Help us save IE6! Sign the Petition
Petition to save IE6!
IE6 has been the victim of false and misleading accusations all over the web, such as complaints about its compatibility with web standards. This is simply the confused ramblings of a vocal minority. After all, how can IE6 be violating standards when it has essentially BEEN the standard for years?
The SaveIE6 campaign is all about showing the world the benefits of using the web browser IE6. There are currently too many browsers with too many unnecessary features. They are hard to use and render web sites badly and inconsistently. Contrast this with IE6â(TM)s proven technology and well-documented behavior.
Please support the SaveIE6 campaign and help make the internet a better place!
You can help out here: http://www.saveie6.com/

Re:IE 8 users??
Why do you use IE 8? You should be using IE 6, according to your own sig. IE6 won't be wasting your time with modern YouTube videos, I bet. If that wasn't true, it probably will be true soon...

Re:Pry XP from cold, stiff fingers
I will be sending you Photoshop CS 7 files, not coding for anything under IE 9,
Save us, contradiction man!
Also,
1. No hardware support
2. No software support
3. IT not familiar with it anymore
4. IE not working on all websites1. Business hardware is typically monitor, mouse, keyboard, printer, scanner. I think we've got universal drivers covered in those spaces.
2. I've not seen many game-changing business applications in the desktop space recently. This is probably also a non-issue.
3. Please tell me you're joking.
4. Stop using IE. -
Re:Like
Is that site a joke, or was it written by a moron? I couldn't quite tell.
It is loaded with all sorts of seriousness and professionalism. The comments too from the front page just give it away.
“Now that I've switched to IE6, I'll never go back to Lynx again!”
Sue Donym“Trying to get your website to work correctly in IE6 is like a puzzle game! Challenging and fun!”
Nathan“Developing websites for other browsers than IE6 is just pure pain! The tables just don’t display the way they do in IE6.”

Re:Like
Sadly. Damn IE slowing down even non-IE users!
Even more sadly, this is not news. IE has been effectively sabotaging the non-IE community for years. The need to specifically code for IE6 and IE7 due to their crappy compliance with web standards has swallowed immense amounts of global developer effort, which could otherwise have been invested in improving the interwebs for everyone.
Just die already.
You Cheesecake23 have been misled by a vocal minority!

Re:Bug fix or change request
That's what you get for using a blasphemous browser with multiple tabs!

Dead serious!

Re:No shit sherlock
You Willy_me have been tricked into using inferior browsers my friend.
... on a more serious note I was a mac and powerpc fan in the 90s before I discovered NT. Apple was expensive but I did not have bullshit like 640k limit that had many hacks like extended vs expanded ram, autoexec.bat hacks because a mouse drive used the same expanded ram for a game ... even though 6 megs of extended were unused, playing with Dos 6 memmaker, and the horrible graphics performance of Windows 3.11 and the complaints over crappy PCs were endless. The 1984 mac was 10 years ahead of Windows and just worked. I told a friend in school I would have wished Steve Jobs became the next Bill Gates.
My God do I regret saying that as of last year. Bill Gates is a cute kitten in comparison to what he is doing to Andriod users. Bill gates used deceptive business practices and had lots of crappy code for programmers to include to encourage win32 only development, but at least he didn't sue every computer maker for having round corners.
If Steve Jobs won my guess is he would sue every maker who used a mouse, graphical interface, and maybe X itself. Linux would be command line only to this day as Apple would send out ninja lawyers to have anything resemble a font, icon, or widget. Sure he didn't invent the gui but he is known to sure as hell go nuclear and patent implementations instead of copyright.
The World Wide Web would be an Apple only experience if Jobs had his way and his dream of being the next IBM materialized. We have seen this with the IPad and his war agaisn't Android and Samsung.
MS right now is fading. It is only strong in the corporate market because that market is 7 years behind the consumer market in this economy. With Metro/Win 8 failing and IOS and Android taking over the drive will be for HTML 5 apps on any device. MS wont be part of that. We will see what will happen in 5 years from now. My guess would be corporations will be using tablets with keyboards running Citrix virtualized sessions of IE 6/XP (still) and salesforce.com and other cloud based apps in HTML 5. Windows 7 will still be around but it will be fading in 5 years year from now as it ages and no one will be using PCs anymore.

Better April Fools Idea
Be Creative!
Why don't you have a banner that says "Optimized for IE 6! Enjoy the new support the best browser available. . Link a whole bunch of articles including the one at arstechnica that showed IE 6 usage jumped last month.
Go dig up some CSS from Slashdot 2002 era from slashcode. Let us officeworkers use it for a day or need to click "compatibility mode" for IE 8 and 9. You have the code?
Maybe put the blue colors of XP mode in its colors.

Re:Reparations for IE
"It's about time someone charged Microsoft for all the wasted time and resources spent fixing websites for Internet Explorer!"
No please Mike. Think of the children?
-
Why is that bad?
IE 6 is the best browser ever built! Maybe if more of us signed the petition to save IE 6 and have W3C change it's standards to mimick IE 6 then all the web developers could live in absolute paradise.
-
Re:Old tech - old OS - old browser
That might be a mistake depending on your site. Here in North America or even Europe I would ignore IE 6 unless it is a very corporate site. Chinese do buy things online and ActiveX is required there and so are crippled computers with pirates operating systems that Windows Update can't upgrade to IE 8 easily. I know webmasters want to burn all copies of IE 6, but China is different and IE 8 can run in compatibilty mode so coding once for ActiveX and IE 6 is viable. Everyone else does it so it is standard as much as we hate it.
After all these guys can't be wrong?

"How many other companies are expected to maintain 10+ year old software, even after TWO new releases (Vista, Win7) are available?"
