Secretions video
Parent is totally right, check proof here if you dare: (WMP stream, play with VLC, starts at 16:30, Dutch only sorry) http://cgi.omroep.nl/legacy/babel?/ceres/eo/rest/2009/EO_101150834/bb.20090417.asf
It's about a village doctor having a patient that complains of secretions of his nipples - sounds ugly. It is, actually
....They never did found out why he was getting it though, and he was clearly not taking any estrogen...

MMBase is far from weak
Have a look at the web sites of the united Dutch public broadcast companies, the web site of the public broadcast company, named VPRO, one of the founders of MMBase, or the extensive VPRO 3voor12 pop music website. Enjoy public radio and television on the web. And then decide whether MMBase is weak or not.

UPDATE: the group talked with the department...
... and they are NOT content. The group said that the new measures seem to be in place to prevent them from checking up on other (types of) voting machines. They feel that it is absolutely necessary that they can check on the software used (the closed sourced Windows XP) and judge the whole voting procedure. The new measures prevent them from doing so.
Plus, they are still concerned about the fact that it is possible to 'hear' who voted what, because the nachine makes a noise every time someone votes. This is researched by the Dutch Secret Service right now, but it is not adressed by any of the new measures minister Nicolai has ordered. As it is required by law that voting should be possible in absolute secrecy, they think the next elections cannot use voting machines. Unless of course the issues are adressed, but that is not likely.
They are still considering to ask a judge to forbid the use of the voting machines in the next elections, to be held on the 22 of november 2006. If the judge complies, it is very thinkable that the elections will not take place in november, or even this year.
For those that can understand Dutch, Maurice Wessling of the group has given an interview (wma) to the Dutch national news broadcaster NOS saturday afternoon. -

only the news?
In holland we have virtually all public television programs (of our 3 public channels) put online for 1.5 year now with 3 million something streams around September 2005. If you just missed it there's the"missed program"-site. If you missed it a couple of weeks, most are still watchable from the database. There's another site "tvonyourpc" if you like it on theme. The national news ia put on of all hours and 24 hour news online. Also the commercial channels are now beginning to use this format slowly, competition I guess.. I use mediahopper to track some US channels, but looking forward watching NBC too!

AvailabilityHere in Holland legal video and movie content has been available for a while.
From all public channels and some commercial ones, pretty much everything that is aired is afterwards available via the internet, indefinitely, for free (streamed, no DRM) from here and here. You can watch entire seasons of shows online without commercials, which is really great.

TV and Video Online
I don't have a tv, nor do I want one, but every now and then I want to flake out to some non-interactive entertainment. Here are the sites I've found for free tv and video on the web (that I can remember at 1:48 a.m.)
http://edition.cnn.com/ -News fix
http://www.homestarrunner.com/toons.html -Not tv or video per se, but strongbad email flash animations are a hoot and close enough
http://tv.yahoo.com/feature/supernatural.html -The show Supernatural online, although I haven't watched it yet. Featured on /.
http://www.atomfilms.com/ -Everybody knows this one; marginally good
http://video.freevideoblog.com/ -Alot of crap, the odd good video
http://video.google.com/ -Random
http://www.ifilm.com/ -See also atomfilms
http://www.newgrounds.com/ -Way cool, homepage worthy!
http://tv.reuters.com/ - more news video than cnn
http://www.rocketboom.com/vlog - ???, Profit! Actually, I don't know what to say
http://portal.omroep.nl/uitzendinggemist/ -Dutch TV up the wazoo
http://mediahopper.com/portal.htm -1041 tv stations from all over the world listed and ready to watch (as far as I can tell)
http://video.search.yahoo.com/ -Stuff n' things
http://www.youtube.com/ -People upload and share their videos online... you've been warned!
I should add everything here is "family friendly", as far as I'm aware: no porn, uberviolence or gratuitous advertising (if I've somehow overlooked something, I apologise). -
Must have good insurance (video)
Yeah, we Dutch have seen the commercial and now you can too:

Re:First hand story?
I dug up some data on this documentary:
translation of the subject of this weeks documentary from the zembla site:
Zembla folowed the makers of kazaa for a year, Edwin de metselaar, technical brain behind the software and niklas zenström the buisness leader. He realized that the record companies had to get negotiating or they would suffer the same fate as napster. However they were seued and he had to come up with a trick to keep the downloading posible.
Those who will not be able to watch the documentary (friday nederland 3 21:15 local time) will be able to get a wmf/ra stream at omroep.nl later (you should find a link at http://www.omroep.nl/vara/tv/zembla/ by then).
One of the really interesting things in the vara tv guide of this week is a story about the director of the documentary who folowed the kazaa people. Aperantly he first thought thay the were rebeling against the music industry but later learned they were "pirates with semi criminal behaviour" (the story is inderictly quoting one of the kazaa people with "in one year I will either have made it or be in jail" so the spyware must have paid off)
This story could really shed some light on this mystyrious group. -

Zembla( look under "volgende week" ), will do a documentory on the people behind kazaa on friday (nederland 3, in dutch (duh)), it will feature interviews and is likely to have some comments on these developments.

Re:When will get RDS in the US?
In the UK, we have a company called, suprisingly, Teletext that does the commercial teletext services on ITV (Ch. 3) and Channel 4. They may well do the services on Channel 5, but as anyone from the UK would tell you, no one watches Channel 5, so I can't tell you.
As well as doing their teletext services, they have a half decent web site, and promises of digital teletext, with, erm, pictures and stuff. Unfortunately, you can't actually get a digital teletext decoder yet, but that's a long (and extremely boring) story. Or maybe you can. I dunno, but these geeks can probably set you straight.
Do a search on, say, google for "teletext gateway" and you will find some services that provide teletext access via the web, such as this dutch site.

Dutch Teletext (for an example of teletext).

Dutch privacy law 101
Things have moved on in the Netherlands too since Pulp Fiction:
According to this (try Babelfish on it if you don't speak Dutch) some politicians are proposing to give police officers the right to do 'preventive searching' of visitors to bars and nightclubs. It's just an idea still, right now the police must have a strong suspicion (they will have to convince a judge that it was a reasonable suspicion) that someone carries a weapon or drugs before they can search him/her.
About privacy regulations: they are pretty cool around here: If I'm not mistaken, I can ask someone to remove information about me from their records, and they will have to comply unless they can give a valid reason why they wouldn't have to (for instance: a service contract for some product). And oh yeah, they will have to notify you when they store information about you! It makes tracking information about you a lot easier. Try this (and have your Babelfish ready) for the full text of the law on registration of personal information.
