MoveableType as CMSCheck it out. MT generates clean XHTML coupled with CSS. I know everyone thinks of it as a blogging tool, but I've already used it on two commercial sites and clients LOVE it because it is easy to use, and I love it because I can easily manipulate the CSS outside the CMS and drop it in. It's a great example of why separation of content and presentation is so valuable.

Excellent Solution
Moveable Type is an excellent solution. Very user friendly with excellent online documentation. It's also easy to set up! I'd totally recommend it, I too have set it up for a few folks that aren't all that computer savvy, and they've had no problem using it to blog. There's also their pay service Typepad that is even more newbie friendly and requires no setup at all! Either of these solutions will do what you need.

not sure about the gallery.. but for blogging
you could try them with a MoveableType
.. or if not .. try a Livejournal .. They're just the two ideas that would be pretty simple .. oh and hacking up a php or perl site with really really simple input wouldn't be too hard either. -
Pro now free because they're not hurting for cashAt least, that's what the e-mail I got from Evan Williams said. His explanation:
Pro subscribers helped keep us going as a struggling start-up, when servers and bandwidth were at an extreme premium. We wanted to keep basic Blogger free, but we needed to start charging in order to keep the lights on. So we built new things that would appeal to some Blogger users....
So, apparently, they have the money to offer the feature set of Pro to everyone. Good for them. (I moved to MT a few months ago for a number of reasons.) Those of us who paid the $35 got a nice parting gift.
Today, as you may know, Blogger's situation is much different. For one thing, we're part of Google.... Google has lots of computers and bandwidth. And Google believes blogs are important and good for the web. :) -
Blogged Bibile
I saw this and thought that a bible had been written by bloggers using MT. Time for caffine I think

Your Answer: Moveable Type
MT does just that and is widely used by the blogging community.
There are many plugins available for it, too.
All you need is CGI (perl) support on your server -- it doesn't require a database and the site it generates is based on static pages (partially) updated every time the admin makes a change. -
Re:
Or you could use a more versatile system like MoveableType...

Re:I don't really get blogs...
LiveJournal blogs are the worst, IMHO. People go on and on about events and parties with people that 99.99999% of their readers have never met. Once I realize I've stumbled across something like that, I leave it as soon as I can.
I'd really love to know where people get the idea that livejournals are blogs. Being the intelligent folk that you are, I'd have thought that you'd guess from the name that livejournals are... journals.
Most of the best blogs are hosted on the owners' domain (generally using MoveableType, or b2, and focus very little on the life of the blogger.
