That's a new version of a "proactive recall" and "upright and ethical behavior" - when they botched the recall completely by not using the CSPC like they are supposed to, and reportedly tried to pay at least one person to stay quiet about their explodey phone, according to the New York Times.

This is, of course, after multiple convictions for bribery, tax evasion, price fixing, and collusion to the point of the CEO resigning in disgrace.

I don't know why anyone would be a "fan" of a company that has shown themselves to be a bad actor over and over again. I'd buy Sony before I buy Samsung, and I'll never own another Sony product because of their string of horseshit.

Remember Android before and after the first version of the "iPhone OS"? This article lays it all out for you.

The camera's mega-pixel count did sound high, but those numbers are nearly meaningless w/o the quality optics and image sensors to make those huge images actually look good.

Earlier they made(?) and used sensors with high pixel count even though you could save the pictures at a lower resolution, but it still gave better details (also normal CCD processors doesn't catch all colors per pixel but the colors in a grid even though the final resulting image has all colors in one pixel so the output data doesn't match the input data there and with a higher original resolution you shrink the errors there relative the output pixel / get better averages.)

I don't know if someone else (one?) did use a similar camera solution. I don't know if they actually developed the sensors themselves / had them made for them and if so if they still do.

At-least from a historical perspective it could be the case that their camera was one of the very best / the best used in a device of that kind.

Place of origin matter in that if it's a rebranded Chinese phone with Nokia software or so then it can't really beat what it is based on in hardware and differ from what others have access to whereas if it was Nokia made it could be both worse and better. It at-least leave room for the possibility of it being special/different/better (Then again the likelyhood of Nokia releasing a better phone than Apple or Samsung considering R&D funds available ..)

Who would want to work for "Monkey Boy"? Microsoft is apparently not able to hire socially competent people. Apparently Satya Nadella was chosen because he was the least annoying person. However, he does not seem to me to be the kind of person who can handle the enormous conflicts inside Microsoft.

This is my guess: Someone at Microsoft said, "Google and Facebook are collecting data about customers and selling it; let's do that also." So Windows 8 was designed to try to sell "Apps", as though Windows was a particularly trashy cell phone operating system. I was shocked when I first saw the Windows 8.1 GUI. Utterly incompetent. Now Windows 10 is apparently trying to imitate Google Android, which has become more and more invasive.

People who have work to do have already learned the GUIs they need. Even if the design is imperfect, that's what they know. They don't want wild changes.

It's scary. In the last few months, Windows 10 has been shown again and again to be sloppily designed and implemented, as well as being spyware.

Judging from comments on Slashdot, people try to find some technical reason for Microsoft's policies. They apparently have difficulty imagining that Microsoft managers are as incompetent as they are.

The Thunderbird and SeaMonkey Composer GUIs have been damaged, apparently deliberately. File saves in the newer versions of both ask for a new file name, and don't suggest the last one chosen. The damage was reported several months ago, but has not been fixed.

Is that another example of Microsoft's Embrace, Extend, Extinguish? People who feel forced away from Thunderbird may choose Microsoft software to replace it. Is that something Microsoft is trying to accomplish?

In my opinion, dishonest people should not be employed in management. In my opinion, the managers and members of the board of directors of both Microsoft and Mozilla Foundation who approved the dishonesty of sneakily re-configuring Mozilla Foundation products should be immediately fired, and not allowed to have management positions in the future.

Mozilla Foundation may be desperate now that it has lost the incredible amount of money paid by Google.

Look, I don't like Microsoft any more than most people here but that's just nonsense. You can grind you ax against Microsoft in plenty of ways that don't require making stuff up. It's not like there isn't anything legitimate to criticize about Windows. Your "evidence" that Windows is fragmented involves versions of Windows that were released over 10 years apart. That's not fragmentation - that's just normal development. The fact that Microsoft sells several versions that release different features depending on your license code isn't fragmentation - that's just price discrimination. Microsoft only sells a relatively small number of versions at any given time - FAR less than the number of Android versions available for sale.

There are dozens if not hundreds of companies selling highly customized versions of Android. Want to upgrade to Google's latest code? On most devices you are out of luck unless you want to go to the hassle of jailbreaking. There are even info graphics detailing Android's problems with a horde of different versions and makers.

I didn't even know their policy and tether regularly, but not for large transfer communications on my non-root Nexus 5. Shoot, the carrier can't even prevent tethering on the Nexus 5, it's built into the operating system (and my phone was a private purchase). I'm guessing the carrier can tell if you are tethering, I'm not sure, but then again it doesn't matter to me.

T-Mobile's coverage isn't the best (AT&T has that in my experience, especially outside of cities), but I've seen noticeable rural coverage improvements in the last two years (around the St. Louis area).

It took so long for Android because yesterday the big bad anti-freedom Apple announced support for Voice over Wi-Fi and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) with automatic switching between the two when needed.

And that's without taking FaceTime Audio into account, which has been available for a while now but since it's limited to Apple devices only I suppose it's evil from your point of view. Then games being only released for Windows is also evil.

I'm not familiar with (UK?) stores, but a quick Google shows that Apple stores are distinctively different than Debenahms (I don't see any video screens, and it's much more cluttered), or HMV (I don't see any tables or wall mounted video displays).

Apple stores do have a distinctive look, and I can't fault them for wanting to keep that unique. I don't think they're trying at all to claim the individual features, but the overall architecture created by a combination of features.
