Re:CensorBot
They didn't wave Nazi flags, but they did march and are the moral equivalent of Nazis. When you use violence and the threat of violence to shut down political speech and stop non-political annual events - you're no better than a Nazi.

Re:Excellent news
Well, you got Oracle pegged pretty solid..

And the problem is?
"It's unlikely that a high school student would come away with any other conclusion than the police are a fearful group to be avoided at all costs," says Eugene O'Donnell, a former police office
That's the current state of affairs, so it would seem they are teaching exactly what they should be.
On the bright side breaking the law is a good way to have contact with the police and hence one of those costs is to not break the law.
On the less bright side, that means not making contact with the police to report crimes and wanted people, since it isn't worth the risk of contact with police: http://www.kgw.com/story/news/...
And if someone needs medical attention, 911 is not the way to do so, especially if they they might have seizures or anything the police might interprete as not obeying their god like commands: http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/l..., http://www.nhregister.com/gene..., http://fox59.com/2013/02/05/ep..., http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/l..., http://www.sanluisobispo.com/2...
So hopefully you have the number of a medical service rather than the generic let's send the police anyway 911 call.
And yes people lie, and some of those are probably people lying, but there have been enough cases to end in court with the one claiming they were having a seizure or similar winning.

Re:Huh? Why was Monsanto even on the list?
It is pretty terrifying the scale at which Monsanto has been carless with its experimentation. Their projects seem to be escaping into the wild and replicating at an alarming rate. http://www.nature.com/news/201... and http://www.kgw.com/news/USDA-N...

Re:Great...
Airport = "gun free zone," just the same as schools and malls tend to be, which is where these "events" tend to happen.
Since it was a so called "gun free zone," pretty much the only lawfully armed people there would be the police. (There are some very limited exceptions.) For some reason criminals seem to ignore both social convention and signs forbidding the bringing weapons into areas so marked. The law abiding, assuming they didn't overlook it, would disarm before entering such a place. I'm sure that someone as sharp as you can see the potential for asymmetric outcomes there.

Re:Yes
You just dis-proved your own point. You, a person working in the government, believes that your constituents are crazy when they might not be. Let's be honest, there are a bunch of wackos out there and many bunk conspiracy theories.
Unfortunately, Chemtrails are real:
http://www.globalresearch.ca/atmospheric-geoengineering-weather-manipulation-contrails-and-chemtrailshttp://www.naturalnews.com/037451_chemtrails_conspiracy_theory_geoengineering.html
Most of the things that you see in the sky are in fact normal jet contrails but don't act like nobody has ever sprayed a questionable substance from an airplane. It happens.
I never heard a conspiracy about the Portland water bureau. I do know of real problems with the water in Portland. There have been at least two cases in the last 3 years of the water not being safe to drink downtown. This was reportedly due to someone throwing a contaminant in to an open-air reservoir. I remember seeing signs on every bar and being told that water was not available at a restaurant. They talked quite a bit about putting lids on the open air reservoirs to avoid future contamination. Now they want to fluoridate the water and that is up for debate.
Bad water in Portland:
http://www.kgw.com/news/Boil-water-notice-issued-for-Portlands-west-side-163294096.htmlBefore you go calling everyone crazy you should consider that there may be cause for real concern behind public outcry. It may not be rational but that is what political debate is all about. People need good information so they can make informed decisions.

Numerous documented cases of rapes and other sexual assaults in the OWS camps around the nation - google "ows rape" and you'll find plenty. Here's one to get you started: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/02/tonye-iketubosin-arrested_n_1072367.html

Re:Almost no one is killed by "assault weapons"
The recent shooting at a mall in Portland ended when the shooter encountered a man with a concealed carry permit and a hand gun.

