nodes are monitored and sniff your traffic and can modify your browsing session in various ways. Just imagine the fun when you happen to use an end node that serves you a drive-by download exploit instead of the page you requested.
Problem solved. Also a heck of a lot faster. You just have to pay for it, which I think is a four-letter word on Slashdot
-
Re:Solution
I guess by use of VPNs, as it works now (see http://btguard.com/, https://www.ipredator.se/ etc). So essentially it won't get sold, but rented (it might get rented for indefinite amount of time for fixed one-time price, though - depending on the bussiness model chosen). Of course, your latency will go up compared to normal IPv4, but hey...
Also, you CAN transfer an IP range, and not just give it up.
See for example https://www.arin.net/resources/request/transfers.html, but other RIRs have similar policies. You just agree with potential customer that you'll transfer part of your IPs to them after they make a payment to you. So while you're not technically selling them IPs, practically you are (you're transfering them your IPs only after they give you their money). But it would be more "gray" than "black" market... -
Re:Circumvention via methods such as TOR
Laws like this are going to push people over to TOR, or Freenet or whatever other new piece of software that guarantees anonymity. The internet pandoras box has been opened for the recording industry. All the king's horses and all the king's men won't fix this.
IPredator works better than I expected. I thought it would be slow as molasses running uphill in winter, but not only is the pipe as fast as my own connection, but guess what you find right at the exit point: plenty of other sharers, making it all appear like you had a direct line to your neighbors. Speed is always maxed out when I us it (purely for testing of course).
Posting Anon because I fall under that stupid law mentioned above. Cannot wait for the SACEM (French RIAA) and similar to croak and die in their own vomit. -
Ipredator
Cool, reminds me of Ipredator. (Pirate Bay To Offer VPN For $7 a Month, Mar 27, 2009)

Re:yes...
What's interesting is the requirements by Swedish law for the authorities to prove that they have a case against the user, but the case has to involve a prison sentence.
from https://www.ipredator.se/faq/legal/
If Swedish authorities can prove beyond reasonable doubt that they have a case for demanding subscription information from Ipredator (they have to be of the opinion that if convicted the user will be imprisoned – fined not enough). .
Ipredator then have to hand over the subscription information entered by you (but that’s all). Ipredator do not store any subscribtion information about you except what you entered yourself when signing up for the Ipredator Safe Surf service.
For Swedish authorities to force Ipredator to hand over “traffic data” including your Ipredator IP at a specific point in time, they will have to prove a case with the minimum sentence of two years imprisonment.
Regarding inquires from other parties than Swedish authorities Ipredator will never hand over any kind of information.

Re:yes...
Duh: https://www.ipredator.se/ It is the VPN run by thepiratebay.

Re:Fear
Even cheaper: $19 for three months, by the IPREDator: https://www.ipredator.se/

Re:Though I should have done this a while ago...
Here. You're welcome.
-
Re:Bah....Bah
You could've instead used an anonymous VPN, like http://www.ipredator.se/
-
Re:Almost like an ad at first...
for as little as $13/mo
My eyes somehow jumped to that part first. At first, looks kinda like an ad, doesn't it?
Monitor Pirate Bay torrents TODAY, for only $13/month!
Unfortunately for them, the Pirate Bay's got a better ad. IPREDator for 5 Euros a month.

Protect yourself
Use offshore VPN for everything. Because what you're doing today may be frowned upon tomorrow. Or maybe you like reading extremist blogs for the lolz and you apply for a job that needs an FBI background check. Wow, this guy sure likes militias.

Replace spam with copyright infringements
Now, if RIAA were to say that the ISPs used by ipredator should not be allowed to access the internet backbone, you would probably immediatelly see the problems in that statement.
-
Re:Guess what!
Hey look, my beta access to https://www.ipredator.se/ just arrived, what perfect timing! Sad that I need such a service -just- to know my internet is -generally- safe...

Re:Does not store any personal details about clien
If you read the legal terms ( https://www.ipredator.se/faq/legal/ ), you will notice the mention below: "For Swedish authorities to force Ipredator to hand over âoetraffic dataâ including your Ipredator IP at a specific point in time, they will have to prove a case with the minimum sentence of two years imprisonment". It is clearly implied that logs are kept, as it states the conditions for handing them over.. Now, considering this text is a mere copy/paste of the Relakks ones (https://www.relakks.com/faq/legal/ ), it is hard to tell if they they left them as is voluntarily, or if they just forgot to remove them when cloning the Relakks site
.-) -
Re:Free?
It's 5 euros per month: http://www.ipredator.se/

Re:I asked this on the Bahnhof story...
No, they are just ordinary ISP:s and offer no such service as far as I know, but there are of course others who does like http://ipredator.se/
-
Re:They Aren't Seeing Repeat Offenders
I'm not sure about using IP tables, but connecting to encrypted peers only would prevent from your ISP snooping. I'm not sure it would be of much help if the RIAA is seeding them, because they would get to know your IP address. A better "solution" would be to use a VPN service like http://ipredator.se/ where they say that they don't keep any logs.
