He cites Jeremy Reimer of arstechinca: It figures
Anyone who cites Jeremy Reimer of Arstechnica as an "expert/authority" in this field ought to be. Doing that, after this:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?articleid=41095&cpage=216#feedbackAnchor
About Jeremy Reimer (and in his own words quoted no less), where Jeremy Reimer:
A.) Reimer Impersonated & libelled others on his personal website
B.) Reimer was caught in that by his HOSTING provider who had parts of Reimer's website removed for it
C.) Reimer was caught email harassing others with his fellow arstechnica pal Jay Little as well (which Reimer's ISP stopped quickly no less)
D.) Jeremy Reimer's outright lies on Jeremy Reimer's part (like you would NOT believe - know what the definition of "charlatan" is? If not, look it up, & look @ Jeremy Reimer's last reply there... the VERY DEFINITION of the word in fact is illustrated in his weak replies (about money)).
There, you also see Carr's "expert" in Jeremy Reimer outright practice TOTAL avoidance of technical issues & being off topic the entire time, which makes sense - Reimer clearly can't function @ that level, period.
Thus, for Carr? Citing Jeremy Reimer of arstechnica is tantamount to professional suicide.
Carr won't take any comments on that either on his website where he cited Reimer.
Gee - I wonder why (not).
E.G.- Carr cites that charlatan fool Jeremy Reimer as somekind of expert or authority Cin this field, & Jeremy Reimer has no degrees in comp. sci/MIS/IT, or even certifications in it, much less years to decades of professional experience in this field either.
No, Carr's just another "author" like Reimer. Trying to incite sensationalism, to bolster a flagging career, & all for the "love of money". -
Re:balderdash. IT will scale back, but never vanis
http://www.roughtype.com/archives/2007/01/the_cassandra_m.php
Nick Carr actually cites that idiot Jeremy Reimer as some authority on his blog page. He won't take comments about it either anymore, once he saw this:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?articleid=41095&cpage=216#feedbackAnchor
There's his "expert" in Jeremy Reimer, in action, avoiding any questions that dealt in the material in question, in memory mgt. & more.
(With Reimer being off topic the entire time, and libelling + impersonating others on his webpage & getting in trouble with his ISP and hosting providers for it, threatening others with his forums friends, email harassing them & being caught in it alongside his pal Jay Little from arstehnica, PLUS lying about his abilities (or rather, lack thereof, in avoiding technical question material & others as well)).
So much for Nicolas Carr - another "stir up controversy" know-nothing about a particular field, citing other know-nothings, & trying to pass them off as experts. -
Re:Can't argue with AmazonJobs was publicly arguing against DRM in 2003 Actually, his public appeal was in Feb 2007. At this point EMI had already decided to experiment with DRM-free music, and Universal was planning to follow suit (as we saw later in '07). iTunes was being looked at in Europe for anti-competitive practices. A suspiciously well-timed note, don't you think?
FairPlay was the least foul DRM Why so?
and Apple used its retail leverage to keep prices down Doesn't add up. Prior to 2004 apple did not have leverage (iTunes sales we growing, but still not a large enough factor to give Apple leverage). And presently, while they actually have leverage, they are not the cheapest source of DRM-free music (compare the prices on iTunes and Amazon for proof).
There's plenty of pro-Microsoft wags trying to say that Amazon is hurting Apple, but MP3s are good for the iPod. Actually, you're the first person to mention Microsoft on this thread. Anyway, the point is not whether Apple is being hurt, or Microsoft is helped. Competition among online music retailers is good for us; as their margins get squeezed, they'll keep steady pressure on the labels to lower their prices. Everybody wins (consumers) as long as neither Apple, MS, Amazon, anyone else, win outright.
The only thing bad for the iPod is Real/Windows Media/ATRAC DRM that can't play on the iPod. 'Can't play' is not accurate. Apple chooses not to support these formats (and they have their reasons). Should the competitive landscape change to a point where this lack of support hurts them, they will include the support (at least WM-DRM is easily licensed -- I don't know about ATRAC and Real). For now, it's in their interests to avoid interoperability with other DRM schemes. Case in point is the way Real would keep reverse engineering FairPlay support into Rhapsody, and Apple would keep updating iTunes and FairPlay to break Rhapsody's support. Make no mistake about it -- all players in this segment loathe interoperability, and Apple is just as guilty/innocent as anyone else of eroding Fair Use rights.RealNetworks Reverse-Engineers Apple's FairPlay DRM Scheme
RealNetworks announced this morning that it has essentially reverse-engineered Apple Computer's FairPlay Digital Rights Management (DRM) scheme. RealNetworks' Harmony Technology will let customers load songs purchased from the RealNetworks RealPlayer Music Store onto Apple's successful but closed iPod portable audio player.
Apple refused to share the technical information RealNetworks needed to make this translation possible; Apple CEO Steve Jobs refused repeated requests from RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser. Apparently, RealNetworks got tired of waiting.ps: did you enjoy the link? It's right out of your playbook

