Very small USB drive
I recently went to Malaysia and bought myself an iDisk Tiny. It try is small, not much bigger than two USB connectors. I wanted to find someone who sold it in Canada, or the USA, but not much luk yet.

Re:I don't want a disc 1cm larger than a CD!!!
An important question is why the hell does all of our media have to be huge?
Let me ask you two questions in return:
1. How many supersmall, tiny flash drives have you lost?
2. How many CDs/DVDs/other optical media have you lost?
12cm is a nice size to carry around with you, and it's harder to misplace.
Although having said that, I do own one of these - I keep it in the loose change section of my wallet xD -
Re:Leader of the pack, not
There is still support for floppy disks... no surprise here.
I once thought I could get away without 3.5 floppies anymore. I was wrong. Something always drags you back in the end. Flashing BIOS for instance.
Depends on the system I suppose. If your system supports being booted from a USB device, then you can use a USB Flash drive to do the same.
BTW if you really want an extra small flash drive, check out the iDisk Tiny from Pretec. -
Re:iDiskI agree that a tiny (keychain) USB drive would be useful, but I'm a bit worried about that product's lack of metal shield and case: does it stay in? Does it get crudded up?
Not quite as minimalist, but more ergonomic, and probably more durable are these products (which may be simply wrappers around the iDisk.):
- Pretec iDisk Tiny $40/128MB - $150/1GB
- Iomega MicroMini $16/64MB.

i'll be a proud owner..
.. not of PSP, but of GP32X of course [since its an extremely inexpensive open gaming system, ripe for hobby, potent new-market development], and i'll be bunging one of these babies in it which, fortunately for me, are not quite as expensive as the press releases parrot, at least not in decent bulk orders
.. a condition undoubtedly set to diminish, as the market floods with bigger and bigger SD cards.
so, i think its a bit passé to be cheery about this hard drive business on PSP. hard drives are terrible things to chuck around, and well .. no game machine worth its salt doesn't get chucked around, or at least thats the way i see game machines. i'd be happier if i could use SD in the PSP, natively, without requiring 3rd-party accessorization, anyway .. -
Re:At last...
No camera, but it does have an SD slot. So check out this.

Re:mp3 player
Google found some 1GB flash earrings.

Re:Style.. (slightly OT)
Check out pretec's tiny drives. Full marks for style and small enough for a keychain.

Re:It's called SmartMedia
Look at the TRGpro site where they have a page detailing why they went with CF instead of any of the other removable data/peripheral slots available. The basic problems with SmartMedia are: - it is ONLY usable for memory - it puts all of the i/o logic burden on the host device. - as it is basically a single flash chip in a fancy wrapper, it is limited to the maximum available size of flash chips. CF can be used for i/o peripherals as well as memory, it has a built in FAT file system on the card meaning that devices see it as a removable hard drive and you can stack multiple flash chips into a single card. Pretec are selling a 160MB CF card now and will have a 320MB card available early Q1 2000.

Good grief...
This is ridiculous. This memory stick thing will be the BetaMax of the flash industry...(although Beta was a superior technology).
The Memory Stick is currently available in 4MB, 8MB, and 16MB versions, and will soon have 32MB capacities. By the end of this year, Sony officials expect to ship a 64MB version that could hold about two hours of stereo music in "long play" mode, they said.
OK, let's get something straight--CF is smaller and Pretec has already announced--get this--a 128MB CF2 card and a 320MB CF2 (same size as IBM MicroDrive) card!!
Flash memory is used in small capacities in products like cell phones but is still relatively expensive. The 16MB Memory Stick, for instance, runs about $66.
Yeah, and I just bought two 16MB SmartMedia cards for my Rio from Diamond. Price? $89 for TWO!!!
Maybe they think they can push this memory stick thing with their lame cameras (the floppy-based ones were actually innovative, but who wants to carry around a box of floppies when you can use a single CF card?!) and their new desktop (which retails for only $2500, BTW) with the built-in memory stick "drive". But I say it's more dead-end tech.
Sony will never learn....
