I didn't find the crude "anus" humor so funny. What made it funny to me was seeing this site after sites that let you buy property on the moon and on Mars along with the radio advertisements allowing you to name a star after someone. That combined with the "anus" humor cracked me up.

Nonetheless, I don't really think that this is the funniest site on the internet. It's called hyperbole.

With businesses like http://www.marsshop.com/ selling acre tracts of Martian land, how long before we have someone claiming that the Mars Polar Lander wreckage belongs to them?

We have [usually sunken] treasure laws, accidentally-delivered-merchandise laws but we'll need an inter-planetary-law expert to sort this out, anyone knows a good one?

Only if you mean these real estate futures.

As space travel become privitised and travel cheaper, inevitably old treaties will be revised by corperate interests, in favour of the private ownership of other planets.

Titan _Will_ eventually become privatly owned by some rich tycoons/corperations/religions looking to make money off it, and whatever life is there will be subject to their bulldozing mercy.

Might be far fetched, but remember you can buy plots of land on mars here

OK, maybe not but it will interesting for those people foolish enough to have bought into this to try to lay claim to their land. "Hey, NASA get your Rover off my property or I will charge you with trespassing!" :)

Well, to be honoust.. I was the only one there. Not strange considering I'm the only martian left.
I stay here on this beautiful red planet to draw the maps for the marsshop in the hope that soon the creatures from earth will come visit me and maybe live here. I am counting on the fact that the first couple of thousand humans will be mostly geeks. I am a regular slashdot visitor and can identify myself with the nerds. All alone with one of my 3 right hands.
I was visited by a creature that originated from your planet before. Nice little chap. Very polite but not much of a conversational person. And he had wheels... do you all have wheels?
On the topic of slashdot: well.. I have a karma of excellent and since I'm a huge Bill & Ted fan, that is enough for me to know about karma.
I think the forum is nice, but I hate those trolls. We had trolls on this planet (ugly and mean little buggers) as well. But we threw them of the planet because they were killing our future. Just like your trolls are ruining yours. I understand that Linux is not the biggest OS on your planet. It IS on ours (well.. i'm the only one with a computer... so not that tough to win over the planet). But to many in that community are not considering that people who might think about Linux are confronted with yelling ranting and screaming people (the trolls) and are turned of of something that could be so wonderful.
Never tried Windows though. That Mr. Gates person reminds me to much of the martion trolls.
So if we got rid of the trolls, how come that I'm the only one left you ask? Well, some martians took control of everyones privacy and security. They decided to make all decisions for us, and life got so boring and restricted, that most of us took their own lives or started a war amongst eachother as we did not dare to fight the big evil. And that was that. I got lucky. I'm a martian geek.. I was locked up in my room with my computer for a coding session. And once I got out of my room to get some pizza (as no one was answering the phone at the pizzacave). I noticed everybody else was dead.
Sad story but hey. The only one I miss is the bloke that delivered my pizza.

So what is all this about?

Well, that is quite a story!

A declaration of ownership was filed with the United Nations as well as the US and Russian governments 20 years ago by Mr. Dennis M. Hope of the Lunar Embassy, to ensure that a legal basis for the ownership of the properties sold here can be claimed. On that wonderful day in 1980, the Lunar Embassy was born.

If this sounds like a joke to you, please read on, because this is no joke. The sale of lunar property has been ongoing for 20 years by the Lunar Embassy, which are THE ONLY COMPANY in the world to posess a legal basis and copyright for the sale of lunar, and other extraterrestrial property within the confines of our solar system. This is discussed in detail in our general FAQ on this website as well as our space law page (Warning...that one is heavy reading!).

In 1996, we opened our first web site, the MoonShop, which was the first Internet website ever, to be selling properties on any extraterrestrial body.

Within 9 months of opening the MoonShop, the Lunar Embassy was showered with Internet awards and an overwhelming press attention worldwide, which is continuing today. At the time of writing, the Lunar Embassy has appeared on TV in over 180 countries worldwide on approximately 80 different TV channels, including CNN International, RTL, NBC and Australia Channel 9 to name only four. There have been literally hundreds of press articles and radio shows covering the Lunar Embassy and its offers, which are literally, out of this world. Unfortunately our computer center is too small to show you all of them (!). So who on Earth buys extraterrestrial property?

The short answer is: EVERYONE. Whilst the Lunar Embassy treat their list of clients confidentially, we can reveal that approximately 250 very well known celebrities as well as two former US presidents are now extraterrestrial property owners. This includes approximately 15 main actors from the original Star Trek series, as well as the Next Generation and Voyager series.

Many companies purchase lunar cities or states to give to their customers. Lovers buy them as gifts for their loved ones. Investors buy them for their children. Schoolkids buy them for charity, resell them, and then give thousands of dollars to cancer research. (Yes, this happened recently.) The list of people who buy them is endless. Dentists, lawyers, nurses, space hobbyists, trekkers, doctors, taxi drivers, policemen and up to now, about 30 NASA employees. At the last count over 1'050'050 people are already proud owners of their extraterrestrial property, with properties on the Moon being the hot forerunner of course (because these are the only properties you can easily see from Earth), coming in at approximately 869'020 customers, and Mars owners currently running at 181'030 customers.(Yes, these numbers are recent.)

Some will lead...and others will follow...

With the fame, of course, came the copycats, all of them not legal, as they do not hold a claim that precedes the claim of the Lunar Embassy, for the properties in question.

There are now three other Internet pages that try to sell properties on two extraterrestrial bodies in the solar system, to which the Lunar Embassy hold the claim, and on top of that, all are more expensive than us, in every respect. Unfortunately, they are doing this in a highly irresponsible manner, to the disadvantage of any unsuspecting customer. One even calls themselves "consulate"to copy the Lunar Embassy. You have been luckier. You found us first. You will not get a fake Rolex for twice the price. You will get the real thing, at the correct lower price.

WE THE LUNAR EMBASSY are the only recognized world authority for the sale of lunar and other planetary real estate (including Mars) in the known solar system. Please be advised that any others are copy cat companies without authority, soliciting your money for unauthorized products. As the Lunar Embassy are the sole holders of the property claim to all planets in the solar system and their Moons (with the exceptions of the Sun and the Earth), we of course, also intend to offer properties for sale on all of these stellar bodies in the forseeable future.

Of course you can buy your property here and then resell it over the Internet. There are several such websites, and they all carry the newly introduced websites seal of approval.

Remember - if it doesn't carry the seal, it isn't real.

I do like the plane on a post idea however. But this begs one question: Will my AIBO (No link, just look for the banner ad...) be waterproof??

Hmmm... I think I'll just save up for the Condos on Mars... Maybe a Boeing 727 in a Bomb shelter on Mars... WoooHooo!
