This is why we must consider: who had something to gain from the disasterous crimes of September 11th? Obviously not Osama Bin Laden, who would net no financial windfall from the destruction of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Although he has loudly applauded the "terrorist" acts of September 11th and even tacitly taken credit for them, there is no reason to believe that he is anything more than a bandwagon jumper. That's called elitism, and it actually alienates people. If you want to make a joke about something then you don't talk down at others.

And yet the Britney Spears fans make fun of Christina Aguilera fans ("How can you like her? She sucks!") That so-called "elitist" humor may keep groups of people apart, but it also brings people within groups closer together.

Let's take this a bit further. Here's an idea: Let's ban black comedians! Too many of them tell jokes that only blacks get, often at the expense of whites! This elitism must stop now!

Obviously, I'm being sarcastic. But my point remains. Groups of different people (e.g. Windows and Linux users) are different. There are plenty of Linux users who make fun of Windows users, and vice-versa. There's not "elitism" involved, just regular old inter-group competition. It's natural and normal.

There are plenty of other ways to joke about Linux and viruses than to stereotype a group (Windows' users) as having a low IQ. Perhaps the reason people claim Linux is a religion or for fanatics is because they are alienated by crap like this.

Sure, and there's absolutely nothing like this coming from the Windows or Mac communities, or anywhere else (linuxsucks, *cough*, *cough*.) So why aren't "people" aliented by all the Linux-bashing Windows users? Oh yeah, I forgot, only Linux users are jerks who alienate people, while the linuxsucks people and the like are... ?

I'm not claiming that the article isn't rude, by the way. Although some of it is not (the "cool viruses" bit for example), other parts obviously are (though the article does not accuse Windows users of having low IQs! It says that Simile.D will only infect your Linux box if you have a sub-100 IQ -- please read the story more carefully!)

What I want to know is, why is this article considered to be an example of Linux fanaticism when some Windows users are throwing the same crap back at Linux? Why are "Linux users" in general accused of being fanatics, rather than "some Linux users" or "some Linux, Mac and Windows users"? Why do some people assume that every Linux user is trying to draw people into the emacs vs. vi "war" (like the poster I originally replied to)? I could care less about the emacs/vi thing -- although I have traded some light barbs about this with a co-worker (very tongue-in-cheek), and I'm pretty sure it actually made us better friends.

Anyway, my point is that some people complain about how Linux users stereotype Windows users, while simultaneously arguing the "Linux fanatics" stereotype. The poster I originally replied to, for one. It's really irritating.

They find a new bug in Linux daily." Well, you're right. But there's more to the story. Apparently Alan Cocks (a Red Menace Commie who censors documents under the cloak of the DMCA) is trying to pass the blame on another co-conspirator of Communism.

Apparently, if you'd believe the Linux community, you'd be hard-pressed upon where to place the blame. You see, the Linuxist Manifesto's number one rule is to lie to protect the best interests of Linux. No self-respectable Linux zealot would insult or place blame upon AMD, because AMD's philosophy centers around tackling American Corporations with their Asian sweatshops, selling their chips at bargain-basement prices like the Red Menace Commies do with their Wal-Mart shit.

So, right about now, you're probably thinking that the zealots are clearly in a dilemma. Who are they going to blame? If you have a prediction before I tell you, the poll is on the right. Or maybe the left. Either way, take your pick.

You'd think that the parasitic community would place blame upon Microsoft, right? Alas, Microsoft has had the bug patched since September 2000. Not only that, Windows XP , the latest in the suite of high-powered, stable operating systems from Microsoft Corp., has this patch built in. That's right, built in. Keep in mind that Windows XP was released in October 2001, over three months ago. Meanwhile, no one knows what the hell Alan Cocks has been doing since then, since he hides under the cloak of secrecy. nVidia has been informing users via tech support, even to the Linux community, how to fix the problem for months now. Clearly the blame is upon Alan Cocks's shoulder, but to place the blame where it is rightfully justified is inexcusable in the Linux community. The drones are in disarray.

The actual bug occurs when Linux users contract the Tux Racer virus via KEmail. When first run, Tux Racer enables a feature in your third-world sweatshop AMD processor called "extended paging." Now, I know you're probably thinking that this sounds like some sort of Nokia feature. Well, you're wrong. It's yet another feature that AMD illegally hacked from Intel. It allows your browser to seamlessly view pages up to 4Mb in size. Before its introduction in the early days of the Intel Pentium processor, web pages were broken up into 4K segments, because any pages larger would freeze the computer. That's why Microsoft didn't invent Javascript until after the Pentium, every time they went to use it, their pages exceeded 4K, and henceforth froze the computer. Intel came to the rescue with the Pentium line of chips, and, as usual, AMD got out their super high tech Asian hacking tools and "reverse-engineered" (code-name for 'illegally hacked') Intel's technology. Thus, users of the inferior AMD Cyrix Kx86-2 Now! processor could also view large web pages without crashing. So why did no one notice that pages larger than 4K would crash AMD processors? Well, Microsoft has had a fix for 16 months, like we mentioned earlier. But why did no one from the Linux community notice? Well, apparently, there does not exist a page devoted to Linux that is more than 4K in size. Since most of the Linux installations out there denounce color as 'feature bloat,' all Linux pages follow an unwritten oath to suck. Believe me, they all do.

I've tried FIFTEEN TIMES to install Linux Mandrake v8.1 with no luck!!! There's always some quirk that crashes X-Windows such as video card incompatabilities. Also, it could not find my sound device. I am very disappointed because I wanted to use a UNIX operating system to develop and run Java apps. Well, Microsoft just earned $200 from me for Windows XP Professional. Linux is supposed to be for personal use, but it is absolutely terrible compared to Microsoft Windows. Linux would, I think, be a better server platform than Windows, however, IF I WANTED TO RUN A SERVER, I WOULD USE SOLARIS x86!!! Screw the penguin and the daemon!

I currently have linux installed only as a backup in the event of catastrophic Windows failure. To me linux is only good for the unix shell, the rest of it is an interminable miasma of gui's, buggy configuration tools, and tooth-gnashing frustation. I spent several solid days doing nothing but debugging a mandrake-linux 8.0 distro recently. Despite this i accomplished virtually nothing, and every time i would think i had one bug dealt with, up popped another. As of now i'm considering installing a unix-shell based command line ONLY OS to learn and expose myself to some of that, any other use of linux is to me ridiculous. Windows, particularly XP, can do everything better. Linux is for socially-retarded tech geeks with no life outside of computer-land who pride themselves on their enthusiasm in endlessly debugging their systems. Even though i still use Win98, my system is tweaked and tuned, boots very fast, can do everything i want it to, and crashes rarely (believe it or not). None of this can be said of linux, at least in my humble experience. So go ahead and trash me, you linux devotees...
