Re:How to get it in future? Where is it lodged?
Also there is more information as to why libreboot left the GNU. From their site - 'Libreboot left GNU on 2016-09-15, in protest of transgender discrimination at the FSF'.
Having read it... That's... an interesting interpretation of events. You'll note the complete lack of evidence in it? That's important.
Here's what actually happened, based on what evidence I could find. Leah Woods is a SJW who had a fit because of some made up bullshit that boils down, like all made up SJW bullshit, to "Open Source is a meritocracy, but we still want special treatment."
Here's a well sourced discussion on it on Kotaku In Action, the GamerGate reddit board:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Kotak...And some discussion over on reddit's linux board:
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux...Basically, Leah Rowe had a fit because the FSF parted ways with a transgendered employee.
Leah makes the unfounded claim that the FSF did this because the person has a mental illness (gender dysphoria / gender identity disorder), because someone wrote criticism of said person with mental illness which looked bad on the FSF, etc. She provides no evidence of these VERY specific claims.
http://archive.is/iXIbcThe FSF make a statement on 9/16 pointing out that they have a strong anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policies, as well as a so called "safe space policy" at FSF events. In other words, they have already capitulated to all the standard Regressive Leftist demands. They deny the accusation and say the person with mental illness was terminated for other reasons.
https://archive.is/HGLMaLeah specifically follows up this claim here, changing her claim to a different claim that two FSF employees were "transphobic" and "bullying" this mentally ill developer. She namedrops these two people, but refuses to namedrop the supposed victim, believing they deserve protection from any criticism or questioning of these claims. Note that this apparently does not apply to the two men she is accusing without any form of evidence of unprofessional and possibly illegal behavior.
https://archive.is/7cXtw#selec...She follows this up with more increasingly unhinged spam and unfounded accusations. She ignores, bans, or curses out people requesting evidence or disputing her one woman lynch mob. She posts an unhinged screed on her website showing she has little to no understanding of open source, all while repeating the same unfounded claims, as well as claiming martyrdom on her part.
https://archive.is/JmiTGIt's important to note that libreroot is a fork of Coreboot and being part of the GNU project means it was posted under an open source license. Which means someone could easily fork it again and put it BACK in the GNU project. Of course, proving she doesn't understand the first thing about open source, she specifically wants people NOT to do that. I suggest the name cisLibreBoot, because it seems the most amusing name possible.
Fortunately, the GNU mailing list appears to basically shut her histrionics down fairly quickly:
http://archive.is/di974In addition, it's important to realize the unhinged professional victimhood martyrdom ravings of Leah Rowe, which are REMARKABLY similar to other social justice activists such as Brianna Wu or Nora Reed, don't actually represent the Libreroot community. See, it turns out, what she did was steal access to the main repository and lock out everyone else, all while making her unhinged, evidence-free stat

Re:Intentional ignorance
JFC your grasp of thermodynamics is weak.
you may not notice your room heating because it's not a perfectly enclosed system. it has substantial losses to the surrounding house via convection.
the earth in contrast is much closer to the ideal enclosed system for the same reason that heat sinks don't work very well in space: no convection.
note however that in fact burning a candle in your living, if it were sealed and approximated an enclosed system, would in fact warm it measurably.
because thermodynamics.some of these folks were kind enough to actually do some of the thermo math and work it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/asksc... , but the gist is, yes, actually, a candle can raise the temp of your room by roughly 1 degree, which is a significant or measurable amount.
similarly the human output of CO2, which is over 40 billion tons annually, does has a measurable impact despite its relatively small proportion of the atmosphere, in no small part due to a positive feedback loop involving water vapor (increase temp a lil bit via co2, more h20 in air, which is also a GH gas, which causes more warming, which causes more h2o in the air, which causes more warming....until the system reaches equilibrium and the warming stops...which right now cannot happen because were are still pumping several orders of magnitude more CO2 and methane into the atmosphere than the planetary system is capable of adjusting to.)
further readings: "It's only a trace gas."
Also note, that you are actively choosing to side with a nuclear physicist in the belief that he knows more bout climate science than actual climate scientists.
Do you also then get home repair quotes from your car mechanic, or vice versa? How about heart surgery from a pediatrician? Steak tartare from your plumber? How deep does your silliness of valuing non-subject-matter-experts over subject-matter-experts go? -
Re:Neal Stephenson continues to amaze
I still find myself wondering why the spaceborn had to drop comet cores on Earth...I just don't understand where he thought the water that boiled would go.
That's my whole problem with the book — it is just too implausible (not just from physics perspective, but all around) and leaves too many questions. Sure, some of his other stuff — like Anathem, which I loved — is only less plausible, but it does not pretend, whereas the SevenEves is firmly in the uncanny valley of plausibility.