I wondered that too.
Windows IT Pro: If a company isn't cooperative with a request for an audit, does the BSA ever take legal or other action?
Kruger: There have been a number of incidents over the years where we have taken the information directly to a district court judge and applied for a court order that allowed us to go to the company unannounced and in the presence of federal marshals to conduct a surprise audit of its computers. We don't do that too often, and we basically do it to ensure that the evidence of installations isn't destroyed. That is our most extreme remedy, and even during a surprise audit, we try very hard not to be intrusive or interfere with the company's business. We typically give the company a chance to communicate to its employees as its sees fit. Some companies have represented to their employees that it is a company audit rather than a BSA audit, and we've always gone along with that. From Windows IT Pro

Jeremy Reimer has no degree or certifications in computers and no professional hands on years to decades of experience in them either.
Jeremy Reimer was caught email harassing, impersonating, & bothering others online needlessly. That ended up having Jeremy Reimer's website have portions removed and his friends that helped him in it (a Mr. Jay Little of Atlanta Ga. USA) had their websites removed in their entirety. Re:Guess he wants cheaper OEM licenses
You're quoting Jeremy Reimer the 'hack reporter' (at best) from arstechnica?
Jeremy Reimer doesn't even have a degree or certification in the field of computer sciences, nor does he have professional hands on experience (much less years to decades of it) in computers either. I wouldn't cite he. He was caught email harassing others online, impersonating and libelling them and had portions of his website (and his friend Jay Little had his entire website kicked from his hosting provider) removed forcibly by his hosting provider(s), see here:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?articleid=41095&cpage=212#feedbackAnchor
This has happened to Reimer many times now. He is a pest, and nuisance, and unqualified to do anything computers-wise. A fake is a fake, that's all there is to it. My 6 yr. old could do the same things he does in fact, which is read what others write, & spit it back out (merely plagiaristic hack reporting), & in fact, see what people wrote about Jeremy Reimer being an unqualified hack, from an educational institution:
http://www.cwrl.utexas.edu/node/933 -
Re:Grade article: incomplete
The guy who wrote it is an absolute moron, in Jeremy Reimer (no degree, no certification of any kind in computer either, & no professional years of hands on experience in the trenches doing the job).
See his showing here on that account, along with his arstechnica friends:

