Re:Why not sue RIM while you're at it?
Learn to spell Cisco.

Re:Crisco??
"You're telling me that Crisco makes delicious pie crusts AND hi-end networking equipment? Sold!"
I've seen support requests emailed in from network admins needing assistance with their "Sysco routers..."

Re:At Walmart ...
let alone sysco.

Re:skype
LOL, okay I drank a little too much last night and my mind isn't operating at full speed today. I even looked at that before I posted and a little voice in my head said "Sysco, don't they make industrial sized vats of cheap food products?"
So yeah, Cisco makes wireless routers. Sysco makes foodstuff http://www.sysco.com/products/products.asp.

Pot ~ Kettle ~ Black- I need 4 pallets of tomatoes
Well, called Cisco - and they are upset about phonetic infringement!
Sysco had the name 'sis-co' 14 years Before Cisco attempted to take the name 'sis-co'.
Hell, if Apple music company in the UK can attack Apple computer (no relation) over the word *apple*
(prior art 4.1 million years ago - fruit evolution) ,
it seems that Sysco would have a very good case against Cisco for name dilution.
Imagine saying 'I need to pick up the new Cisco router and install it over at the Sysco Warehouse.'
Confusing? -
Re:I'm in no danger
I've heard of Sysco, but they don't have a 4507.
The chocolate pizza looks good, though. -

cisco - provider of network equipment. -
Not true.I think you're (O'Reillys Bar) wrong.
The same name thing in differant industries is usually just fine.

Re:First they should know what they're talking abo
From TFA (1) audio, video and data technology requires a new type of wiring called "category 5," which has five strands within one sheath. Wrong....
You know, I can just see some real tech guy, testing him to see how much disinformation he can get away with, trying not to choke with laughter..
Real Tech Guy: hehe. And uh, so we have this new hightech stuff that's just out on the market, it's called "category 5" cable. They uhm, they call it that because it's like hurricanes. Like, a category 5 hurricane is super powerful. So the network manufacturers stole that idea, and a category 5 cable is super powerful. Like a hurricane.
Brad Stone: huh. thats so cool.
Real Tech Guy: And uh, (choking sounds, as he tries not to laugh) uhmm, what else. So anyway, Cisco, they --
Brad Stone: Sysco?
Real Tech Guy: ... yeah. Yeah, Sysco. I think you Americans spell it "Cisco" here, but anyway .. heh.. uh, so Sisco, besides making good food products, they decided to diversify into electronics. They make these things called Internet Routing Components.
Brad Stone: Mmmhm. I've heard of that.
Real Tech Guy: You can just call them "IRC" for short. hehehe. hhehehe... ... and uh, well anyway. I think that's enough for your first article. Let me know how it turns out!
Brad Stone: Thanks man! I'm gonna write all this up right now! -

Oh, I thought it was the people that made plastic spoons and crap...

Re:Typoing your email address can be a drag
Dragging this offtopic, a good friend of mine was told to invest in Cisco Systems a few years ago. But he just heard the name and, being a non-techie, bought a bunch of shares in Sysco, the food services company.
Cisco went down, Sysco went up. Talk about pulling a Homer.... -
Other possible threats
In light of this, perhaps the following names could be "confusingly similar" to well-known tradmarks:
Wal*Fart compared to Wal*Mart
Sysco compared to Cisco
IBN compared to IBM
Wintel compared to Intel
Microslop compared to Microsoft
Oh, and any router with the word "gateway" in its hostname must be changed!
Granted, *most* of the sites mentioned are backed by big businesses with even bigger legal budgets so they can get away with it, but still....
(P.S.--It seems to me that "well-known" and "confusingly similar" are mutually exclusive)