Re:So medium is now a small?From here:
This s:Linux:GNU/Linux:g meme has got to die. There is no such thing as a 'GNU/Linux kernel module'.
Christ man even RMS himself gets annoyed when people just randomly starting inserting 'GNU' where it has no meaning because it means they don't understand why he uses the term 'GNU/Linux' and what he uses it for.
Look at the FSF pages, you will see the term "Linux" being used unwaveringly when referring to the kernel. Not 'The Linux kernel' just 'Linux'
This is a kernel module that exposes a character device /dev/heart, reading from it produces binary audio data. GNU has nothing to do with this. -
Yay, more fraud!
Great, so we can look forward to more great Amazon sellers like this guy. Don't worry though, Amazon will refund the money of the dozens of people affected (after an investigation and after your funds have been held up for possibly months depending on when you figure out the seller is fraudulent).
The best part is where they still need to "investigate" each case even though dozens of people have the same issue, and there's even a fricking Reddit thread about the scammy seller.

Re:Avoid Sling
. If you tried to tune into a sports channel that had a game you wanted to see, you wouldn't accept it if the streaming service told you that the game was not available but they had a small set of recorded games from 2014 that you could watch
Hmmm. Was going to go pick up Sling this evening, but this was the exact use-case I was thinking of.
Supposedly, you CAN use Sling to watch NBC Sports live sports channels. I assumed that included the ability to stream NBC Sports Live Extra online (or from mobile devices). It requires login credentials from a provider to do so, where currently I'm supplying my Cox credentials.
Looking a bit more online, I'm seeing someone saying Sling can't do that, but you can do that with PlayStation's VUE. Any comments from someone who's actually tried this?

Re:Good for them
Some people see books as the central repository of human knowledge and culture. They believe that books are our history; the thing that will one day resurrect civilisation if we accidentally wipe it out. And also the final thing we leave behind, a form of immortality even as our bodies perish. _That's_ your motivation: they have a deep love and respect for books and don't want them to be destroyed.
They are the people who lovingly collected a copy of every single book in Skyrim, possibly for each of their mansions just to be safe. They don't play the game for exploring dungeons or exterminating dragons or whatever, they just go around collecting books and building up libraries: https://www.reddit.com/r/skyri...
Those people come up with schemes for ensuring books remain in the collection, stacking them two rows deep or storing them off-site in a locker they pay for by themselves if that's what it takes. For them books don't need motivation; books are motivation.

Re:Credibility
This ignores the fact that it is a *wall* of air with literally miles and miles (i.e. tons and tons) of air behind it. If the air isn't traveling at 600+MPH, it will be relatively incompressible. If it *is* traveling at 600+ MPH and the car traveling at around the same speed, it will be somewhat compressible but I suspect the deceleration forces would still be extreme.

Women respond better when you take their concerns seriously...
Some concerns are more concerning than others. If you've got a legitimate gripe about the way things are going in life, put your head on my shoulder and have a good cry; talk it out. Life gets crazy sometimes -- we all get that. But, if you're manufacturing short-circuited righteous indignation, as the OP was likely referring to, I think you need to be called out on your shit. No one should take anything like that seriously, other than as a serious indication that the concerned individual needs to rethink their purpose in life. Or, get help.

Re:Who? What?
Correct. GamerGate started with calling out Nathan Grayson and later Kotaku for defending him, but it later descended into a surreal disinformation campaign when the "progressive" games media like Kotaku baited the Social Justice hashtagtivists into a frenzy with some ridiculous harassment conspiracy. From then on, everyone rode the confirmation bias train right to this day.
All the outrage is simply the result of a few disingenuous people abusing the goodwill people have towards liberal values and the opinion innerta about sexism which hasn't caught up with the 21st century. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the likes of Quinn and Wu recieved some mean Twits, but nothing out of the ordinary for being complete assholes on the Internet.
At any rate, the GG hashtag was predominantly about journalism, and later about defening GamerGate from the moral panic. Nowdays, it's spiritual successor is mostly about Social Justice Warriors.

