Enough said - it's nice that someone is trying to do something, and I'm sure the guy is good-intentioned - but pretty much all the experts said this would happen and the resources would be better spent elsewhere.
Not sure if you're going for "flamebait" or "idiot" mod. points, but of all Western European and North American countries, England (but not the UK) is probably the worst example of a (potential) Islamic country, since it's the only one where Christianity is the state religion and the ruling head of state (monarch in the case of the England) is also the head of the church. Sometimes overlooked is the fact that the CofE is also head of the Anglican church worldwide, rather like the Pope for the Catholics.
Contrast this to France, where the (republication) state expressly forbids alignment of state with religion, or even expressions / symbols of faith in public life, (a ban frequently flouted by all side, admittedly). Note that the % people declared practising Islam in both countries is a very scary.....5% In the USA of course, the danger is even more acute;)
France : 51% Christians, 5.6% Islam England : 59% Christians, 5% Islam USA: 74% Christians, 0.8% Islam
Well, the OP was pretty wild, for sure, but you're not exactly bang on target either:
1. Most private automobiles are driven at light load and part throttle most of the time, 2. But people like good power for acceleration / overtaking safely and top speed (where allowed) 3. Making high-displacement engines fuel efficient and therefore low-emissions is hard; (for certain types of emissions) 4. Making small, forced-induction engines give plenty of power when required, but consume not much the rest of the time is expensive, but doable
(But note the special case of blown 2-strokes, where they've never been able to fix the oxides of nitrogen problem; shame, they're fun to drive...)
Hence the trend towards smaller-capacity, forced-induction engines, which go fine when you rev them, but to my mind don't give the same overall driving satisfaction as a big old V8; especially a forced-induction big old V8, but that's another story...(disclaimer: my daily driver is a CL55)
Waitaminute....I'm a supporter of nuclear power, but this is going a little far...
"We're seeing nuclear power plants built into warships, that's how well they hold up in war..."
Urm, nope. We have no experience - none - of a nuclear-powered warship getting hit by sophisticated enemy weapon, such as anti anti-ship missile. Like any other ship, the results of a decent hit would be catastrophic since there's no space on carriers for massive concrete containment nor yards of armour plate.
But I'm skeptical, as are some of the experts cited in the BBC article, I mean the GPGP is really, really big - 1.6 million square kilometers. Gonna take a lot to clean that up...
I used to use Skype (personal) and at one of my clients occasionally have to use the "business" app. Both are fairly horrible, and voice quality can be very variable, even on MegaCorp's private network.
My extended family and friend network abandoned Skype years ago, with most now using WhatsApp, which works really well.
So, fiddle around with the UI if you like MS, but you should fix the call quality first
First, it's Russian Roulette, due to the lack of safety culture. (Note: I've worked at NASA.)
Which NASA did you work for?
The NASA that put man on the moon when it was run by Germans / ex-Nazis?
The NASA that then went to hell with the hopeless Shuttle program, once the politicians took over (both inside and outside NASA)
The NASA who's safety "culture" was panned following BOTH the Challenger and Columbia disasters; especially the later which basically proved they'd learned nothing, changed nothing, fixed nothing since killing the Challenger crew through bad design and lousy management.
That's the entire point unfortunately, MS goes to extradinary lengths to ensure nothing will ever threaten truly be able to be compatible with their formats...including launching their own "standards"...that's what Libre and Google should concentrate on, rather than adding point less features that 90% of users never need or even understand. Can open and modify a simple "word" document, fine...people will get over the UI differences... Cannot open a PPT or PPTX that your boss has stuffed some weird animations in using MS PowerPoint, bam, your shiny new competitor is dead.
he Merah Putih satellite launched Tuesday will provide C-band telecommunications services over Indonesia and India. The new telecom craft was built by SSL in Palo Alto, California.
SSL completed construction of the Merah Putih satellite ahead of schedule, according to Telkom Indonesia, also known as PT Telkom. The new satellite will replace Telkom 1, which failed in a mysterious debris-shedding event in geostationary orbit last year.
Officials from Telkom Indonesia expected the Telkom 1 satellite, which launched in 1999, to remain operational until Merah Putih’s launch. But Telkom 1’s failure last year forced the operator to re-route communications traffic through other satellites.
The Merah Putih satellite is designed for a 16-year life, its owner said in a statement. The spacecraft will be positioned in geostationary orbit more than 22,000 miles (nearly 36,000 kilometers) over the equator at 108 degrees east longitude.
Although China has signed the UN convention on not producing weapons "intended to blind", I'm guessing that means "as their primary function", since all bigger lasers (included ones fielded by the USA) can burn through solids, so can sure toast your retina in a heartbeat.
These smaller "rifles" would be useless against a well-equipped conventional military force; while you're trying to burn them somewhere (at a 100 yards) they've already shot your balls off at 150...
It's not "the UK" and it's not a "national database" seemingly run by the Gov. or the police. It is a private site, run by a private dashcam company, that just redirects you to the individual police force pace, (England and Wales only, so if it's Scotland or NI you're looking for then you're SOL).
They are nice-enough to state in their T&Cs that "You may be use [sic] the NDSP to upload footage from any dash cam, action camera, mobile phone or any other type of camera from any manufacturer."
I bloody well should think so, since they're just linking through to the cops own sites!
NASA’s newest experimental aircraft, designed with quiet supersonic technology and intended to help open a new era in faster-than-sound air travel over land, will forever be known in the history books as the X-59 QueSST. The U.S. Air Force, which is the government entity responsible for assigning X-number designations and the popular name associated with the aircraft, officially informed NASA of their decision on June 26.
“For everyone working on this important project, this is great news and we’re thrilled with the designation,” said Jaiwon Shin, NASA’s associate administrator for aeronautics. “I’m confident that the contributions the X-59 QueSST will make to our nation and the world will ensure its place among the greatest NASA X-planes ever flown,” Shin said.
Great list; mod up!

Not many, but theyâ(TM)re easy to fix compared to a CD player

For those of you who don't get it.....

At least we used to...
"fork over" data (meaning to hand over in large quantities, I guess?); who says that?
Now, forking banks, that's an idea...
But I assume that would be fairly straightforward once they've done the video...

Thanks; very interesting - shows that the only two "green" countries in Europe are:
1. Norway (the place was designed by God for hydro, it would appear), and
2. France, which is pretty-much all nuke.
So, if you're not Norway....
Sure the Atlantic can be a tough place, but 79 days?
Single-handed (human) record is 3 1/2 days...

I think the mod system works OK; there's always enough sane people with points to mod.the dumbasses down.

I wonder how many drones Burt Rutan could punch out for that kind of money....a lot more than 72 I'm guessing

Are Android and other mobile OS not an encryption concern for LEO?
They don't have any Android phones in Low Earth Orbit; couple of iPhones on the ISS, I hear...
