Re:DRM devalues your product
Well, that small minority even got Amazon to stop selling it due to complaints...

Re:DRM devalues your product
At least as long as it doesn't keep them from playing the game...

Re:Chromecast?
Doesn't that lock you into streaming video from Chrome though, rather than just sending the graphics card output?
It's possible to send it through VLC to Comcast https://vlc-media-player.en.so... this is a VLC download and linked only for it's text, It's best to get VLC from it's source https://www.videolan.org/vlc/i...

Progect
Still haven't found anything as nice to use as Progect for PalmOS
https://progect-manager.en.sof...There was a Linux desktop version as well that could sync. If someone could port that interface it would be awesome.
I've more or less given up on the self-hosting requirement and have embraced... Google Tasks (somehow buried in the gmail sidebar) with the Gtasks app/widget. It's not ideal, but it's simple enough for long-term stuff, with due dates and alarms.
For short term (daily) stuff, call me old-fashioned, but I still use a pen and small notebook that I carry around. I draw little checkboxes. If a task falls too far behind in the queue, I copy it again on the current page and cross out the old one. If I get tired of doing that, I usually finally get motivated to either complete or drop the task. It works for me

Re:This is a pattern. It happens to everything.
Eudora didn't go this route. It went out on a high note, has been freely downloadable forever after, and seems to be more well preserved than bloated.
-
Eudora
Eudora is so good, so rock-solid stable, they stopped development and have given it away for the past 9 years.

Another perfect rating by 1,000's
You FAIL again, as usual, miserably http://ultradefrag.en.softonic... just like CNET has it rated by 1,000's as well http://download.cnet.com/Ultra...
APK
P.S.=> Your "9 selected" down ratings (from weak competitors no doubt or morons that don't belong on a computer)? BLOWN AWAY, like you are, yet again... apk

Re:How Can Spammers Look At Themselves In The Mirr
You really think Microsoft is going to claim their search engine can find the lottery numbers, and claim it on Slashdot of all places?
Why not? They lie and cheat about everything else.

Re:You're using it wrong
230 downloads on CNET and no reviews.
One review on Softonic: http://jshot.en.softonic.com/opinion/does-its-job-but-no-way-is-it-worth-it-355248
It doesn't even come with a standard installer.
Yup, that about sums up the success of Java-based desktop apps.

Re:To much selling me shit.
Generally for third party software (WinAmp, CopyTransmanager) to be able to sync to iPhone and iPod Touch (and I assume iPad), it requires Apple drivers, which are installed when you install iTunes (along with a bLoat load of background services). Supposedly you can separate the installer into components, and just install the drivers, but I haven't had luck with that. Copytrans Drivers installer will automate the process http://download.cnet.com/CopyTrans-Drivers-Installer/3000-18546_4-75300288.html
CopyTransManager http://www.copytrans.net/copytransmanager.php is simple drag and drop for music and videos
i-funbox will let you drag and drop files for apps that support it (Downlite, FileApp, etc) http://i-funbox.en.softonic.com/
Here's a lifehacker article that mentions a couple alternatives: http://lifehacker.com/5914638/the-best-desktop-file-explorer-for-iphoneI can't believe how terrible iTunes for Windows has always been. When I bought my iPod Touch 4g, I finally reached the cold day in hell where I intentionally installed iTunes on my computer (only to activate, and upgrade the iOS version)

Use WinDirStat.

Re:Inertial Sensors
Would have been sweet if they'd been able to develop an algorithm to detect an impending earthquake from the slight vibrations in the iPhone itself. Then it could work no matter where you are. Oh well.
Not so much for the iPhone, but for a MacBook, there is something fun. Amuse your friend(s), scare your coworkers! Look like you're doing real work!
Kinda a neat, pointless application.

Re:Students will complain
And here is an even better version. Works on any Windows from 95-7, only is 136Kb, no install needed so you can keep it on a thumbdrive, and will automatically name the screenshots for you and put them in the folder of your choice. you can take screencaps in BMP or JPG, and it'll crank them off as fast as you can hit the print scrn key. You can even have it print them to your default printer if you want a hard copy. it don't get easier than that!
As for TFA, as much as I disagree with RMS on...well pretty much everything, his right to read comes to mind right now. The publishers have been wanting to kill used book sales for ages, and an eBook can't be sold, lent, given away, etc. I think this is another wolf in sheep's clothing myself.

Re:I stopped reading...
Let me second this analysis. I've been a linux user since redhat 5.2 and stopped using windows on a regular basis something like five years ago. Last year I got a refurbished Macbook Pro and was blown away.
Time Machine (not timespace) is really useful as noted by the parent -- it's streamlined my entry into the hackintosh world greatly. That's how much I like OSX. It's no lie that Macs "Just Work", unlike XP. In fact, every time I have to help my dad out with his XP box I want to fucking shoot myself, luckily I convinced everybody in the family to switch to mac
:) Including Dad, but he doesn't use his desktop often enough to justify replacing it, but when it was time to get a new laptop he went for a macbook. His support calls to me have decreased dramatically. The reason I switched to OSX was because I am in the music biz, in which it is de rigeur to use it. But I stayed with it because it interfaces so nicely with my existing linux infrastructure. And since I started using Quicksilver I never want to leave.
Not to mention how pretty they make their computers.

