I don't know much beyond what ive read of the xbox scene, but homebrewers are the kind of people that are going to put timer chips on motherboards, patch kernels, code simple games, exploit and generally do clever things, pirates just trick a console into thinking that it is playing a legit game. (again AFAIK) The xbox360 has pretty bulletproof, however 1 hole was found (by homebrew, to run linux on it) as a result the encryption keys for the cd drives where swiped and now pirates have produced modchips for piracy. Sometimes (from what i read here) the relationship is more symbiotic but basically all the hardwork is done by the homebrew scene. I think the wii is a special case as it was soo easy to crack and the GC already had its piracy tools, as soon as the homebrew guys got in the pirates followed.
The PS has always had an established piracey crowd, IMO its why they beat N64s, however afaik as of now, there is no piracy on the ps3, the major difference between xbox360 and the ps3 was that linux/homebrew had a place on the ps3.

:)"then most likely whomever you work for made you sign away the rights to it, even though they aren't a game developer, most likely it some way pertains to work you've done for your employer, and it's going to be untouchable.
now, you could look into the DS homebrew scenehttp://www.ndshb.com/, maybe find a couple credible homebrewers who are willing to slave away on your idea to produce a totally free product that will turn heads, and get them serious 6 figure jobs... or whatever it is they slave over homebrew games for...
that site might not be the best, it was just a top google site.

Nintendo doesn't need to recoup their losses from the sale of the console, since they are actually making money on the box itself. That's probably also the reason why owners of Nintendo DSs are not barraged with update after update, despite the existence of a homebrew community.

OK, I'll admit - I was exaggerating. But it is *not* easy, and it is *not* something that most people want to do.
You either have to use a passthrough device every time, or just once to flash your DS firmware... And the passthrough device you have to use varies based on which version of firmware your DS has. And you have to have a ROM image of one of your DS games all set up, and then you have to have the GBA Flash Card reader.
The process is far from straight forward and easy - especially for the average Game Boy customer.

Check out the PassMe2 with M3 and Supercard reviews. You mean to tell me that it is an easy simple painless process?
A lot of money and a lot of hassle - especially for non-hackers.
Not that it isn't possible - just not worth *my* time. Dude $30 for a game I will play for > 100 hours? Thats a good deal. $10 for a ticket to a movie? Not a good deal. See? I have no problem with the $30 for the game... If it is still too much, just buy used. I just paid $5 for a used SSX Tricky (I know, like 3 years old) on my GameCube. I have spent easily 50 enjoyable hours so far playing that game. That is 10 hours PER DOLLAR.
And I didn't have to hack anything, change any firmware, or stand on one leg while touching my knose with my right hand and powering on the gamecube with my left. -
Not all homebrew sucks
sadly, if a console is open, you can bet that the openness will be used 95% of the time to play pirated games, not homebrew ones.
There is a middle ground of legal emulation. If you own a copy of a Lucasarts adventure game, and you use your right under 17 USC 117 to use ScummVM DS to install it onto a CompactFlash card and then put the CF card into an adapter on your Nintendo DS, you can still play commercial quality games without piracy.
Quite simply because commercial games are of much higher quality than any homebrews!
Not always. Would you rather play Tetris Worlds for GBA, which actually breaks the concept, or would you prefer Tetanus On Drugs for GBA? Would you rather play Lumines on a PSP and Minesweeper on a Pocket PC, or would you prefer Luminesweeper on a GBA SP while your backside is cushioned by a wad of cash?

If all you want to play is Homebrew then you could just buy the Gameboy Advance Movie Player and then get the Firmware Hack and then if you don't mind opening up your DS and flashing the firmware you can play homebrew on the GBA Movie Player without a passme (plus it gets rid of that annoying as fuck touch to being screen at the beginning). Total cost? $25 + shipping + CF card which a 32 MB Generic card (I mean you don't need a sansdisc for this right?) can be found at PriceWatch for $11 shipped. So for under $40 you can do homebrew on DS and for comparison the smallest Memory Stick Pro Duo I could find is a 64MB one that costs $13 shipped. Also the GBA MP can play movies and MP3s as well.
