Fat chance to that happening. They should just throw their code out to the hounds, but I guess they're scared and embarrassed to even consider taking up a 'proper' development model...
In that case, I think the tree in question most have withered and died a long time ago. Maybe it got too much manure in the course of the 20th century, or it died from radiation or pollution...
Living in Germany I am affected by the same ongoings, as mentioned in a comment earlier. Though I find it deeply troubling to see more and more 'content' being locked away by the use of drm and related technologies, and at the same time laws being introduced to step by step set the ground for illegalizing free software, I do want to add that the irony of the hole 'drm-issue' is, that 'They' are locking away 'their' contents, which only exist to distract us from the simple fact that 'we' generally find 'our own' content to be much more satisfying/informative/interesting/fun than all that hollywood non-informative/propagandistic/moralistic crap. Its like getting setup to taking hard drugs, the first shots are free, then once you're hooked, they want you to pay...Now they're turning off the tap, and yay I'm finaly free:)
Personally I 'need' support for Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, not for myself, but for my girlfriend. It is the single showstopper for her linux experience, and until it is fixed, I'll never hear the end of it:(
Me and my dad both play violent video games! In Germany, this is being made 'really illegal' by OLD populist politicians... It has never been 'legal' for minors to purchase violent games here, and it is getting more and more difficult to do so even as an adult today. My youth (regarding violent video-games / I am still only 22!):
1. Somehow get the guy at the counter to sell me the game. Try different shops/counters. (Becoming annoyed...) 2. Discover that although I had bought and paid more money for the 18+ version, the game had been censored. (Becoming angry...) 3. Find and download a blood-patch. The sites hosting them generally were pulled off the net relatively quickly. (Becoming frustrated...) 4. Install the blood-patch. (Becoming aware that computers just as humans can be very annoying, aggravating and frustrating. Learning something about both at the same time though...) 5. Have a lot of fun, laugh at that head that just exploded, just as 'the makers' intended it to do. (Becoming calm by getting rid of all that aggression I had built up in steps 1-4...)
Before I was old enough to go to a store to buy my games, my dad got them for me. Wolfenstein3d or Doom where already installed on his computer. We used to play them together, I did the shooting (pressing Strg) he did the walking (using the arrows) The irony here is, that from the age of about 15/16 I was the one supplying my dad with violent video games, paying for them with my pocket money. I still do it today! (Not from my pocket money though...)
By the way, Wolfenstein3D was THE first game I ever played, and by 'coincidence' it is also one of the very few titles in Germany that are totally banned, not just for minors. Censorship in the name of protecting the young is wrong, and (in Germany) we know where those laws originated from... So speaking for all oppressed gamers young or old, I cry out "Die, Fuhrer, Die!" with at least one or two winks...;)
...very annoying. I was reading through the article(s) and at some point stumbled across a link to the official site of the sonic advanced series. This redirected me http://www.nintendogamecube.com/old_browser.vm.
I am a Debian user, and with that an Iceweasel-user.
So whats all this crap about hedgehogs, when my weasel don't run them...
Exactly....you see we are facing a conspiracy here. The gamedevs don't WANT to write all these shiny 3D-Graphics-engines which require ridiculous amounts of memory, horse power and of course disk space, not mentioning that huge graphics card, its just their employers. And guess on whose payroll they are...
But seriously, I think a legitimate question to ask is, Has the explosion of progress in the 3D-Graphics area (and thus the exploding costs for development and for playing ) not left behind something... or am I just getting old ? (I'm 21) And regarding the original question, I would welcome it if someone would prove it, by making a good 2d-game, or at least a 3D-game that 'looks' 2D:)
I say let it roll! I say let's get every politician, police officer, judge, corporate CEO, etc. wired for audio and video and have it stream to the internet 24/7! If we can't hide, then neither can they. That would be the panspectrum then...which in comparison to the panopticum doesn't just 'suggest' that you could be being watched, but watches you constantly, or more precisely just records everything you or anyone else does 24/7.
But a question I need to ask, even if everything would get recorded (and in today's world a lot already does!), who cares? What are the consequences? And more importantly, do all those cameras not make peaple forget their obligation to react when they see injustice? The UCLA-incident, I mean, how many students saw and just watched or worse, were so perverse to pull out their mobiles and record it, instead of stopping the cops(or what ever they were) from torturing their fellow student?
Ok, for those of you who can read the language: http://www.heise.de/tp/r4/artikel/24/24032/1.html I personally find it pretty insightfully, almost as much as the fact that it, together with the boys website was immediately taken off the net. It just goes to show, how repressive the German state is, and how such a terrible incident is used as justification to make laws designed to take away my freedom as a gamer and my responsibility as a sane/more-or-less-moral person in general.
What's up with the guy in the tux-t-shirt!?!
I really hope that Adobe gets it together
Fat chance to that happening.

Are you inciting me to commit terrorist acts?!
Now that's truly patriotic :)

What tree?

Can't I do that anyway? Oh wait...

If you read http://www.catb.org/~esr/writings/world-domination/world-domination-201.html#id247954 you will much better understand why they are pushing for a 'clean' 1.0 release. Its 'now or never' ...
