Re:Why PC? Also see Mac Mini PVR
FWIW before the PC haterz form voltron...Mac Mini PVR
There's also a mythTV client/frontend for OSX, somebody has compiled the mythtv backend on to Tiger, but i believe now the issue is drivers for tuner cards *shrug* (or that's the last I heard)

Re:widgets limitedUntil they fix it, take a look at this Mac LiveCD linux.
That ought to be a lot of fun, in addition to providing a way to run another OS on your Mac.

Re:Oh hells yeah
But they are successful!
It can't be a coincidence that about the time the lawsuit broke, I suddenly found Tiger Direct ads appearing on Slashdot. In fact, as I write this, there is one sitting happily on top of my screen. They are attempting to take advantage of the free publicity which was the true purpose of the suit.
You might be interested in the documents in the lawsuit. It doesn't strike me as a well-argued suit and I'm confident it will fail.
But a lot more people have heard of Tiger Direct now than then, and they might get some sympathy as the "underdog". Unfortunately about 90% of them are Mac users and Tiger doesn't deal with Macs at all. So I doubt it will be the windfall Tiger would like to see.
Of course the story we've responded to also has the same purpose. I laughed out loud when I read it, so it's okay by me. But this story was meant to provide publicity for the team and Bob Young.
And it has :-).

Re:Reply to my own question: Hymn
With this promotion, I need 3 bottles at about $1.20 a pop for a reasonable chance at one song. That's 60 ounces of soda and maybe a song for $3.60. No, thanks.
Nah, you don't have to waste any money. Back when they ran this promotion the last time, several people posted a way to see if you've got a winner without opening the bottle by tipping it at a certain angle. It worked well for me. Just find a store with the drinks in the back so you don't look like a complete tool when your doing it. Probably best two buy a few bottles and practice first.

Let's hope its not plagued by the old problemsRubbish distribution stymied the last giveaway - Apple gave away less than a tenth of the songs they expected too.
They probably fixed this problem too (unfortunately):

Re:Only five million?
... the only people who would get the songs in the first place were the ones who drink Pepsi to begin with...You're forgetting another group... those that drink Coke. Or those like me that really don't have a preference (Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi are about equal in my opinion). So I have a choice of $1.29 and no free song or $1.29 and a possible free song. Of course, there are ways of increasing your odds
Still, I'm shocked as well by the 5 million out of 100 million redemptions.

Re:$33 cd? It is going to decrease profit
On iTunes, it costs nearly $24 for Reubenstein's rendition of Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. On the original CD, each 'variation' (a short musical segment in the whole work) is on its own track for easier seeking (as the work is about 20 minutes long). They are not separate songs, just different parts of an overall work. Some are only about 10 seconds in lenght, too.
The reason I don't buy music online (besides my 50 or so free tracks, thanks to Pepsi making it impossible to lose!) is I think $0.99 is too expensive for a track. It's just as bad as shelling out $17 for one at the music store. If they think people are going to buy tracks for $2.50, think again. But of course, the RIAA has never been in touch with consumers, so it's unlikely they'd start now... -
1 pepsi = 1 itune... If you cheat!
This page shows how its done... You can figure out if the cap is a winner before buying.. Although you'll look a little odd doing it as the article points out..

Re:crapple
... these
/. mac fags should go get their own site and leave real enthusiasts/nerds alone.
Okay. I'll bite. Dear Mister Troll sir...as to us having a site of our own...we do. In fact we have several from which to choose. And, pray tell, what in your tiny little troll-like mind leads you to believe that Mac users are all of a particular sexual orientation of any kind at all? Or that mac users don't qualify as nerds? And by some strange twisting path of logic that we don't in some way belong here?Newsfalsh! The mac now not only sports a command line environment, but you can set your environment to your shell of choice!
I know, I know, please don't feel the trolls. Move along. Move along... -
Re:Panther delayed?Okay, I stand corrected:
11:08 AM - Here are the g5's. He's talking about the leak.... Was it true?
11:09 AM - It's true!
11:09 AM - World's fastest PC is here. There are three things. Chip, System, Product. The chip is the 970 (g5). 64-bit. Made by IBM. Screw Motorola.

MATLAB 6.5 does in fact work (partially) on 10.2
matlab actually will run under 10.2. What won't run is the graphical desktop interface, but the old-style terminal window interface will run just fine (just do "matlab -nojvm"). Take a look at my posting on macmerc.com for more info.