In Oregon a Conceal Carry Stopped the Mass Shooter
The shooter saw he was going to be shot by a civilian shopper and he popped his own skull. The civilian was holding his fire until he had a clear safe shot. http://www.kgw.com/news/Clackamas-man-armed-confronts-mall-shooter-183593571.html
What if the CCW person had been hit and his friend couldn't operate his friends handgun thanks to a magic grip lock, what if it had required shooting the mental case.
Lets safe the nutters first, socialize your mental health so not only the rich and union members can access it. If you are worried about that being socialist burn your libaries and public schools first.
Here in Israel my kids teacher packs a glock, it is ilegal for them to go on a class trip without two fireams being loaned by police to trained teachers or guards. There is an armed guard at every school and preschool as well as most shops and malls. OTOH getting a gun permit is difficult to impossible unless you have a reason and then for one pistol and 50 bullets. The rifles you see are all army owned and required for all off duty draft age soldiers or rarely loaned to reserve police or anti-terrorist team members similar to volunteer firefighters. -
Re:"Gat Back"? When did you start?

http://www.kgw.com/news/Man-arrested-for-death-threat-against-WA-candidate-165745706.html
Yeah, dude's nuts. OTOH, the target of his death threat has an "(R)" after her name whenever it appears on the newscasts.

Portland Police Sergeant Greg Stewart told the news station, "We're glad that everyone is alive, despite being 'undead.'"

This is a real issue
It's a real issue if a map system leads people into a trap.
There was a problem in England where a map system led truck drivers down a narrow dead-end lane from which they could not turn around. This was an ongoing problem, and the local property owners raised hell.
An Oregon couple was sent down a Forest Service road in a remote area and was stuck for three days before they were rescued.
The problem is serious in situations where the map system leads people onto an initially plausible route which gets them into trouble. Looking at the pictures for this walking problem, there's a dirt trail alongside the road. But does that dirt trail end before the destination?
Because Google actually drives out roads and takes pictures, people may be led to have more confidence in Google's mapping than in systems which just use ordinary map data.

Re:New Alert System
I didn't hear any of this condemnation from them when left-wing groups exercised their 1st amendment rights while Bush was in office.
That's because left-wingers who tried to get into Bush rallies were denied entry, and/or promptly thrown out if they did manage to get in. Even wearing a patriotic t-shirt was enough, as long as it was the kind of patriotism (i.e., the real kind) that the right-wingers didn't like.
Also, none of them were armed. Seriously, what do you think would have happened to someone carrying a gun and an anti-Bush sign anywhere within a mile of where Bush, or any Republican politician, was speaking?

Re:The glaciers are retreating!
By "credentials", I meant jobs & job titles, not necessarily their degrees. Sorry, poor word choice. But here is one who was slapped down in Oregon- http://www.kgw.com/news-local/stories/kgw_020607_news_taylor_title.59f5d04a.html And here is a prominent scientist that has been crapped on by his peers for not following the status quo- http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/29/magazine/29Dyson-t.html

Re:Cold is on the way...
I'm not surprised that climatological literature is a chorus of global warming anthropogenesis. Climatologists who offer alternative theories get fired (such as Mark Albright) , retitled (such as Patrick Michaels and George Taylor), or threatened with one or both.
This whole issue has become so politicized that any dissenter is viciously attacked, personally and professionally.
You might do well to watch "Doomsday Called Off" to see other scientists' research in beleaguered opposition. -
Re:On wind and solar
"How much power the grid has to transmit depends on demand, not on supply. If no one's drawing power, then the grid doesn't have to transmit anything."
Perhaps I'm putting it wrong then, but according to local news sources in Oregon, there was a dangerous spike in the power grid that caused them a lot of problems, and it was because the system couldn't handle the sudden surge of wind.

