Re:Who the fuck...
Try Dan Rather without the s. You'l get the idea
-
Re:Who did this damage more?Uh, yeah...that's the idea. The Republicans manufacture some patently obvious forgeries and let them "slip" into CBS's hands. Once they're proven to be fake, the Democrats get smeared. Nice tactic, eh?
Only on slashdot could this get an interesting. CBS had obviously forged documents. At least two "experts" they hired, told them the documents were questionable. Are you saying that CBS is so guilable that it was duped by the Republicans ? Dan Rather has been researching this story for FOUR YEARS. He has a huge grudge ever since VP George H Bush (The Father) embarrassed him during an interview. See This Page For some more backround.

www.RatherBiased.com"We watch FOX so you don't have to."
Another noteworthy site is http://www.RatherBiased.com. Their motto is "Watching CBS News so you don't have to".
:-)But seriously, I have been checking it out it daily since the whole MemoGate controversy erupted. The blog is on top of this story; the operator of the site appears to have a number of internal contacts within CBS News. It also has deep archives that go back years, detailing previous spats between Dan Rather and the Bushes.
Of particular interest to me was this interview with former CBS correspondent Bernard Goldberg, whose recent op-ed in the Wall Street Journal is also an informative read.

They've been there even before Rathergate. -
Instapundit hands down
Instapundit is hands down my go-to political weblog.
It offers a nice round-up of links from the blogosphere, along with the his own commentary.
It's run by Glenn Reynolds, a University of Tennessee law professor, and social liberal, everything else conservative.
The beauty of blogs is that Bias is readily apparent, and seldom denied, unlike oh, say, some cats in the mainream media. -
Andrew Sullivan != Conservative, but here are someThere was a time when Andrew Sullivan could have conceivably been labeled a conservative, but it's passed. Sullivan's analysis of the war on terror used to be interesting, but since he become a single interest voter over the issue of gay marriage, it's colored the rest of his thinking and writing. These days he's probably best described as an "angry moderate."
If you really want to read a high-quality conservative blog, here are two from National Review Online:
- The Corner, a braided-blog with constributions by many of NR's writers, run by Kathryn Jean Lopez, and
- The Kerry Spot, penned by Jim Geraghty, whichs follows Kerry and his campaign closely, as well as related subjects. (The Kerry Spot was one of the best sites to follow for updates on Rathergate.
- Instapundit
- Little Green Footballs
- http://www.allahpundit.com/
- Rather Biased, which perked back to life after the scandal broke.
- http://www.rathergate.com/, which sprang into being shortly after the scandal broke
- http://www.indcjournal.com/
- Finally, although I'm less of a regular reader, it was a poster on Free Republic who first broke the story.
Well, that should get you started. in truth, except for the NR blogs, I was only an occasional readers of the others before the Rathergate story broke, but now I'm much more of a regular reader, much to the detriment of my productivity...

Interesting discussion with typewriter web sites
RatherBiased.com, an anti-Dan Rather blog has an interesting discussion with two guys who run web sites legacy typewriter web sites. They seem pretty convinced the CBS papers were not typed up on a 70's typewriter.

Re:Right wing?
I think this is the first time that I've ever seen CBS News, home of Dan Rather, called "right-wing"
Someone whose politics lie somewhere to the left of Lenin would be likely to make that mistake. This site is a fair bit closer to the truth.
(/me awaits the Troll/Flamebait down-mods from the Slashbots...fsck 'em.)

Re:What a useful articleHave we got another pattern here, Chris?
Is this the same guy that attacked Dan Rather on the street?

Why pick on FOX?
Lots of news outlets are biased. The major ones have been biased toward the left for years. Check out Rather Biased to see some of the ultra-Leftist things that the Leftist Dan Rather has said, many of which have been said as if they were objective reporting. The New York Times, considered the "most respectable" newspaper in the country, has some of the most Leftist slant of any.
So why are you picking on Fox? There are many well-established Leftist mouthpieces which masquerading as objective reporting for decades that you could have chosen. -
Perspectives
From my POV (I am in the UK) all american news media is right wing.
From my point of view, all UKers fall somewhere between socialist and communist. Then again, sweeping generalizations like mine and yours are not very helpful.
Fox news is so right wing it is like a parody.
Oh, it can get much worse than the Fox news channel. Take, for example, WorldNet Daily or Newsmax.com, which make a point of headlining stories about Christian persecution and how Darwinism is being refuted. Hell, it can even get worse than that. Perhaps check out the Hal Turner Show.
For that reason I am always amazed to see some people claim CNN is "liberal".
CNN is pretty fair, though I've never heard them criticize a government program. Dan Rather is a much better example of Leftist bias in American media.
Can you US guys get Euronews (satellite news tv channel)? I wonder what you make of it in comparison to your home grown news channels.
Let me guess: "America is the source of all the world's problems. The Government is the solution to all the world's problems. Individality must be suppressed. The Government is the source of morality. Capitalism is evil. There is nothing wrong with communism; the problems have only been in its implementations." Did I get it right?