FAKE STEVE JOBS = JEREMY REIMER?
Per my subject line, the topic of this post, & this material?
Haha, the "fake Steve Jobs", who got caught by that person in this posts' topic?
He is JUST LIKE Jeremy Reimer of arstechnica, & his friends Jay Little, & your own starkruzr (Jtd/Jarrett DeAngelis - a member here on /.), & hux/veritas/waarheid, here:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=213#feedbackAnchor
(All those "arstechnica arse-holes" noted above by their REAL names (which took me almost NO time to determine in starkruzr's case), lol: They were CAUGHT, red-handed, posting as others to "support one another" but, with NO technical data to disprove my own (granted, neither did Dr. Mark Russinovich of Microsoft either - whom I had helped fix his pagedefrag.exe program for ROOKIE HARDCODES prior to his erroneous article releasing (and he STILL HAS 4 more errors on the SAME NATURE in that program no less))...
That, as well as being caught email harassing myself by their ISP/BSP's, + libelling myself, & in the end?
They're the ones having to deal with the HUMILIATION of being caught in all of those things, & having parts of, or, in their entirety? THEIR WEBSITES REMOVED FROM THEIR HOSTING PROVIDERS servers (crystaltech.com, shaw.ca, & petitiononline.com!)
LOL, one MUST LOVE, arstechnica, & their outright stupidity!
Hey arstechnicans? Do you like MUSIC??
(I know Reimer does, he wrote libellous tunes about me like some childish dolt might when soundly beaten, or like some WOMAN would, not a man - which I had removed, along with their entire personal sites)??
Well, here are some tunes for you BOYS:
"DANCE LIKE MARIONETTES, SWAYING TO THE SYMPHONY (of destruction)" - Dave Mustaine & MegaDeath's 'SYMPHONY OF DESTRUCTION'
&
"The earth starts to RuMbLe: 'WORLD POWERS' (arstechnica.com), FALL... Warring thru the heavens - A peaceful man, stands tall (me)" - Dave Mustaine & MegaDeath's 'SYMPHONY OF DESTRUCTION'
I've been thru it, for YEARS now from the arstechnica idiots (search "APK" on episteme.arstechnica.com, & see their edited posts of mine, or like Jeremy Reimer? Impersonating me on their forums & more (for just showing them repeatedly as WEAK in this field, & yes, fakes or rookies, when I was confronted by they first, every time)!
As usual, per the Windows IT Pro mag url above? I come out on top, vs. the arstechnica idiots many times now, for years (and, I never once start it, ever, but surely DO finish it & they, cleanly!)
APK
P.S.=> I would STRONGLY wager, this "fake Steve Jobs", is most likely another arstechnica "amateur" lol... OR, they learned from the 'arseholes' as they are often called online, the "masters, of their own disaster"...
The TRULY hilarious part is?
SLASHDOT HOSTS REIMER's "pseudo articles" here (derivative drivel, mere repitition 'hack re-reporting' of others' words, OR, outright plagiarism (like Jeremy Reimer's "HISTORY OF THE GUI", a blatant rehash of Englebart's original work))...
Top that off, with this fact:
Jeremy Reimer of arstechnica has NO DEGREE or CERTIFICATION in comp. sci, or professional hands-on experience in the field as a software engineer/network engineer-admin-tech AND? Has never written a GUI program we can see/try (despite his claiming otherwise @ that URL above + my asking for PROOF of them, which he NEVER put up, because he cannot - Reimer is truly a charlatan as well as an outright disrespector of others online & the law))...
Today? The world's full of these 'pseudo-experts', that like to 'support one another' via alternate guise logons & are STUPID enough to be caught @ it no less, as they were in that URL above, @ a WIDELY travelled + viewed publication in this field's forums online, for their ABSO -

I've seen that before, and I'd wager it's the forums board crowd from arstechnica.com, as they tend to often do that kind of thing:
E.G.-> Arstechnica forums members will each post as multiple users (each of them has like 3-4 diff. id's on any forums online or make them, as required) to support one another, whenever anyone online gets the better of them (which is quite often, mind you (ones named Jeremy Reimer, Jay Little, & others from arstechnica)), such as here for example:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=213#feedbackAnchor
What a pack of losers the arstechnica people are from their forums.
(They were caught in doing it, rotflmao, as well as being caught email harassing, impersonating other people online, & having their websites removed from their hosting providers)
I'd have to say it is probably the "Jeremy Reimer posse" hehe, from arstechnica! -

