Re:Sigh
I point you to the ridiculously easy combination of Miro http://www.getmiro.com/ and TVRSS http://tvrss.net/
for exactly the setup you want. All the TV shows you want, searchable and automatically downloaded, ad free. Plus loads of free content on many subjects, also searchable. This is the reason my TV never gets tunred on anymore. Many shows also include HD downloads. Miro can also be used as a handy torrent downloader.

Re:Well, here's the obvious solution...
Plus, the RSS feed is much friendlier.
-
Re:Could someone fill us in?
Try http://www.tvrss.net/shows/
They even offer RSS feeds so you can subscribe to them with your torrent client and download automatically.
-
miro, a pretty neat idea
It also tries to integrate your torrent downloads so that you can track them from Miro as well.
I'm running this on a mac and it appears that there's still not yet a proper solution for a torrent client with RSS. UTorrent was recently released for mac but it lacks many key features of the Windows client such as the RSS feed. http://tvrss.net/ seems to be a good, clean torrent feed and you can key in search terms to make sure you're only getting one provider of the show at a time. Will probably work great on Windows.
I'm a recent mac convert and am surprised to read other mac heads saying they preferred running windows torrent programs under wine or in xp under parallels rather than deal with the sucky offerings for mac clients.

My list
I have quite a few.
Apple Trailers - New movie trailers.
BlizzCast - Blizzard podcast, not that great.
GameTrailers - Latest game trailers.
The Perry Bible Fellowship - Amusing comics though seem dead lately.
Penny Arcade - Enough said.
TED Talks - Insightful talks about many subjects.
Three Panel Soul - Mac Hall is dead, long live Three Panel Soul.
Video Copilot - Nice video compositing tutorials.
xkcs - Master of all geek webcomics.
Zero Punctuation - Game reviews amusing enough you don't need to care about the game.EZTV - Scene TV torrent releases.
Releaselog - General scene torrent releases. And there's of course Slashdot which currently has 126 unread stories, I'm sure I'll get to them sometime.

Re:The epitome of unbiased summaries
^_^ Actually, deluge (Or utorrent) + http://tvrss.net/ is the easiest way. Have your torrents automatically download the newest shows without commercials!
It is a lot easier than what I used to do (MediaCenter, auto covert, auto skip, etc). -
Re:still waiting for *actual* alternatives
Since you mentioned Miro: make a visit to http://tvrss.net/ to find a good show and copy the feed URL to paste as a "channel" into Miro. As a bonus you can then stream that content to your 360 or similar device with another program, TVersity. That's what I'm doing and it works great. The drawback, since I apparently don't know how to get good speeds from torrents, shows take forever to finish downloading. If you don't mind that it works perfectly. You can get video podcasts with Miro as well (though iTunes is good enough for that).

Re:Finally, somebody's using their head about this
In spite of what many say, searching out and downloading videos is not exactly easy or convenient.
Oh, bullshit. And the quality of the downloaded video may be anything from great to awful; you won't know until after you've spent hours / days downloading that huge file.
"Awful" is an exaggeration, but it's true that the "scene" morons tend to fuck things up. They've certainly destroyed a number of Colbert Report and Daily Show episodes, by cutting out parts that weren't commercials. -
tvrss.net + azureus
And for quite a while now I've been using tvrss.net's "Unique" feed -- which is the intersection of EZTV and VTV releases -- along with Azureus' RSSFeed Scanner plugin. Very convenient.
At the same time I also use Miro/Democracy for other vids (like the occasional NBC Nightly News), Liferea for text RSS, and another app + gtkpod for audio podcasts. Quite a mess of apps that I really should consolidate at some point. -
Re:The player isn't the problem, whatever it's cal
Why don't you add some decent feeds to it.
-
Re:No more lazy man's BitTorrent
You don't even have to really look. Colbert Report and Daily Show via RSS, downloaded automatically in the middle of the night and ready hot and steaming when I wake up each morning. Ta-da!