Re:Six Month Notice
Because that is exactly what they are told.... over and over and over again. Many scientists, geologists and meteorologists disagree.
What, five of them?
We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.
This petition has been signed by over 19,000 American scientists.
Also, JunkScience.com is offering $125,000.00 to anyone who can PROVE that humans are causing catastrophic global warming. Those are the ones that don't get grants and do get fired. No wonder they don't speak out.
Ah yes, it's the great conspiracy. So tell me, when Republicans controlled the White House and both Houses of Congress, were these same scientists being denied federal grants? It seems to me that it's the Conservatives complaining about the silencing of critics, but they were being silenced by officials of an all-Republican run government.
Sorry, but Republicans do not rule the world.
From HERE:
Several years earlier, in a peer-reviewed article published by the Norwegian Polar Institute, Dr. Jaworowski criticized the methods by which CO2 levels were ascertained from ice cores, and cast doubt on the global-warming hypothesis. The institute's director, while agreeing to publish his article, also warned Dr. Jaworowski that "this is not the way one gets research projects." Once published, the institute came under fire, especially since the report soon sold out and was reprinted. Said one prominent critic, "this paper puts the Norsk Polarinstitutt in disrepute." Although none of the critics faulted Dr. Jaworowski's science, the institute nevertheless fired him to maintain its access to funding."
and HERE:
In a paper issued Jan. 3, 2007, UCS accuses ExxonMobil of funding "front groups" opposed to the climate-alarmist agenda of groups such as UCS and of former Vice President Al Gore. The company, said the UCS report, had distributed $16 million to 43 advocacy groups from 1998 to 2005 "to confuse the public on global-warming science."
Let's leave aside the fact that $16 million over eight years can't match the $2 billion that the federally funded Climate Change Science Program spends each year on global warming, or even the $4 million annual budget of just one of the many well-funded global-warming advocacy groups, Strategies for the Global Environment (the umbrella organization for the Pew Center on Global Climate Change). Moreover, the UCS document is hardly an investigative breakthrough. ExxonMobil itself publishes its philanthropic contributions to nonprofit organizations online.
And HERE is where the state climatologist in Oregon gets fired for questioning global warming:
In the face of evidence agreed upon by hundreds of climate scientists, George Taylor holds firm. He does not believe human activities are the main cause of global climate change.
Taylor also holds a unique title: State Climatologist...
So the governor wants to take that title from Taylor and make it a position that he would appoint.
Then there is THIS one where a scientist was fired for correcting bad data:
University of Washington climate scientist Mark Albright was dismissed on March 12 from his position as associate state climatologist, just weeks after exposing false claims of shrinking glaciers in the Cascade Mountains...

n ews_taylor_title.59f5d04a.html looks like a news site to me. he's not agreeing with the state and thus will be treated accordingly. maybe not silenced in a traditional way, but punished none the less. "seeing as how it's so demonstratably wrong and it would do great harm to their reputation for them to spout idiotic nonsense." no room for debate? no room for dissension? no room for questions? no room for doubt? just right to the calls of heretic! where is all that inclusive diversity we so cherish in the university setting? oh yeah, that's only if you follow the party line. -

Re:wow.
For people who have Morgellons, these boards can hurt, but they are an honest reflection of how people are. I've been reading the message boards for Morgellons for over a year, looking for answers that I could not get from an Infectious Disease doctor and Dermatologist, and found boards to be supportive and helpful. This board is interesting, and people do examine all sides of an issue.
For those who'd like some more information on Morgellons, I'd like to share this brief interview with Dr. Wymore, who is researching the fibers and "scabs" of Morgellons patients. He shares his findings to date, and some thoughts about the patients and their doctors.
http://www.morgellons.org/rwupdate.html
If you cannot listen to the interview, Ever Hopeful's website has photos and a history of Delusions of Parasitosis. It is the DOP concept that seems to be the brick wall in getting doctors to listen or do examinations:

From Alabama, an recent article and television clip - Leigh Ann and her family give an interview, please "click" the video if you have a fast connection. It is a behind-the-scenes look into what happens to Morgellons sufferers:
http://www.wkrg.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=WKR G/MGArticle/KRG_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=11378 36251643
From Los Angeles, California - In the news on May 19th, and May 20th, 2006 in the Archive - make sure you watch the clip in the archive and not the shorter "tease" clip. It should include interviews with people in the archived chip - will have to go back several pages to the 20t:
http://cbs2.com/video/?id=18783@kcbs.dayport.com
This story was followed up with Part Two on Monday, May 22nd, featuring an interview with a family who is suffering this disease, as well as a perfect example of the typical smugness experienced with Dermatologists convinced this is DOP, via an interview with a UCLA Dermatologist included in this news segment. In this story, the mother has tested positive for Lyme, and the children have not been tested for Lyme disease because the family could not afford it. Morgellons is very likely a systemic disease, involving the whole body. Not doing any tests and simply declaring this to be a delusion delays treatment.

Re:Something needs to do better than conservation
But, who CAN do it safely? Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, Hanford... and now Rocky Flats. Fact is it will never be done safely, and it cant. So, as long as you are willing to live with known risk, even if considered to the smallest degree, of human endangerment, then i say go for it, build away.

Re:Vocanoworldhttp://www.kgw.com/ has been having live video feeds if you have Windows Media Player.
They've had their helicopter over the mountain for about 40 minutes now with a live feed, and have had some good shots of inside the volcano crater, looking at the hole that was created from the blast.
