Re:The budget isn't $82,000
What, have you never seen Star Wars Revelations? The actors in it weren't "horrific" at all, far from it, and neither was the script amateurish. And it's not a parody, which is the ONLY reason it never made it into Lucas' stupid official contest and won.

"No Luke" FTW
Not that I don't love the iconic characters from the OT, but this is exactly what I've been hoping to see in live action. If Star Wars Revelations is any indication, these kinds of stories could be done on a modest budget with talented and under utilized actors that could elicit the fan response of a Han Solo -ish character while staying low-key enough to allow viewers to be swept up into the absolutely huge and mysterious setting. I think it would be an absolute blast to throw some of the Empire's more obscure minions into the spotlight as a foil to some rebellious or independent spacers on the fringe (a la "Firefly"), similar to some of the plots in the old animated "Star Wars: Droids" from the 80s.

Re:Customers
I expect that ultimately customers will decide that DRM and related tech will fail. There will always be new companies and new products that can break into a market that is underperforming for people's needs and wants.
I expect, however, that the major content providers will be signing exclusive deals with DRM-enabled solutions, as they always tend to be easily convinced that DRM is the only way to go.
So the only way for a new company to come in and undercut them with a better, less annoying, non-DRM solution, will likely be to actually come up with new content. Will this mean that if we want to avoid DRM we'll be stuck watching low-budget, home-grown films??
Unless a major content provider suddenly grows a conscience and shows some interest in preventing the headaches that will come with hardware-enabled DRM, you can bet that it won't be a simple thing for a new company to come up with a more popular solution. -
Speedy
BitTorrent search however proves with first tests [that it is] as...Google...fast.
So fast that the browser times out on a search for "mozilla". Hopefully they'll get those kinks worked out soon. :-/
Bandwidth generously provided by Hot or Not
That explains everything. ;-)
Will he get sued?
I still think that anyone trying to sue Bittorrent or a generic search engine would have a hard time of it. Bittorrent has so many legal uses that it just isn't funny. Here's some example of legal torrents:
Privateer Remake
OpenOffice
Star Trek: New Voyages (legal fan made)
FreeBSD
Star Wars: Revelations (legal fan made)
Xandros Free Edition
Mozilla Firefox
Doom 3 Demo
America's Army (now for Linux and OSX)
I could go on, but I think you get the point. -
Wow
just will have to check them out when they are aired. Great news just after I watched the intro to Revelations.

After
After seeing the poster they did up for it, who cares what the actings' like? Those two women are hot, that third one in the upper-left...not so much.

Is Lucas aware of your film and isn't he going to sue the hell out of you?Answer:
For most people who do not understand fan films we get this question often .To answer, I doubt if Lucas himself has seen "Revelations". However ,Lucas is a large supporter for fan films, and is very kind enough to let other inspiring artists play in his backyard, as long as you don't try and make money from his hard work, and respectfully so."Revelations" is a non-profit film and everyone who worked on the film was a volunteer (no one was paid). The film itself will be availible free to download from TheForce.net and the "Revelations" website to anyone who wishes to watch it.
A great article put out by "Wired" covers some good ground about fan films and here is what Steve Sansweet (Lucasfilm's head of Fan Relations) had to say:
"There is plenty of room for fans to express their own feelings and opinions," Sansweet said. "We believe our core fans are responsible for the continuing popularity of the series, and we want to encourage them. Our intellectual properties are there for you to play with, but we expect you won't try and make a profit or use our characters in a salacious way. Having that wide-open frontier serves as a self-policing mechanism for the fans, who are really appreciative of being included."
"Sansweet added that Lucas believes fan films will grow more sophisticated as the amateur filmmakers gain new skills. "
