Re: Health care advice from movie actors?
So the science is settled. But is it? Why is there still research on vaccines, if the science is settled. There are no new illesnesses?
Yup, the science is pretty much settled. Thimerosol has been completely removed from vaccines as a result of anti-vaxxers outrage. The difference?
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafe...
Okay, so they move the goalposts and call it the vaccines themselves. Now its on shaky grounds, as there is less commonality between different vaccines.
Here's your science teacher's data:
http://www.jennymccarthybodyco...
We live i strange times, when people get their science education from Politicians and women who's main talent is taking off their clothing, and documented frauds with a plan to extract money via the sympathy gene.
But those darned scientists? Never! That's crazy talk!!

Do you have a link to the murdering bitch's retraction?
Here's a recent link where she denies changing her position in any way. I'm afraid she's still a murdering bitch.

Re:The time-honored tradition of...
As someone diagnosed with Aspergers/ASD, I would rather be rid of this disorder. It has not been kind to my life, and the disadvantages far outweigh any advantages. No soft skills means your other skills are much more difficult to use and made much less useful since you can't interact with others.
Obviously, vaccines don't cause autism, but I would like a cure to see what it's like to not have a meltdown every other social interaction. It is not a good way to live. -
Re:But vaccinations give you autism
-
Re:cases are in people who refused vaccination ...
I don't think these people are doubting that vaccines work. Rather they are more afraid of their kids having autism than measles. And they don't understand that vaccines don't cause autism.
I think many have this false belief due to (at least) one now widely discredited study published proposing this link - this/these ideas are still pushed by some people and celebrities, like Jenny McCarthy.
From Anti-Vaccine Body Count:
The United States Anti-Vaccination Movement is composed of a variety of individuals ranging from former doctors who should know better, to semi-celebrities who have no medical training, to anti-government conspiracy theorists who distrust anything that the government says.
- Number of Preventable Illnesses: 120,487
- Number of Preventable Deaths: 1,283
- Number of Autism Diagnoses Scientifically Linked to Vaccinations: 0
Unfortunately, some people would rather believe that some *thing* - the vaccination - caused their child to "get" Autism rather than living with the understanding that it was genetic - and came from them.

Re:Jenny McCarthy
Adding up. And Barbara Walters, that ignorant fool, just hired her.
Once again, Barbara, this isn't a "controversial" opinion, it is a murderous one. People die because of this.

Repenting will be difficult
http://www.jennymccarthybodycount.com/Jenny_McCarthy_Body_Count/Home.html
In these cases, I think the person has a tendency to cling to their beliefs. Because changing the beliefs entails coming to terms with what they did (in this case, causing many deaths).

Thank you Jenny McCarthy
“I do believe sadly it's going to take some diseases coming back to realize that we need to change and develop vaccines that are safe. If the vaccine companies are not listening to us, it's their f___ing fault that the diseases are coming back. They're making a product that's s___. If you give us a safe vaccine, we'll use it. It shouldn't be polio versus autism.”

One cannot mention pertussis without also mentioning the Jenny McCarthy Body Count. (Also valid for diphtheria, measles, etc, etc.)

!! Weird republican bullshit alert !! with sources
You must be a republican, because you're attacking democrats with some weird out-of-left-field comparison to Stalin, claiming that the left-leaning among us want to silence expression, when it's the republicans who:
* want to suppress political expression in the form of one bogus voter ID law after another, running on a fraudulent specter of non-existent voter fraud (one source of many), or because "kids vote liberal" (source)
* want to suppress emotional expression by way of banning gay marriage for no discernable reason other than "gays make us uncomfortable" (and remember, these are the same guys who also don't like interracial marriage!) (source)
* want to suppress academic and scientific speech using bogus lawsuits AT THE GOVERNMENT LEVEL (source) just because they don't like the facts the science reveals
* fight repeatedly to curtail regulations on what chemicals big industries pump into the ground (source) or what they put in our food (three republicans eating pink slime to stick it to obama)
Oh, wait, it's because someone made a joke about punching an anti-science, anti-vaxxer in the face, that dems are teh eeevil! That same anti-science, anti-vaccine nonsense, by the way, which has led to many deaths.
Republicans...what will they think of next? Nothing! That's the joke..they don't really think. -

Re:influenza is serious
Actually contrary to popular opinion chicken pox can have serious side effects including encephalitis and death.
http://www.jennymccarthybodycount.com/Jenny_McCarthy_Body_Count/Whats_The_Harm.html
And having suffered shingles at the age of 40 I can tell you that it was the worst experience of my adult life. Any childhood vaccination that could have prevented that would have saved a week of extreme pain. And I had a very mild case.

Re:Jenny McCarthy kills babies
http://jennymccarthybodycount.com/Jenny_McCarthy_Body_Count/Home.html
There are your unnecessary deaths. At least some of those are her fault directly - people not vaccinating their kids because she told them to.
She yelled 'fire' in the crowded and panicky theater of parents worried about their children. Children died as a result. We should ensure that it never happens again.

Jenny McCarthy Body Count
I don't see any mention of the Jenny McCarthy body count yet. It's a well sourced web-site on the topic.

Jenny McCarthy kills babies
Why listen to medical science? Jenny McCarthy kills babies. Jenny McCarthy kills babies

Most corporate behavior outside of a few narrow sectors is *way* under-policed.
And then there are other kinds of Fraud. -
Bill Gates vs other media figures.
I don't know how the algebra of media exposition to human awareness works, but in my personal estimation, in regards to aspects of reality and science, Bill Gates is at least 10 times the worth of Jenny McCarthy; let's hope that magnification propagates to all parents and re-assures them that vaccinating their children is the right thing to do.
For so many reasons. -

Not *entirely* news...
Hi, speaking on behalf of the medical field, we've known a bunch of this for years. Which is why the accusations from the Anti-Vax mob about "Pushing Poison" on behalf of "Big Pharma" was so infuriating. This asshole lied about MMR and other vaccines because he was pushing his own vaccine. He's done incalculable harm, for his OWN profit, and his supporters accused *us* of being immoral profit slaves.
And this includes all you soft-spined assholes who would take the stance of "Well, I'm not saying they're right, but maybe they have something, there are a lot of concerns right? What harm is there to letting the parents decide if they're uncomfortable?"
Hope the truth burns, folks.

Well that all depends. How much is relieving your vague sense of unease over a scary-sounding chemical worth?
Is it worth 622 dead children?

Herd immunity
Ever read about Dana McCaffery? [danamccaffery.com] She was too young to be vaccinated, and she died of pertussis that the anti-vaxxers brought back.
To be fair, pertussis is an environmental bacterium and is pretty common in adults -- it doesn't need anti-vaxx (aka "pro-disease") loons to "bring [i] back."
Not so measles -- that's one we could actually send off to join smallpox in the annals of extinct pathogenic viruses. Or we could, if it weren't for people like Andrew Wakefield, who saw a chance to make some money by killing children in the UK. Thus we have babies too young to be vaccinated contracting measles in their paediatricians' waiting rooms because somebody took their unvaccinated darlings to Switzerland and when they came back the little darlings came down sick. http://www.jennymccarthybodycount.com/Jenny_McCarthy_Body_Count/Home.html
