Not CMYK, Something SimplerYeah, but can you draw a circle? You can follow these directions, and even they require you to create a new image to make the circle, wherein you get to guess about how big the circle needs to be on the original image, so you can cut and paste it there after you're done following the five or six steps it took to make a circle.
I know GIMP isn't supposed to be everything to everyone, so it's not fair to say "Well program X can do it, so why can't GIMP?!?!?"* But seriously, should it be this hard to make a freaking circle?
*BTW, "program X" in this example is MS Paint. -
Re:I doubt itSeems like one could make a service which tells you how "musical" your music is. Just take the FLAC compressed size/the original size * 100 and output that is the music's "quality rating".
;)So, what would that tell you about Philip Glass?
Conversely, Metal Machine Music is THE BEST MUSIC EVER!

Re:How lightweight, if it requires gtk+?
What do you want a graphical login manager for? Use xdm for that..."
Fair question to ask. After all, xdm is bundled with XFree86/Xorg, right?
Well, therein lies the rub for me. It is a barebones login manager. Having to type the login/password day in and day out (sometimes, several times a day) became rather tedious. Others have shared a simlilar sentiment.
All I want is to have something comparable to the MS Windows login experience, where the only information that needs to be filled in is the password.
To be sure, there is a solution that addresses the blandness of xdm. However, aesthetics is not the only reason I switched to kdm.
...and gaim for IM...
Well, I have not used the suggested client in a while. It is quite likely that enhancements have been made to improve the quality of the product. Its unreliablity during its infancy was the reason I switched to kopete. It will take some doing for me to abandon my new client of choice.
That said, if this KDE integration madness continues, I may have to drop it. Why? Having to spend hours compiling packages simply because I want to install an IM client is not how I choose to amuse myself.
In fact, this integration is rapidly becoming a pet peeve of mine. It has become rather annoying to use the Ximian Edition of the OpenOffice.org suite. The product has been robbed of its rather appealing look in Gentoo because of the KDE integration that happens by default. I will experiment with the USE="-kde" flag to see if that helps. -

Re:They've finally done it...
I forgot to mention, in addition to the OTP RFC, there is a whole host of other information related to OTP and the WebOdor initiative.
-
Re:They've finally done it...I want to make sure these odor output devices are interoperable. What is Microsoft ends up locking up the market with some sort of proprietary system? What if they deliberately rework Windows to make competing devices smell like shit?
Thankfully, there's an RFC for a truly open protocol: the Olfactory Transport Protocol (OTP). Hopefully, people will use it.

Re:Much Needed Improvements
I haven't tried using a Wacom tablet myself, but I noticed that this FAQ
points to some information. See question 18.

Re:wtf
I wasn't aware you could sue someone for using a mark that was partially similar to your own trademark.
Happens all the time. Don't go sticking an "R Us" onto the tail end of your business name.

Motivation, not objects
For me, the way to get into the zone is to have a good definition of the problem I'm solving and to have an immediate deadline (positive deadlines work, too; e.g., "finish this by five and you get an extra $250"). If I've got those two things, I can work while sitting on a bed of nails, with a strobelight behind my head and a copy of Metal Machine Music blaring over the speakers, with my feet soaking in a tub full of piranha and electric eels. You should try it sometime; it's exhilirating.

Re:What no Source?
What the hell?! I spent countless hours trying to get Gimp Perl to work for an industrial application. I needed to batch process and manipulate a ton of images for a print project. It turns out that Perl for Gimp 1.0.x is not terribly supported, while Gimp 1.1.19 was just too damn unstable. After much experimentation, frustration, trial and error: the only conclusion was that as it currently stands... Gimp sucks.
Now I hear about this!! How is it being done? Does the guy have his own custom-hacked version of Gimp? So why aren't the modifications being redistributed under the GPL?
I ended up using ImageMagick. I'd still rather be using the (promised) power and flexibility of Gimp, but ImageMagick actually works without dumping lots of core.

Re:Pressure sensitivity?
Xfree86 has full support for Wacom input devices, because Wacom is one of the sponsors of the XFree86 project.
With the foundation in place, XInput support for the Gimp is in progress -- for more info, check out this and this. One thing to remember-- if the tablet has control over the core pointer in X, you can still use it to draw without the pressure sensitivity. Which is still a thousand times better than drawing with a mouse.

Re:who's next ?
Yes, they only go after people selling products, and they successfully shut down Roadkills-R-Us. Just try and get to Toys-R-Us Giraffe Threatens to Sue Web Page. You can't buy any roadkill from them any more!

Re:Anti-aliasing..
Use a scalable font. This is in the GIMP User FAQ. Not that I expect your typical Slashdot reader to read a FAQ before bitching, but still...

Toys R US LiedWhoever wrote that letter lied when he said that "there have been numerous litigations involving out client's rights to the "backwardsR" US marks and our client has prevailed in every such litigation."
Check out http://www.rru.com/ for a log what TRU has attempted to do to that site. As far as I know, TRU hasn't prevailed yet!

Don't remember Road Kills R Us?
A while ago Toys R Us did the same crapola to that site as well. I remember reading about it a couple of years ago. Here it is:
