Re:125 MORE years until the US gets time...
That's because of the George M. Cohan song "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy" which includes the line "... born on the 4th of July."
The tablet that the Statue of Liberty is holding says, "July IV, MDCCLXXVI". I've always known it as Independence Day or July [the] 4th.

Lobotomy/Bottle Quotes.
... or "I'd Rather Have a Bottle in Front of Me" by Dr. Randy Hazlick. Just to track it further, Hanzlick has admitted to having acquired the line from bathroom wall graffiti at a hospital he was working at. The original quote was "I'd rather have a free bottle in front of me than a pre-frontal lobotomy." which carries some fun wordplay as well.

Re:So now we're gonna slashdot 'em?
The version you have comes from a song Dr. Demento used to play.
"Existential Blues" by Tom "T Bone" Stankus -
Re: Stroke for RMS
Apparently, 'twas not always thus -- many moons ago, the word 'gnu' (meaning a type of antelope) used to be pronounced with a silent 'g'. I gather that The Gnu Song by Flanders and Swann a few decades back was one of the major factors in changing the pronunciation.

Re:Excellent news...
It's a song, "Rose Garden". The most famous and oft-repeated line from the song is "I never promised you a rose garden".

Re:red skies vs blue skies
A very interesting post.
Now, can someone tell me how living on Mars would affect the lyrics to Put on a Happy Face.
"Grey skies are gonna clear up
Put on a happy face
Brush off the clouds and cheer up
Put on a happy face .... "
On second thought, I hate that song.
Never mind.
I'll just go back to listening to c93.
