Offtopic, but...
...very annoying. I was reading through the article(s) and at some point stumbled across a link to the official site of the sonic advanced series.
This redirected me http://www.nintendogamecube.com/old_browser.vm.
I am a Debian user, and with that an Iceweasel-user.
So whats all this crap about hedgehogs, when my weasel don't run them...
Shame on Nintendo!!! -

Crippled PCs suck, don't they?
Good thing that some companies still make game consoles.
Sorry, but I have karma to burn and had to say it. -
Re:Think Smarter - new IBM motto
AND we still don't get any more done than we did back in the day.
yeah, but that's only becuase as the power and availibility of computing technology has improved over the years, the power and availability of video game technology has improved at exactly the same rate -

...as well as what many would consider a superior alternative, for which modchips are not required due to the fact that multi-region modification is trivial.

Re:Gameboy Advance
I'd link directly to the page on Nintendo's GC site (http://www.nintendogamecube.com/launch.html) but their whole site is a big flash animation. It's item #10 on the flash thing. Definitely looks cool, but $100 for a controller...

Re:Why Not a PC?
Okay! Have a look at http://www.nintendogamecube.com - Nintendo themselves speak about the decision to base the GameCube on technical Requirements, not technical Possibilities.
The requirements are to provide developers with the tools required to develop gameplay focussed games. The tools required, sadly, by most PC games developers seems to be a huge polygon count and 100+ FPS.
Nintendo style games. I think most gamers will have a notion of what this means. When you play a Nintendo game it somehow feels different. Its like playing something by Sonic Team on Sega.
You may not have played enough Nintendo games to get this... but from NES, Gameboy through to N64 and GameCube there are certain constants which are more improtant than plumbers.
For that to be the dumbest thing you read all day you mustn't read a lot! ;-) -
Go for the Gamecube...
I recommend remaining with your choice of the gamecube. Go to the Nintendo GameCube website and check out the CubeClubs. Basically these are events in select cities where you can go play the GameCube with a lot of different games. I went to the one in Atlanta, GA a few weeks ago and I have to say that Star Wars is absolutely breathtaking. I felt like I was actually in the movie controlling the X-wing. You can do many different missions though, and use a lot of different vehicles. Another one I really liked was Madden 2002. I've been a fan of Madden ever since it was Madden 64. I have played Madden 2002 for PS2 at a friend's house and I thought the graphics were really great but the play was unresponsive. Well, for GameCube, as expected, that is fixed. The players respond immediately to what you press on the controller. Oh, and that reminds me, the controller for GameCube is really cool. I was skeptical at first sight on cube.ign.com but when I held it in my hand it just felt right. They've really outdone themselves with this system, trust me... or go to a Cube Club.