Re:US / Leftist politics
You must be smoking crack. Do you make this up as you go along?
the U.S. of the cold war was strikingly similar to the U.S.S.R. It is safe to say that they were rivals (for oil, mostly) instead of enemies.
The Russians have far bigger reserves, for one. For two, I could get blue jeans. Russians couldn't.
BTW, there are very few "capitalist" countries left in the world.
True.
After 1929, everyone pretty much understood that "pure" capitalism didn't work.
Who's everyone? They didn't teach this in either econ or poly sci. In fact, the U.S. track history since FDR has shown that government consistently screws things up more than it helps.
So most industrialized countries now have mixed economies - the sad thing is that the U.S. forces its client nations to adopt the capitalist models and therefore become markets for american goods, even though it also ensures that their economy won't develop normally..
Who are these 'client countries' and who's forcing them to adopt capitalism? Surely you're not talking about any Western Hemisphere nations, they're all either Communist (Cuba, Nicaragua) or Socialist (the rest of them.)
Abroad, the only countries we've helped set up governments have been Germany and Japan, countries with strong socialist undertones that have economic problems BECAUSE OF THEIR SOCIALIST TENDENCIES.
Read a fucking book and stop listening to Dan Rather. Idiot.
"Freedom is not empowerment. Empowerment is what the Serbs have in Bosnia. Anybody can grab a gun and be empowered. It's not entitlement. An entitlement is what people on welfare get, and how free are they? It's not an endlessly expanding list of rights - the 'right' to education, the 'right' to health care, the 'right' to food and housing. That's not freedom, that's dependency. Those aren't rights, those are the rations of slavery - hay and a barn for human cattle." - P.J. O'Rourke -
Re:Govt. should NOT be paying for this
When was the last time you heard a pro-life argument on NPR? How about an opinion piece arguing against gun control? I have never heard either although I have heard many with the opposite views. Bill O'Reilly has said that he could not find one NPR station that would allow him to come on and promote his book. Now, I don't particularly care of O'Reilly, but he is a pretty popular figure. I guarantee NPR would be begging Dan Rather to come on and promote his book. I'm not the only one suggesting that NPR slants to the left. There was recently a debate in the House as to "whether the taxpayers should continue to subsidize NPR's left-wing propaganda".
It is my belief that most major television news channels, including the major networks, are slanted left. Bernard Goldberg recently explored this in his book. I think that FOX news is relatively unbiased. They always seem to attempt to present both sides of an issue. CNN has gotten much better also, they probably felt pressure by FOX's surge in the ratings. -
Re:Afghan TV Guide
Here is a link if you want to buy the tape of the interview:
http://www.c-spanstore.com/752.html
Here is a link to a web site claiming to show how biased Rather is against G Bush (senior):
http://www.ratherbiased.com/bush_george.htm
I wonder who backs them.
The main point I remember in the "argument" between the two was the Bush got so aggravated by Rather's questioning that he brought up an incident when Rather stormed off the set of the evening news (during a technical glitch) and thus produced four minuted of "dead air". At the time, I thought it was a very unpresidential retort.
I got a sense of deja vu when a pre-presidential G. W. Bush made some comments to Dave Letterman about his heart surgery, which GWB thought was QUITE funny. (compassionate conservatism, my ass) -
Dan Rather is a puppet of the Liberal Left
See this link.
I don't normally suggest government cencorship but the fact that this guy is even allowed on the air makes me ashamed to be American. He has distorted the facts and lied about Republicans so many times that I have lost count. Therefore part of the "joke" is that he is the Taliban's favorite broadcaster. -
Just heard on CBS...
Bush is sweeping through the South like a tornado through a trailer park.
God I love Dan Rather, no other anchor has the balls to say weird shit like that...

Bush's assertion: there ought to be limits to freedom
