Re:I dont have one yet...
Or use the Wii Tracker. It checks several stores online. In about a week of using the RSS feed, I found a bundle containing games that I wanted, some extra controllers that I would've wanted anyway, and didn't have any junk in it that I didn't want. You can probably find just the console, but I only saw one while watching the tracker and it sold out quickly.

They are still popping up
I saw them for sale in a mall videogame store (not a major chain) in Houston the day after Thanksgiving--list price, no bundle. They were soled out in few hours. I bought mine a couple of months ago online from ToysRUs, after seeing on WiiTracker that they were in stock.

Re:Sometimes it isn't that hard...
All I did subscribe to http://wiitracker.com/'s RSS feed. This was about three weeks ago, IIRC. In three days I was able to get one online from Toys 'R' Us for the MSRP.

Saw one the day after Thanksgiving
I saw a videogame store selling them (list price console; no bundle) on Black Friday, although they were sold out by afternoon.
I bought mine from the ToysRUs web site, taking advantage of the Wii Tracker web site, where units pop up occasionally. -
Re:The sad reality...
I used wiitracker to find mine. It looks like they have a bot that checks all the different sites every ten minutes and updates the main page. It took me about two weeks of looking at this page every so often, but I eventually got one through Amazon. As an added plus, since I bought it online, I didn't have to pay what would have been about $18 in sales tax.

Finding a Wii
yes, people are still having a hard time finding it. none of the stores i've been in have it around here (target, walmart, best buy, etc). i don't shop at places like eb games or gamestop very often, so i don't know about them.
I've never seen one on the shelves. But list price non-bundled Wii's do pop up occasionally on the web sites of major retailers like ToysRUs and Sears. I was clued in to order one from ToysRUs by the WiiTracker web site -
Finding Wii at list price
The Wii is still hard to find outside of pricey bundles, but the shortage seems to be easing. You can check availability on this web site. Nobody has them today, but last week I picked up a console at list price from ToysRUs, and earlier this week Sears had it.

Re:I guess that means they're actuall making them
I got sick of calling stores so I used http://wiitracker.com/ (not a plug, there are probably other similar sites). After 2 weeks of using this site I got one from Toys R' Us. It was not a bundle or anything, but the downside is that you have to pay shipping.

Re:Meanwhile.....
http://wiitracker.com/ would disagree with you. Even the bundles rarely last for long.

Re:Anecdotal but it seems like the losers were onl
Here yah go
PS3 for $599.99
ATM no one seems to have the Wii instock (a few places had them as late as yesterday, but only game bundles).
If you are tryign to track down systems then:
buy wii, from techbargains
buy PS3, from techbargains
Wii Tracker
PS3 Finder (same people as wii tracker)
enjoy. -
Re:The PS3 is starting to stock some shelves
The internet rumors about the PS3 and Wii systems' availability are reasonably accurate ( http://ps3finder.com/ http://wiitracker.com/ )
...
Essentially, if you want to buy a PS3 for its MSRP you can (probably) make some phonecalls and find one at a store near you or you can use the link above and find one from an online store; besides camping out at a store for the next Wii shipment there is no (reliable) way to buy a Wii for its MSRP. I would assume that the Wii and PS3 shortages will end within the next month or so as Q1 is the slowest quarter for game system sales in the year and both systems seem to be getting a more steady supply to stores.