How about KMplayer
No, not the KDE Mplayer, but this guy? http://kmplayer.en.softonic.com/ I used it briefly but it seems like it has too many customization options for the average user, but many advanced users rave about it. They have a forum here and it seems like the place to go for latest info and downloads.

Re:What sold me..
GIMP and Paint.NET aren't as good as Photoshop
Inkscape isn't as good as Illustrator
VLC isn't as good as The KMPlayer
Songbird isn't as good as foobar2000, Xion, Winamp or iTunes
Jahshaka isn't as good as Premiere or Media Composer
Blender isn't as good as Maya, 3D Studio or LightWave 3D
GCC isn't as good as Visual StudioTry comparing apples with apples.
GIMP 2.6 and later is as capable as Photoshop. It now has 32-bit colourspces even. Considering that Photoshop is about $800, and GIMP is $0
... you are really going to be scratching here to find a reason why one should use Photoshop in preference. If you don't like the GIMP UI
... try Krita.> Inkscape isn't as good as Illustrator
Debateable. Inkscape is pretty good, and getting better all the time.
> VLC isn't as good as The KMPlayer
Ok
... so use KMPlayer then. It is available for Linux.
http://kmplayer.kde.org/Oh sorry
... did you mean this one?
http://kmplayer.en.softonic.com/Meh. A Winamp clone. They are a dime a dozen.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audacious_Media_Player> Songbird isn't as good as foobar2000, Xion, Winamp or iTunes
OK, you don't like Songbird?
... so use Amarok then ... the very best software for your media collection ... and it supports iPods.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amarok_(software)
http://amarok.kde.org/
http://amarok.kde.org/en/screenshots> Blender isn't as good as Maya, 3D Studio or LightWave 3D
You are kidding, surely? Blender is the best by far
... I have heard however that because of the exceedingly poor support for OpenGL on Windows, Blender doesn't run very well on that platform. So do it like Pixar and others do it ... run Blender on Linux.> GCC isn't as good as Visual Studio
How do you figure that? GCC is the premier compiler set in the world. It targets more architectures, and handles more software langauges, than any other compiler.
Did you mean an Indetgrated Development Environment, perhaps?
Try Eclipse then.
Or perhaps something like Kdevelop in conjunction with Qt designer is more to your taste:
http://www.kdevelop.org/
http://www.qtsoftware.com/products/appdevReally, if you are going to compare applications, at least choose comparable ones. Oh, and if you want to run decent applications at good speed, then it would help immensely if you weaned yourself off of Windows.
As for *good* open source games, try these:

Re:How many third party background apps?I have a Nokia N82 with the same amount of RAM, ie 128 MB. After bootup, I have about 95 MB available for user apps. I've played freaking QUAKE 1 with the following apps running in the background-
- Mobipocket reader
- The built in music player (paused)
- The built in web browser, open on Gmail.
- Nokia Maps, a GPS based map software.

And?
How is any accelerometer game ever going to beat this one? http://lightsaber.en.softonic.com/symbian

Re:This is just great!
Well, if you only have a restore CD they will often by default erase the active partition as part of the process. Solution? Use RockXp to obtain your activation key and then use this key with the XP OEM install CD that you should have been provided with.

Re:Good job everyone!
Jobs didn't want that, though. He didn't want universally compatible music, he wanted ipod-and-only-ipod compatible music, which is why these new higher priced songs are only offered in AAC.
Sony and Archos (at minimum) make players which support AAC. Commercial libraries like BASS and Alarity support encoding and decoding of AAC. FAAD2 is a free/open AAC decoder. The Helix Community has supplied a decoder which supports AAC (and lots of other things.) You can get Cellphone AAC Players for Symbian or Windows Mobile.
Can you please explain again how non-DRM'd AAC audio files create Apple lock-in?

Re:iTunes came out when?
Not sure why...did'ja also know iTunes was someone else's product?
Why didn't they Sue Casady & Greene - makers of Soundjam MP?
http://ask.softonic.com/ie/9170/SoundJam_MP_Free
http://guides.macrumors.com/Image:ITunes1_vs_Sound JamMP.jpg
I purchased the full version right about when Apple bought it, bastardized the interface and gave it away free. Oh the horrors. It very quickly became a slick tool and I was happy with the results.
Nonethless...didn't WinAmp, and pretty much every MP3 and media player end up with the same basic style and layout?
(Big, slow moving target) + (well tuned harpoon) = beached whale meat (a fat settlement).

Shocked This Hasn't Been Mentioned
There are tons of services that host your bookmarks remotely. I use the Foxmarks extension for Firefox personally and love it.
http://foxmarks-extension.en.softonic.com/ie/51710
I'm not sure why this is newsworthy or surprising given that Google admitted they want to aggregate every bit of information in the world. I don't think Google will care or blackmail me for surfing porn. I think they want to know exactly what my fetish is so they can target specific advertising to me however.
And if you really want your browsing experience the same everywhere, then use Portable Firefox. I've made my own custom version of it, and I love it! -