Re:What I love
You should check out the gamergate page. Not only have dozens of editors been banned for edit warring, but the entire thing is a complete mess where even factual information is removed because it's contrary to the people who are pushing a narrative.[...] It's pretty sad when "know your meme" and "encyclopedia dramatica" have more factual articles.
Direct links for the lazy:
That's the same article where a dozen hardcore feminists were banned for edit warring,
Oops, you believed the Guardian. It's a common mistake. What actually happened was that one feminist editor Ryulong was banned after he was caught begging for money from the activist group GamerGhazi which was formed by Reddit's SRS clique to suppress the spread of information about Gamergate. That's like asking for money from the Trump campaign after changing the name of Hillary Clinton to "Lying Hillary." They were still going to let him off the hook but Ryulong acted like a total ass on the last few days of the arbitration case so one or two of the votes flipped.
Every other hardcore feminist editor got away with it. Then the admins took vengeance for their friend Ryulong by instantly banning anybody who reported the misbehavior of any of the hardcore feminist editors in any other area of the wiki. They also took out a bunch of the Japanese editors who tried to correct Ryulong's misspellings where this white fanboy had made himself Wikipedia's final judge of Japanese spelling and grammar and had previously banned anyone who disagreed with him. When Gamaliel got elected to the Arbitration Committee a year later, ArbCom quickly banned two prominent editors who had presented evidence against Gamaliel during the Gamergate case, Cla68 and The Devil's Advocate, without presenting any justification for either ban. It was straight out of Kafka.
Some people still mistakenly think that the adults will take charge if you stay calm and reasonable and don't break the rules. That has been tried and results in a quick and permanent ban. Explaining your own position is "soapboxing" and "beating a dead horse" and is grounds for a ban. Having strong sources to support your position makes you a "POV-pusher" who is "not here to build the encyclopedia", which justifies a permanent ban. Presenting evidence of rulebreaking by the admins is "trolling" and "sockpuppetry" and merits an instant ban, and they are likely to remove your comments and insult you on the way out. If you try to appeal your ban on the grounds that you never broke any policy, your appeal will be rejected and you are likely to have your talk page access revoked. You are required to confess to sins you have not committed and proclaim that the admins are correct in policy when they are not. The place is run by completely irrational people who belong in an insane asylum.

Hmm, so who has more facts here?
> Everything else you wrote is bullshit conspiracy theory
Everything else? Not going to be specific, just going to write off everything?
I said we don't know who killed him and why. Surely you're not actually contradicting that part? Look at the police report, there's just not much there.
Are you contradicting the part where I said there are security cameras in the area? Here's a nice list of them and maps. You can walk all around Flagler Place & W St. NW and look at them if you want. The linked thread has a picture of each one. Feel free to post your own photos showing the cameras aren't where they are shown to be.
Now if you're saying the killer(s) were found on camera, contrary to what I said above, well, the only source I can find claiming that is Fox News and there's been nothing public about it since then as far as I know. Should I be taking their word for it? Is that the point you want to argue?
I can go over DKIM cryptography if you want or pull the keys for you directly from the relevant DNS servers (they're still there... for now). Anyone who tries to tell you they've modified those has apparently hacked both Google and Hillary, or broken DKIM's cryptography. Do you need a lesson in exactly how to pull the keys from the DNS servers? Would you like to look at the RFC? Should we discuss what non-repudiation means and why it's important here?
But it's probably the Wikileaks thing, right? All I've said is "this is what Wikileaks said and why." I can only really go on what they've said, which is that they don't know who their sources are exactly. This implies that the only way they know a source is gone is that they cannot contact them any longer. There are surely many ways for this to be purely coincidental and I've said as much. But that puts you in the position of not disagreeing with something I said, but something I said someone else said. And they certainly did say what they said, you can go read it on the Wikileaks Twitter account if you wish.
Perhaps you are you disagreeing with the parts where I said Clinton didn't actually lie? You weren't very specific, you know. I pretty much have to guess here.
So please identify the specific item(s) you're disagreeing with here. I have specific, public sources that I have linked to. And if you're going to natter on about conspiracies based on "literally no evidence" please actually talk about the evidence I have presented instead of pretending you can't see it. Or make sure you disagree with claims I've actually made, not something someone else said.
As you may note, my posts above did not say that Clinton did anything to Seth Rich, nor have I alleged any direct evidence thereof, I just pointed out that people, like Wikileaks, have been suspicious, which is demonstrably true however much you hate them for it.

