Re:Pricing
Are most players iPods? In th US maybe but probably not anywhere else. In Europe cheap flashbased players can be had for close to nothing, like $30. Just as you can get a free gun for opening a bank account in the US you are quite likely to get a no brand MP3/WMA player in Europe.
We also have nice looking non Apple MP3 players. -
Re:Patent-free Ogg Vorbis
http://www.jensofsweden.com/ - nice players, and they can even handle Q9 if I remember correctly.

Re:E-Ink
it will probably be the first commercial application of organic electronic
BS. There are lots of examples, but for instance, the JoS MP-120 is not even a new product anymore, and it comes with a OLED display. And it rocks the socks off a Shuffle, too.

Re:The problem is...
I have a Jens Of Sweden MP-400, and with the latest firmware it plays Ogg Vorbis up to and including Q9 quality.
I have a very hard time imagining how they would shoehorn an ARM7 into a device not much larger than my thumb, what with also fitting a rechargeable LiIon battery with nearly 20 hours playing time inside. -
Check these out.
put a table together with the product names, their suggested retail price, the type of media they use and/or built-in storage size, connectivity (Firewire/USB/etc) and their supported formats?
The problem is that new players are being added to the marketplace every day, so it would be a bitch to keep it updated. Also, a lot of the new players are coming out of S. Korea, China and Japan, but are only for domestic consumption, so unless you can read Japanese, Chinese or Korean, you're out of luck.
Little-known secret -- many of the "well-known" players are just rebranded Korean/Chinese units. The most egregious example of this is Jens of Sweden's MP-300, which is just a rebranded Nextway NMP-612T.
You can find a few retailers that sell out-of-country players on the 'net -- my personal favorite is Cool MP3 Store. They feature some of the latest and greatest stuff coming out of the East -- way cooler than mere iPod's or MuVo's. Check out some of these bad-boys. -
Re:I think you need to speed up the silences...
The MP-130 from JensOfSweden can change the playback rate of any MP3 (max 150%, I think).

Re:Othe great products
You think that's bad, try clicking here. It seems to be some sort of "tampon recharging" device... with wing!
Everything feels like it was designed by a woman from this company. Even the name of the company and the logo. There's no appreciation for the hard edged right-angle logos.

Re:What's with the marketing?
Do they have a flash spell checker?
-
Not made in sweden.
Would be good if the player is actually made and designed in Sweden. Too bad it's not. Fact is, the flash-based MP3 player market is largely dominated by the koreans.

Othe great products
Did anyone else check out the "His and Her"
.. um .. rectal probes? -
256mb of good looks
Okay, that's just cool looking and I give them huge props on the look and feel. Even the USB-port-slide-out-feature is very cool. Not as certain about the "joystick" feature.
But what is with the 256MB capacity? I am not trying to be an Apple zelot here, but with the iPod Mini, hasn't Apple really drawn a line in the sand where Style and 4GB capacity intersect at a sub $250 price point?
The way I see it, no one who ever uses a high capacity digital music player (remember back when we called them MP3 players?) will ever go BACK to a low capacity sub 100 song player. Just won't happen. You get hooked on the ability BROWSE.
But anyway, nice looking toy -

Dude I bet she couldn't dance on her hands!
I find the ad disturbing- why two left hands????
Look at the photo yourself- that's weird huh?

That is one of the sweetest things I've ever seen
... assuming it's real and not vaporware.
I haven't seen any practical OLED apps, and if this is one of them consider me sold on the technology.
Also, it's worth mentioning that my agency did a fingerprint analysis on the user in the picture and our results have conclusively indicated that she is in fact:
A NATALIE PORTMAN CLONE!!! We knew it was possible!
Amen brothers!

How could they miss the Jens i-bead?
They missed my favorite player, the Jens (sounds like yens 'cause it's Sweedish.)
It was the editor's choice for one of those sites (ziff davis or pcweek or something) a few months ago when I bought it. It's the size of a stick of chewing gum, has 512MB Ram, USB connector at one end, and it's also an FM Radio and a voice recorder. Even better, it comes with a really cool neckstrap with built-in earphones. The icing on the cake is that it is delivered in a really sexy black aluminum tube.
Oh well... (warning: very loud flash-enabled homepage!)
