An anonymous reader writes "PalmInfoCenter is reporting that Handango has released their 2005 Year End edition of the Handango Yarkstick. This is a general report on the mobile content industry including specifics from five of the top mobile operating systems; Blackberry, Palm OS, Symbian OS, Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone. The site also offers a comparison and look back at 2004's numbers for comparison. A copy of the original report [PDF] can be found on Handago's website."

Sammy at PalmAddict writes "Shadowmite, a Palm enthusiast has managed to hack his Palm One Treo 650 smartphone, enabling it to work with the Palm One WiFi card, despite Palm admitting the Treo was never designed to use WiFi technology. Shadowmite managed to get his hands on the Pa1m One WiFi card and modify it so that his Treo 650 could use it. The experiment was a success, and is causing quite a stir -- putting pressure on Palm One to provide support and fully support the new drivers."

just fiddling around writes "In a terse notice on their developer website, Sony electronics has announced that developer support for the Clie line of handhelds will be terminated on December 31st, 2004. This follows the June 2004 decision to suspend new Clie product development for the US and Europe while Sony 'reassesses the direction of the conventional PDA market.' Meanwhile, already subscribed developers can still access the developer resources provided by Sony. According to the PalmInfoCenter story Sony has pledged to 'continue the same level of service and support for Clie handheld users and to honor all existing limited warranties. The current Clie lineup is contining to be sold and supported while supplies last.'"

Thanks to an anonymous reader for pointing to the PalmInfoCenter article revealing new details and pictures of the Tapwave Zodiac handheld gaming device, ahead of the official unveiling on September 17th. According to the article, "The Zodiac will be based on Palm OS 5.2 and will feature a 3.8 inch diagonal 480 x 320 pixel screen, analog joystick navigation with integrated triggers and buttons, 3D graphics acceleration... and Bluetooth for multiplayer wireless gaming." The handheld "will... be able to run the already vast library of Palm OS software", and furthermore, "it will launch with between 15-20 games optimized for it [each costing around $30 each], including 'Neverwinter Nights,' 'Tony Hawk', 'Spy Hunter', and 'Doom II'". GoodThatWay.com has a few more details on the Zodiac, of which "a 32MB model will cost $299 and a higher end model with 128 MB of RAM will sell for $399."

securitas writes "In case you can't wait until September to find out what it's like, Walt Mossberg reviews the Sony Clie UX50 (as previously discussed). He likes it, but with reservations. The keyboard lacks predictive text (unlike the Handspring Treo and RIM BlackBerry) and the Clie Mail e-mail software can't read graphical e-mails and has poor attachment support. The audio player only reads files from a particular directory. He likes the 802.11b WiFi and loves the 450x320 screen. The biggest problem? The $700 price tag ($600 for the non-wireless UX40 model) - equivalent to a low-end laptop - especially since it doesn't come with a Memory Stick. If you can read it, here's a Japanese Clie UX50 review and PalmInfocenter press release rewrite."

webguru4god writes "Sony Japan has just released a killer new Clie, complete with integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a camera, in a small laptop-like enclosure. It runs Palm OS 5.2, has a 65,000 screen, and a built in keyboard! " I've always been a bit skeptical of handhelds that have flip out keyboards like this, but have repeatedly been impressed with the quality of various models of Clie. This might be worth a look.

Seems that "an interactive multiple player game system including at least two playing devices communicating over an ad-hoc, wireless, all-to-all broadcast network" is not 'obvious.' Dang, I was planning on writing one..."

Not to be released until the end of February, this one is packed with some long awaited features since the NX70V such as built in bluetooth and the 2 megapixel camera with flash. Is it really that great? Check out a couple reviews. It would be nice if they would include the faster (400 MHz) version of the XScale processor and step the internal memory up a bit, but this one carries an $800 price tag as it is." Even if it has issues, I think any step towards integrating the vast array of personal electronics (Cel Phone, MP3 Player, PDA, Digital Camera) is a good one. And this looks like the first PDA with a real camera.

Not a whole lot of information, but at least we know there's a new model on the way. I really like the current Zaurus, can't wait to find out all the details." An Anonymous Coward writes: "Palm Info Center reports that POSE (the Palm Os Emulator) has been ported to the Sharp Zaurus using the QTopia palmtop environment. See the QPOSE homepage for more information." This could make a Zaurus a much more attractive device to those of us with lots of important info on Palm Os devices, but according to other readers' submissions it does require a Palm ROM image to function.

Here's the FAQ; there are reviews and comments on PalmInfocenter and re-Visor.org. Speed appears to be an issue and everyone keeps suggesting Afterburner. And for the impatient, here's the Liberty download page. Update 3 hours later: Gambit says: "It has come to our attention that Liberty is having some problems with a number of devices (and many devices NOT having problems). Due to this we have decided to stop the download of this application until the problem is fully investigated and a solution is found." Oh well; ref. the first noble truth of the Buddha. Update another 3 hours later: OK, it's available again.

Thanks to Ian Hopper> for the current story on CNN about the Visor. Pictures-and in a very cool turn of events-two very cool peripheral ports in the back of the machine. It runs about 20% faster then the Palm III or V, 8 MB of RAM in the high-end version of the machine. Oh-and about 2/3 the cost of a Palm V. Joe Rumsey writes "Palm Infocenter reports that Peanut Press is selling books in electronic form. They are encrypted, and the reader currently only exists for Palm devices. The selection is not bad." Looks like a better idea than the SoftBook reader, which costs about as much as a Palm but is big and bulky -- and won't let you do anything but read books and magazines.