The December 9th patch - https://support.microsoft.com/... - might contain some kind of fix or workaround, although I don't see anything mentioned on the page which maps to the issue.
Microsoft is keeping customers up to date with a page on its support forum. Here's Microsoft's short link to the page: https://aka.ms/netcom

Re:Moral Lecturing by Hipster Douchebags
First, there are only two genders. Male. Female. Sorry, but it's true. No amount of Tumblr post-modernist claptrap will ever change that.
Second, yes, SRS is blatantly a downvote / harassment group. Even the CEO admits this. You can try and crybully all you want, but you just flat out stated it: SRS is a place people can attract attention to posts they disagree with so people can (wink wink) be mad and (nudge nudge) nothing else. So it's obviously just a cooooincidence when SRS or one of it's sub-groups links to a post and suddenly the thread is filled with shitheels from SRS harassing people and downvoting things into oblivion.
But it's OK, because they had the wrong opinions, and after all, SRS and the Regressive Left trolls that inhabit it have truly golden morality that we all must accept as perfect truth. Or else.
And that's not getting into some of the other shitty things SRS has done - the doxing, the taking over of other subs just to destroy them (like the attempted coup of meirl a few months back, heck I just checked and one of them has over 60 subs under his control, and another has several hundred), the use of bots to auto-downvote and harass people...
Lets be frank. If The_Donald did half of what SRS does every single day they would be shut down and absolutely no one would be able to defend them. But Regressive Leftist subs like SRS, Drama, etc get a pass because they share some of the same politics as the admins. It's an open joke that a group of no life losers can hang out in IRC and brigade on reddit all day and never, EVER face consequences.

Re:alt-white
Here's the thing... alt-right is not a formal organization with dues and ID cards. The phrase doesn't even have a clearly defined meaning. There are lively debates going on about that right now. As far as I can tell, it refers to everyone willing to entertain right-leaning ideas that Bill Buckley condemned.
Here is one discussion on reddit's
/r/The_Donald: https://www.reddit.com/r/The_D...Basically, whenever the media doesn't like someone, they associate that person with David Duke. Not because anyone knows or cares what David Duke thinks, but because he's the go-to monster. But he's getting old, losing his smear value. Enter Richard Spencer... tomorrow's media boogey man.
A good fraction of Trump's voters are not ordinary conservatives, they are alt-right. That's hundreds of thousands of people at the least, and probably into the tens of millions. Compare that to the dozens of people at that conference.
So, while virtually everyone at that conference was alt-right, 99.99% of the alt-right was not there, and has no idea who Richard Spencer is.
I consider myself to be alt-right and have been for years, and if it wasn't for people condemning the actions at this conference, I probably never would have heard of this guy.
But as long as we are tarring whole groups with the brush of the craziest members contained in that group, we should probably have a chat about how the all Democrats are cop killers. Right? Right?

Re:And what else?
I briefly followed GG (as a casual observer). Is there a 'where are they now, 2 years later' post? It seems everyone forgot about gaming when Trump started running for president.
You can check the timeline on one of the GG wiki's this is the one on KiA. You can also check the catalog for the GG thread on 8ch.net/v/(somewhat comprehensive moves fast) or 8ch.net/gamergatehq/(lot of information moves very slow) Lot of people are still there, but GG itself is in a holding pattern because nearly everything that was wanted, was gained. Now it sits waiting for the next outbreak. Though some people have moved from gaming to the media at large, and that's only a good thing. The vast majority of sites now have a ethics and guidelines policy. One of the big things GG wanted. The sites that were shit are gone, or continue to have declining numbers. The small sites they promoted as alternatives like techraptor and nichgamer have both recently broken the top 1k sites in the world.
