INAL, but from my understanding, If you repeatedly accuse someone (individual or group) of violating your rights and/or property and refuse to press legal action, that is, as far as I know, textbook libal/slander...we need to form a coalition of music fans who rip CDs to digital file formats and sue the RIAA for character assassination.

Cant wait to read the Slashdot spin when MS and Apple tag-team against the RIAA here...RIAA is accusing MS, Apple, Real, Creative, and more that I cant think of at the moment of facilitating crime on a mass scale, not exactly something that Balmer and Jobs will take without one hell of a fight...I hope

Youngsters are our most volnerable...if this thing really does hit schools, it could be really disgustingly bad: would the over-weight kid who is trying to lose weight (at the insistance of parents and doctors) be hit with candy ads? What if a kid searches out things about suicide because things arent going too well...will he see ads for guns or rope? what about the kid who is looking for porno, will he see ads for playboy (YES playboy/Maxum/Hustler DO target the under-18 crowd?...I got invites to subscribe to all of those when I started buying college books at Follets at age 17, preping for summer semester before HS graduation... this could be a huge cluster-f**k...

  7. This is the Net-Zero/PeoplePC model on MS Seeks Patent For Repossessing School Computers · · Score: 1

It boils down to this: no commercial product or service is free...either pay in cash or in time/privacy/inconvenience. Of cource, you do not NEED windows and MS office, Linux and Mac OS X are there too ya know!

Caller: "YOU SHUT OFF MY CONNECTION! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU FUCKERS DOING?"
Rep: "Sir, your system is compromised; you need to follow the instructions on the site that your browser is automaticly connected to at launch..."
customer "All I do is check the stocks and my kid plays (insert MMORPG-of-the-minute here)...we don't do that illegal stuff, we CANT BE infected...Norton said so!"

Lets assume for the same of making things a bit more interesting, that the caller is right, they are not infected...what else could cause this?
    Thats right, OPEN WI-FI!!!!

lets say that the dipshit college kid downstairs is connecting to your wifi, but you are no expert, you dont know a mac address from a zip code...and WPA...forget about it! The cable co in this case would have assumed the responsibility of ensuring a safe WI-FI setup was put in place...and I promise that the people with the skill and patience to walk someone with NO CLUE through a router config isnt going to do it on a CSR or even a L1-2 tech salary
