Slashnot?
Yahoo in talks with Google?
This title made me think I wound up on slashnot by accident.
Gnu's for Gnerds. Stuff that mattress. -
Re:MIPS is going away?I do know for a fact that NS made a 3GHz 6502 that was not one of the three you list above, and that this ultra-high-speed model is not listed on NS' website either.
Are you sure you know this for a fact?
Also, the only reference I can find anywhere to a 65I02 was another one of your own Slashdot posts from June.

Apple and Intel Sitting on a Tree...
Apple and Intel Sitting on a Tree...
By Charles Jo

Forget Tom Cruz and his new and barely legal girlfriend. Or Brad Pitt and Lara Croft. The hottest couple of this summer is Apple and Intel. After years of bad-mouthing the Santa Clara-based Nelson of the chip sector, Jobs announced last week that Apple and Intel had been secretly dating for 5 years and now are comfortable enough about their relationship to announce to the world their commitment to each other. When asked about the future of the Cupertino-based computer company, Jobs said,"People want better user experience. So, with the hardware giant working on the [air quotes] exciting stuff, I would like to focus Apple's resources to the really really important stuff."
"The logo is our first priority. People love our Apple logo but I've got some neat ideas to take this to a new level that'll really make people go, 'Wow! Now that is a symbol that rappers would be proud to wear.' Watch out Mercedes. And come on, do you really want to be seen wearing a Dell logo? It's like you're advertising to the entire world that you eat at McDonalds and shop at Walmart." He then took a sip of bottled water, adjusted his Freudian spectacles, and continued,"Next on our list is the screensaver. Apple is at the top of the screensaver technology with the fades and zooms so why improve, you ask?" Before I could respond, he answered his own question with another question,"Why not? It's only a matter of time before the Windows folks and Linux folks copy me but by then, I'll have the next screensaver technology ready and BAM! I am on top again. Seriously, this is really important stuff to people. When you walk away from your workstation and your screensaver starts, you want your cubicle neighbors to turn green with envy and our R&D shows that Apple screensavers are excellent ways to increase social ranking in any corporation. Lastly, our commercials are going to so rock you. We are neck to neck with Sony and Budweiser right now and our future commercials will alter the way you view the universe." Jobs then leaned back and pushed a button on a remote control whereupon a giant white screen descended from the ceiling and in parallel, a podium rose from the floor. He insisted that this one-on-one interview continue with him standing at the podium.

obligatory turtles all the way down referenceAll it does is create the new essentially identical question, "Well who made the creator". It's an endless progression with nothing gained. By taking that step, it can seem like you have done away with the ignorance of not knowing the universe's origin,
Such beliefs are certainly
popular though.
A well-known scientist (some say it was Bertrand Russell) once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the earth orbits around the sun and how the sun in turn, orbits around the center of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy. At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: "What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise." The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, "What is the tortoise standing on?" "You're very clever, young man, very clever," said the old lady. "But it's turtles all the way down!"

Silence costs
The second example of purchasing a silent track isn't as ridiculous as it sounds (pun intended). There are people who will intentionally pay for what they consider to be art, or at least to reward the creator(s) of what they consider to be art. A silent track certainly falls into this category.
What you failed to mention is that the track violates Copyright law. Here's a note about a related case concerning silence, plus a thread on SlashNOT that includes links to the CNN article. That is the part that is really sad.

Re:Arrogance
*BSD doesn't wish to use Linux code.
:)
I agree with you on the zealot issue, there's zealots in both camps. The difference I see is, many BSD users have been admins for years, and have ran Linux, or admin'd a machine running it, at some point in time. (Such as myself, I've been a Linux advocate and admin/user since kernel 0.99, albeit that first machine did very little on one of my networks. :) I too have been an Internet junkie for long over a decade, before that, I was a BBS sysop/junkie :p) Whereas a lot of the Linux users, this is their first POSIX, UNIX-like operating system, and they might never have even installed a *BSD, or played with them for more than a few days. (Hardly long enough to derive an educated opinion)
Linus Torvalds: "Oh yeah? Well people compare Linux to BSD constantly. But there can be no comparison. Any time BSD does something better than Linux, we incorporate their code. But our performance wins can't be ported to BSD because the GPL prevents it. The code just flows one-way baby, so there's no real hope that BSD can remain competitive. It's embrace and encumber cats, embrace and encumber."
Reference: SlashNot
Linus blatently stating they rip BSD code at times, which is just fine by me. Yet if *BSD sucks so horridly as the Linux zealots have stated, then why ever rip or merge code from said codebase? Some Linux users certainly need to get their facts straight before shooting their mouths off.
Even if core members could rip Linux code, I highly doubt they'd ever want to. Infact, I'd bet on it. If not for their own arrogance (Not all of them are.), but then for the sanctity, and purity of the codebase.
I say this because: The BSD Vision seems to reinforce my belief. Just my $0.02.

Linux is a Trademark
In Korea a person tried making it his own trademark.
a Boston man tried taking control of it.
Microsoft Purchased it
although it's currently controlled by The Linux Mark Institute so Linus doesn't have to deal with it. -

Re:You people aren't doing your jobs.
Very interesting.....someone should also do an experiment where
/. is converted to PHP code, just to see which runs better. Obviously this would be a large project, but there is already Slashnot which is coded in PHP, and with a little more work it would be up to par with the real slashdot.
