Review Of The Sharp Zaurus 5000D
Tim_F writes: "Palmstation has a nice review of the recently available development release of the Sharp Zaurus 5000D. This device looks sweet, with QT Embedded, and Lineo Embeddix. It also features a full JVM based on JDK 1.1.8." Any readers out there who have managed to try one of these out as well? -

isaac writes: "The cat is out of the bag! Palmstation has photos of the new PalmOS pda from Handera (formerly TRG of TRGPro fame). Features include a 320x240 screen with "soft" grafitti area, CompactFlash *and* SD slots, and Voice Recording. No word yet on built-in RAM or other capabilities - an official launch at Handera's website is rumored for Monday. The alleged name of this device is the "HandEra 330". Wish they'd do something about the name." There's also a combination PDA/phone that looks interesting. -

3Com To Charge $20 For Palm OS 3.5
Alex Bischoff writes: "According to this NY Times Article, 3Com will release Palm OS 3.5 in the fall, but for about $20. 'Mr. Cook said that he had already heard grumbling from some Palm users about the upgrading fee and that some future releases might still be free.' ObCredit: PalmStation." (Free registration, worth every penny.) I wonder if this is a way to sell more (new) Palms? -
More on the Samsung Linux Handheld
Max von H. found the following on PalmStation: "It seems Samsung is about to ship out a Linux PDA this summer, and it will be called Yopy. Neat, isn't it? " A little slow link, but definitely more interesting then most of the other data on the Samsung devices we've seen in the past. It looks like it's mimicing a lot of the wince stuff... also appears to have a camera option. Nifty stuff tho. -
Linux on Palm
thppt writes "PalmStation is reporting that a company called OSK Inc has ported Linux to the Palm hardware platform; they're dubbing it as a kind of "LinuxCE". They have some screenshots of bootup, running apps, telnetting to the Palm, connecting to the Palm's web server, and multitasking. " They've actually got a WindStone ROM Image for evaluation on their web site. I haven't tried to download it yet, but has anyone else tried this? -

Hands on Review of pdQ Palm/Cellphone
hal-j writes "Ed Keyes, author of HackMaster for the Palm, has a hands on review of the way cool Qualcomm pdQ Palm/cellphone combo (which is now available)." For those who aren't paying attention, the pdQ is that half Palm III half Cell Phone mutant thing that actually looks quite interesting. Worth a gander. -

New Palm V and IIIx arrived in the stores!
Arrigo writes "Several people reported that the new Palm V and IIIx are available at some CompUSA stores. More details (and pictures!) at: Palmstation. Should I go get one? hmmmm... " Methinks my trusty old PalmPro is officially due to be replaced by a Palm V. Just gotta find one of these buggers now. -
Pictures of the Palm V
hal-j writes "check out this link for pictures of the new Palm V. They seem to be legit, as they jive with most of what I've heard about this unit (both officially and unofficially). Some interesting features include an enhanced screen, and 2 stylus silos. " My old Palm Pro keeps looking more and more old fashioned. Darn technology.
