Re:If the Grand Ayatollah's against it....
Whatever, Iron Maiden says it's 666. That's good enough for me.

I'm not a number, I'm a free man!

Re:Sixth post
For a quick minute of the song here from the Iron Maiden website (so I guess it's legit!) from The Number of the Beast album
They used a sample from the beginning of the prisoner on the song, but the clip isn't of that. -

Re:security through obscurity. great move, kasparo
To believe otherwise is hubris-- and we all know what happened to Icarus.
Yeah! He became the subject of a Nintendo game and a kick ass Iron Maiden song. Go hubris! -
It's not underground...
I mean, seriously, once it hits the NYT magazine, it's not so much an underground item. I'm sure the article is interesting but it's the nature of underground "sports" that you can never really know exactly who and what is going on.
One of my favorite phrases is, "There are no Famous Hackers" meaning simply, that the famous "super-genuius-crackers" in the news who get caught aren't really all that smart are they ?
(I read it anyway, surprised to hear that one of my favorite bands is still popular ;) -
I'm Glad...
I'm glad this is the case. Anything that may slightly deter the record companies from more copy protection, and making them lose money for charging ridculous prices for tunes is good too. I hope the song writers do get double pay, some of them out there definitely deserve it!

Catholic Church to Sue SunnComm...(Just wanted to reiterate in a more current thread)
In commenting on SunnComm's statement :The goal of MediaMax was not to invent the "holy grail" (since one does not exist).
...They seem to born out of some Messiah complex hell-bent on saving the world from any technological attempt to protect artists and their property.
The Pope declared:No matter what their credentials or rationale, it is wrong to use one's knowledge and the cover of Corporate America to facilitate disinformation regarding the existence, or not, of such a Holy artifact. Also, to suggest that Jesus would be "saving the world from any technological attempt to protect artists" is a misrepresentation. When I asked, What Would Jesus Do , it was His position that He is not against any particular technology, however the application of technology such as DRM to prevent consumers from exercising their rights may be, in fact, an Evil that Jesus would be prepared to deal with during the coming Apocalypse.

Re:Well it worked elsewhere
You might have thought Iron Maiden was washed up long ago, but that's quite contrary to the truth. I've gotten my filthy hands on their new Dance of Death release a bit early, and I can say that these guys are firing on all cylinders.
How does Dance of Death compare to their Brave New World album? I really liked that one, and I was so pleased when Bruce came back to the band. (For those not aware, Bruce Dickinson was Iron Maiden's original singer; he left for a new solo albums, and eventually came back to the band.)
I also see that you can view the Wildest Dreams video on Iron Maiden's site (from Dance of Death).

Breaking Free From the RIAA?
An interesting thing happened on 30 Aug, 2003 at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Marysville, California. A band called Ironmaiden's lead vocalist, Bruce Dickenson had some shrewd words of wisdom that he felt the music industry basically isn't friendly to music, and the big bully's in the front can Bring him their Maiden CD's he'd BUY them back, and then told the Bully's never to come to another concert ever again. Then he said that they've got a new album coming out. (something something something Death Something - I forgot the name now) And that if you want to record this song and upload it or download it or send it to all your friends to just start recording right now and go for it.
He was Angry with the idiot's in the Concert, and Angry with the music industry, and stressed quite a bit about freedom and how it's all in OUR hands to get it. -

Re:Hmmm
This is the message I sent to www.metallica.com. I resume nicely of what I think of that band now
: ::Begin
First of all, to make fan pay to access your is in my opinion very low. Metallica already got the money, don't tell me they can't afford metallica.com ! I just think of other metal bands such as Emperor, Dimmu Borgir and even Iron Maiden don't make their fans pay for a couple of pictures. They have far less money than Metallica (especially Emperor and Dimmu Borgir), what does that tell you ? They know the value of such strategy, it sells. So please, tell the truth to the fans and say you charge them 'cause you're greedy.Second of all, that needless lawsuit. In case you wonder how black - death metal bands are able to survive in this silicon-saturated and ganster-wannabes industry, it's because of MP3s. Being VERY unmainstream, these bands rely heavily on MP3 trading to get their art to the fans. The very fact that this kind of music isn't mainstream cause the prices of black metal album to be insanely high, especialy here in north-america since we can only get them by imports.
Something funny about real fans, they ALWAYS buy their albums, but often they do so after listening it on badly recorded tapes. Today, the quality of MP3 is better, this is very true, but it lacks the real thing, the lyrics, the photos, even the f'cking thank you list. It's part of the whole, it's the thing that fans of metal, ususaly not very rich by definition has bleed to buy since the beginning of metal. Metallica probably wouldn't be what it is today if it wasn't for the tape trading of the 80's. In the 90's, many bands rely on this technology to reach new fan base.
Fans will always buy original recordings but they won't do so blindly. It's not easy for someone with 20 buck to spare a week to buy a 19.99 $ CD, and that's when the CD IS 19.99$. As I said, it is not rare for me to pay between 30 and 40$ (CAN but still...) to buy a f'king CD, but I do it anyway, because the band's worth it and the album excite my senses. I suggest you go read a good piece about the necessity of MP3 in certain circle at http://www.burzum.com/flash/news2.htm#moonfog
In final words, you guys should have remained true to your original sayings back in the 80's, (the not selling-out thing), millions of kids were inspired by that and are now feeling let down. It wouldn't be so bad if Metallica changed its name. But hey, if Metallica wants to be mainstream a la Britney Spears and wear the latest Clairol eyeliner, who am I to argue ?
I'm just the guy who bought their f'cking albums ::End
