Re:What's next?
"NEXT WEEK ON SLASHDOT: We put a PC into.... A CARDBOARD BOX! Is there ANYPLACE that's too wacky for us to use?"
Don't laugh. It's already been done.

Re:Think Cheap
never mind aluminum, use this cardboard case. Simple, cheap and easy.
Aluminum requires a TONNE of energy to produce -- have a read about Embodied Energy. Do a search on embodied energy -- it will change the way you think about consumption, pollution and the solution to sustainability.

Re:I'm waiting for a cardboard case.
you mean, something like THIS !? It's already out. An unfinished kit costs 9800yen (about $100 USD) and a finished box costs 13800yen (about $140 USD). their site says the box doesn't require any glue to assemble because glued paper (cardboard) will make the quality of paper poor when it is recycled... oh well. How much is a cardboard house?

I nominate...
I'd like to nominate this
for design of the year. It really makes everything around it look so much better. -
Building a Mac can be expensive...
After I was done, this was the only case I could afford to house it in.

Other cool stuff from the cardboard folks
Dig around on their site a bit and you see some other case products, like one with Delorean-type openings and some way-cool spherical cases.
Too bad, though. It seems they don't deliver outside of Japan. -

Re:Creativity
No. The odd balls was their previous product.
At least there are more pictures now of that case. It simply looks amazing.
The Globe painted on one is a great idea.
(sure, one could bring the "I don't buy a computer to match my couch" argument, but the "decorative" factor is being pushed with each new iteration)
I wouldn't even go near the one in cardboard because my desk almost always wet because of coffee spills. -
Re:Short english write-up> expected to cost ¥5,000 when they ship.
It is expected that the cost will be somewhere between 50,000 to 100,000 yen.
