Re:Trash the X-box ... Starcraft 2 will be here so
I have already got one running Lincade. Between the cabinet, the Wells/Gardener 30" monitor and HAPP controls, I have got some serious $DOUGH$ invested in the hardware. No console runs these games like this, and even the coin slot works!

Re:Lots of usable tech hitting the dumpster....Even a lowly P4 2ghz isn't all that bad for just web surfing
My hard-core, purpose built gaming rig runs a 1.6G P4 with 384M of RAM. And when I say purpose-built, I mean it. HAPP controls and joysticks, tornado spinners, a 30" Wells/Gardener monitor with LinCade running xmame, it is amazing what you can do with old hardware.

The year was actually 2005
My hardcore gaming rig runs Lincade. We are talking serious commercial grade stuff here, HAPPS controls, Tornado spinners, and a 30" Wells/Gardner monitor in a SlickStik cabinet. If you are setting an arcade cabinet, make sure you get Lincade. There is no better gaming experience!

Re:For a really big trackball...
I used to have a similar setup on my cabinet (Mame32 on Win XP). Then my hard drive died and I installed Lincade on the new one. The performance blew XP away, and it handles all of the video modes of my Wells/Gardner arcade monitor and ArcadeVGA card nicely.

Re:Hmmm.
I had similar experiences. I have used both nVidia and ATI cards in my Linux boxes. While the nVidia cards were supported fine in all distros I used, the cards themselves kept frying and always had to be replaced. I replaced my fried BFG card with an ATI and it worked fine. On my arcade cabinet, I use an ATI based ArcadeVGA card to drive the Wells/Gardener arcade monitor, and it works fine with Lincade.

Re:Pay for nice wood
I got the slikstik too. Expensive but sweet. The W/G 9200 arcade monitor and arcadevga card were also musts, as well as the tornado spinner for Tempest. While I could have built the cabinet (I made everything from raised panel kitchen cabinets to bedroom furniture), setting up the controls to work well would have been a major project. So I bought cabinet from SlikStik, the monitor from W/G, and the arcadevga card, then installed Lincade. Truly sweet!
