Re:Little Known Fact
You're only 1168 years off, algorithm is based off the name of: al-Khowarizmi who did a lot of the founding work: http://cs-exhibitions.uni-klu.ac.at/index.php?id=340

Re:Can we learn lessons from mainframe VMs?
Here's one. Of course, once they were found, they were very easy to remove.

Re:Very similar to the AES competition
If the NSA really is so good that they can outdo the entire rest of the crypto community, well then they can probably break pretty much any of the cryptosystems out there.
Actually I think you're right, but to play Devil's Advocate for a moment, I will note that the UK government agency GCHQ developed a public-key cryptosystem between 1969 and 1973, significantly before Diffie and Hellman's (apparently) ground-breaking paper. So, government agencies are quite capable of beating the public state of the art and not telling anyone about it. -

do problems ever exist "alone"?
there's a documentary "The Sound and the Fury."
curious exploration of conflicting cultures. during 3 viewings noticed/learned/considered new/fresh points of view in several situations.
highly recommended for consideration of science and religion,...

You are right, but the link is wrong:

Wouldn't it be nice
If they could work on other enhancements to LTSP or X such as "screen" like session management or vnc session management or load balancing like Citrix.
I think its greating them getting involved, LTSP is quite a mature project and while I'm not quite sure what kind of extra value they would add hopefully they will be looking at solidifying LDAP/Edirectory integration and other enhancements (like bandwidth optimisation). -
Build your own arcade.
A friend of mine built his own arcade.

Re:choices choices choices
I like Eroaster. Try it.

cd burningJust a little note for future reference, if you want a really nice, fully featured, easy to use, newbie friendly cd burning program, check out eroaster (ECLiPt Roaster). You can get it at, http://eclipt.uni-klu.ac.at/projects/eroaster.
disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with this project, other than the occasional bug report...

Re:Is this different from Microsoft?
But why is it necessary to solve the problem by forcing a fork? Why not address the problem in the first place by having a well-defined fork a la the stable-vs-development strategy of the Linux kernel?
But there IS a KDE_1_1_STABLE branch in CVS! It's just that nobody used it after releasing 1.1.2 (besides some bug fixing).
Since KDE2 wasn't stable enough for me to develop KSysV, I continued to improve the 1.1.2 version. The result can be downloaded from here.
Now granted, I was the original author of KSysV and therefore had it a little easier, but it's not hard to grab KDE_1_1_BRANCH and make a standalone app out of some module.

my small PHP3 solution
I solved this for my purposes with a very little PHP3 function (10 lines, only one swicth() call). Now I have only _one_ source file for each multilingual page (no database needed).
Examples available.
Languages are selected via ?language=xx tags appended to the URL.
Of course it's not a solution for a big site and by far not perfect.

Re:That's a relief :)
Although Linux-branded beer would be an interesting idea.
I hate posting the same link twice in one day, but it's Friday so what the hell...
If they can sell Linux-branded underwear, then I'm sure there must be a market for Linux-branded beer. Oh what I wouldn't give to be in Tux's position right now...

Re:hacker girl ...
Well the hacker girl Acid Burn becomes the most sought after cyber sex symbol in the world. Coincidence? I think not. She's sexy... and made geeks around the world think that any gorgeous woman will fall for you if you talk about RISC chips and hack the gibson. Ohh yeah and beat plague
Chicks dig Linux. I found the proof on ECLiPt's website. It's got to be true (please be true...)

Re:Troublw with Firewire?
There are a huge number of FireWire devices.
Here's a short list (not for 28K modems).

(Off-thread) Firewire in LinuxSo, Linux has native USB support in the kernel. Is there a plan to implement the "obviously superior" IEEE 1394 anytime soon?
;)There is the GNU/Lunix IEEE 1394 Subsystem, but does anyone know how well this works/had experience with using it or knows if it will be included in the kernel sometime?

FireWire support
I am currently maintaining and developing the FireWire subsystem which hasn't made it into the dev kernels yet. I sent a patch to Linus two weeks ago, but he didn't reply, which basically means refused. Understandably, there were some missing features like a highlevel driver interface (highlevel drivers as in harddisk driver etc.), which I am working on now, and isochronous transmissions.
When I get that sorted out I will try again. As it does not change anything outside of its own directory apart from a few Makefiles, it could be accepted even into a feature freeze. The homepage for this all is ECLiPt, where you can also subscribe to mailing lists. -
