Re:Great idea! Let's keep it going:
Leadership only means that you are the first one to do something.
No, leadership not about being the first.
That's not what leadership is at all.I'll just leave these here, these principles and traits are essentially a down and dirty quick guide on proper management:

Marines.com is obviously a mercenary gang
marines.com is actually a Marine Corps recruiting site. But since it's in
.com, not .mil.us where it belongs or at least .mil or .gov, it's obviously a commercial organization. -
Re:been there, done that
> So you're in support of the enforceability of indentured servitude? No wonder you're in favor of DRM.
Trying to equate slavery with indentured servitude is alone quite a stretch; trying to equate either of these with DRM is an absolutely crock of shit. The former two are absolutely matters of life and death, the latter (DRM) is an insignificant detail to a largely affectless area of human interaction.
Absolutely, 100% I should be able to offer my services as a well-treated, housed, fed, respected indentured servant for a limited term of service. In fact this is how almost every single modern military operates.

http://www.goarmy.com/
http://www.marines.com/
etc.
You will find that you will commit to some number of years of service (e.g., servitude) and that there are penalties for breaking this initial contract. If you feel you are mistreated or that the other side (e.g., the Air Force for example) is not living up to their part of the bargain, you go before a court, argue this, and have the contract annulled. It happens literally nearly every day.
Welcome to the real world, where there are bullets and pain, not just quibbles and bitching about whether you can play your iTunes on your Network Walkman.
Please: do not equate slavery with DRM. You insult yourself and the actual atrocities of real slavery, which still exists quite in a quiet proliferated fashion in our world. Women are kidnapped and sold into horrible sexual slavery. Political prisoners are sold as slave labor into desolate wastelands to mine and work as loggers. The world is a fucked up enough place without your demands that freely accepted terms of contract should be able to be willy-nilly ignored if you feel like it. You place far too high an importance on your "fair use" to listen to something that can be found for sale in the ITMS for $0.99 USD and not enough on the vast chain of consequence that wanton disregard for contracts would incur. -

Not everyone starts college at 18. Some of us choose to serve our country first

The only ones that help...
If you want to make sure your money goes to the guys who are actually doing someting to help, donate to the USMC.

Well of course they do!
How many Marines do you think there are that think that military force is the wrong way to solve problems?
The Marines absolutely have to believe they're doing the right thing. That absolute, unwavering belief is part of what keeps them alive.
The thing is, Marines are generally not political scientists. They're not experts on foreign relations, and they don't know the nuances of the different branches of Islam. They're the pointy end of the stick, and they're damn good at being that.
The problem is, the person weilding that pointy stick has to use that stick effectively. They're supposed to be the ones who *do* know about diplomacy, who *do* know about the history of the region, the culture, and everything else. Loyal marines should *not* be wasted on something that is not going to make the country or the world safer.
What many of the "liberals" think is that not only is it awful that US soldiers are being killed, the bad part is that it is making both the country and the world a less safe place. It's the job of the Marines to do what the Commander in Chief says to do, including dying. Its the job of the voters to choose a Commander in Chief who won't send them to die unless it's absolutely necessary.
If you disagree, and think that their deaths are necessary to help save the world, why not enlist. It's something that far more of the current democrat politicians have done than republicans. Maybe that should tell you something.

TLDs are BS
How many does somone or a comany need to buy to "avoid" ambiguity. I mean every slashdot is taken except slashdot.name, and it kills me that slashdot.com gets any hits for the website slashdot.org. Slashdot used to not even redirect or give you a bozo message for accessing slashdot.com, it just threw the contents of slahdot.org at you.
What are the points of TLDs? I thought they were to avoid ambiguity, yet they promote it. Remember the whitehouse.com vs. whitehouse.gov thing? How about the current suprnova.org vs. suprnova.com and suprnova.net? The USPS can't figure out if they are a .gov or a .com. Same with the US Marines. Are they a .mil or a .com. Keep in mind that .com is supposed to be for commercial stuff. I guess the military is the biggest business in the US, but thats another post.
How many "normal" people know more than the .com domain?
I go on these rants from time to time, and I feel as though I'm in the vast minority of people that see no purpose of TLDs, but can anyone give one example of their utility? I have found one guy on the net that agrees with me and the /.er that pointed me out to that page, but otherwise they keep making more of them and making them longer and more silly.
Now, the only useful thing for TLDs is to separate countries. Why? Because countries have different languages and currencies. I get pissed when I do a google search for something and end up at a brittish site. I have nothing against the brits, but its stupid for me to look at buying a $10 trinket from there. Its not too common, but I've ended up at UK .com sites and was not happy. /rant -
Re:The draft
Believe what you want, but Rangle was quite mad that the priviledged few were unwilling to join the the few and the proud. Go read the Congressional Record and view the news accounts from when the bill was introduced. Do you have any facts to back up your opinion?

Re:Wired?
If its Bezos's job to take advantage of the government due to poor enforcement for as long as he can get away with it,
Bezo has explicitly asked the government for permission to behave this way- and they agreed (that's what the patent application process is).
He's not being sneaky or hiding anything, and thus is "in reality expressing the highest respect for the law". (My apologies to MLK, for slightly twisting his quote. But it's still applicable)
If you'd like to kill some people, then you're free to go to Washington and ask for permission. It may sound like I'm making a joke, but depending on your proposal, they could be quite willing to support you. Maybe you'll even get a gun and ammunition provided! The easiest way to start is by submitting these forms. -
Re:when?Egads...
Don't use "the Corps" to refer to the Peace Corps.
There's another organization that preceeds the existance of the Peace Corps, and rightfully lays claim to "the Corps."

Re:Those unfair cocksuckers!Nothing wrong with making
.prn porn only IMHO. Doesn't offend me in the least.Forcing stuff there on the other hand...
In your example:
.mil is only for legitimate military sites. So why is the US Marines main site a .com? Those dirty rotten military people - why are they taking valuable .com space. They should stay in their own .mil. -
Enlist!
