Re:Steve Jobs and Security
You seem to be confusing Pirates of Silicon Valley with Triumph of the Nerds, which is an actual documentary.

And they even have some games...
And they even have a couple of good old classic games (in flash, though) for everyone to play while hard at work during school hours too. Or to entertain the web, whichever. We all love flash games, right? http://alt.tnt.tv/movies/tntoriginals/pirates/htm

Re:"Growth" is flat, so try innovating
I can appreciate the fact that YOU think the role of journalism has changed. But that is the only thing that has changed here, not journalists, only your perception of them over time. And to the notion of some sort of 'ethical' responsibility, well people will say all sorts of things to justify their employment. Just consider yourself lucky that you became aware of that fact in your lifetime, for most do not.
But the fact still remains, newspapers, and journalism in general are a means to convey a certain message to the public. It has nothing, and never has had anything, to do with factual reporting. Read just a sample, you can find your own if you just look; Publishing War William Randolph Hurst, and Jospeph Pulitzer. Robert McCormick, or any other OWNER of media distribution have ALWAYS told you what they wanted to tell you, and thats all. There has never been any sort of universal notion among any educated person, that newspapers are a reliable source of facts based on some sort of 'ethics'. There is on the other hand, no shortage of people who are willing to believe anything you tell them... even if the 'facts' are just made up to increase your print circulation. Snake oil salesman didnt sell their goods to tree posts after all...
And innovate? That is not even an option! Newspapers are a method of spreading propaganda, thats all. They have been innovated to almost a state of perfection. Because you are just now realizing this, does not make it an external truth universal to everyone. Its not an accident that a REPORTER was paid by the white house to spew PROPAGANDA about the no child left behind act. That is precisely what reporters do, and all they have ever done. This guy just was exposed.
Im not trying to attack you personally, but you are white, and that I am sure of. Some of the statements I made are unfounded of course, beacause I gathered only things I felt were of value, some of the statements I made were just opinions and 'sensationalism' to make my point more interesting to those other than the two of us who might be reading this(it does work that way).

Re:CAN-SPAM effective?
"Spam is worse than junk mail. With junk mail, it's the companies who have to pay for the paper, envelope, and postage. The more letters they send, the more money they have to pay. Plus they all clearly identify who sent it. The usps also is able to oversee the entire system (in the usa at least). With spam, there is no material cost or postage. It costs just as much to send 100 emails as 1,000,000. there is anonymity; spoofed addresses, spam zombies, and open relays make covering one's tracks child's play. In addition, there's nobody you can complain to.
I agree with you that spam is worse than junk mail because of the costs involved, but it's still in the same category. Yes, they are partially anonymous, as you can't tell who sent you what. But there is an easy, although more involved, way to find out who is sending the e-mails. The spam is advertising products and providing a link to a website to purchase said crap. You can't sell things anonymously very easily. You identify the seller of the crap, err.. goods. You make it illegal for them to support spammers with legislation or prosecute them for obstruction of justice should they refuse to identify who they paid to send out the spam. These people did not transfer money by slipping someone a wad of cash in a showbar. There's a trail of transactions to follow. If these sellers are using illegal means to transfer money to the spammers, then it's just more weight to use against them to make them cooperate. You don't have to threaten them with jail time, just fine them so hard that it is, financially, a poor business choice.
Anyone seen the newest cop show on TV, Wanted? It's a great show, but I predict the next new cop show will be all about hunting down spammers. Maybe I can sell that idea to Dick Wolf. -
We know drama
I thought Ted Turner invented TNT.

If this is embarrassing then what does bill gates think of the scene in pirates of silicon valley when he gets high and steals a steamroller.

NoThis actually seems like a very slight devolving of federal power, a minute reduction in overall regulation. Which is always a good thing. Why not try it, see what happens. It's not as if anything they allow now can't be changed later, if it turns out badly!
No, it is sometimes a terrible thing. We've been down this road before. Massive monopolies are bad. Massive monopolies that control the media and thus the public's perception are very bad. It's even led us to war, at least once.
And once you let companies accumulate massive numbers of TV stations, it's very difficult to go back. You have to undertake draconian measures to force corporations to sell off vast numbers of their stations. This is politically almost impossible to acheive, and very harmful for the corporations and their stockholders.
Some people have bought into the "all government regulations are bad for you" rhetoric, which though it has a kernel of truth is basically the biggest untruth ever foisted upon the American people.

WARNING: spurious reasoning ahead!!
"More hardware options for less dough?"!!!
Doesn't MicroSoft know that Mac OS X is based on BSD? !!! Hell, there aren't many things that BSD doesn't run on! Hell, my router runs BSD! Hence, I can run Mac OS X on my 386lx that I scrounged from the company's dumpster!
Those people at MicroSoft should get out more often and see what other people have been doing. I suspect they haven't done so since 1984! -
Re:Triumph of the Nerds
Nope, that was a made-for-TV-movie , whereas I believe the original poster was referring to the made-for-TV-documentary