It's FAR from "latest/greatest", it hasn't been rewritten since 1997, the date of its birth for Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP/Server 2003/VISTA, & yet... it runs FINE on them all.
As to "dubious value": Ok, I guess a smaller registry with less entries to vector thru is "dubious value"... clue - the TINIER it is? The faster you can vector thru entries to init. the OS, AND programs that use the registry... AND, it has security benefits also:
Say, you look @ pr0n, or otherwise "questionable material" on your system from offline... sure, delete those files... think there isn't records of THAT on your system still? There is, & my program finds those & saves you potential problems of that nature as well!
As to shittily done apps? I had to help Dr. Mark Russinovich clear hardcodes (rookie errors) in his pagedefrag.exe program, & he thanked me for it... he missed more though, & I note them here:

The same place I am exposing you fools from arstechnica for your bothering myself online (being on topic, since it is about cyberbullying/cyberstalking)... do you know, I could drop your websites in less than 5 minutes time if I wished?
BUT, I don't break the law as you fools do, libelling, email harassing, cyberstalking, threatening & otherwise being pests online to others, as you do.
Proof? Read this:

Gosh, that's THIS thread now, isn't it? Now, if you are NOT an arstechnican?? Why are you bothering with this??? To look stupid some more???
Also, the person who wrote COOLMON, he is from arstechnica, yes? Ask him IF I found lacks of errtraps in HIS app, when it broke down upon failure to account for those like myself, that turn off performance monitoring via extctrlst.exe (a Microsoft tool) because if you do NOT monitor those? Why waste I/O generating them?
Also, before he died (good man from arstechnica, unbelievable), the fellow who wrote SETISpy? I sent him an email so he could apply CPU priority process -

Choose something else
Ok, you've got many PCs most of which run Windows XP. They've been crashing every Exploit Wednesday since October. Every one has a license that was paid for three times (six times under Software Assurance). You have seventeen core apps. Some of them are paid for several times. Some have a licensing server so that some people can use them when other people aren't, and come with a utility so that priority users can kick off nonpriority users. A couple of them are free. Four of them are nagware that came with your PCs or that you thought were a good idea at the time. One is an in-house app that only runs in a DOS box and accesses dBase files stored on your server. Every month a couple get pwned for no detectable reason.
Even if they don't run Windows you've paid over and over. You have to because they've made it happen what "enforcement" will happen if you don't.
Every software vendor you buy from makes it clear the software you bought is being split into "basic" versions that include most of the features you use, and an "Enterprise" version that includes must have features you can't live without. Both new versions will be annual subscriptions instead of purchases. Naturally, the Premium version you require will cost many times what you already paid and the cost will be annual rather than once each. Of course they're entitled to this conversion of your purchase into a "revenue stream" because they've upgraded their product from an application to a "platform framework" that "optimizes" your "TCO".
You're thinking about investigating this multicore thing that people are talking about, but it seems impossible to reconcile the software licenses with multiple "cores" on one or more CPUs. You want to do server consolidation, but every server app has to be evaluated both by a professional enginner and by a hideously expensive team of lawyers who also want to audit every piece of software you've purchased since 1974. Your CPA wants to know why you licensed the same software 3-6 times for each PC, and why you're buying licenses for software that won't run on the PCs they're purchased for. And what's this entry for "SCO Linux licenses"? You live in dread of being audited by jack-booted thugs, not because you're pirating but because the danger of a paperwork snafu that destroys your budget is nearly certain and the slightest discrepancy is going to get you canned.
I have one question: What the hell are you thinking? Get off the train to crazy town. The free stuff isn't just good, it's better. So much better that you're not going to believe you put up with this crap. If it's truly free you don't have to account for each copy/user/use/year/processor/incidence. It's not free because it's less worthy: it's free because you're not the first person to be disgusted by the experience you're having. Pay for support. Nobody ever got sued for terminating their support contract. Figure it out. The world has changed. The future is open.

Speculation? BUT, based on a good hunch?? Here goes:
Perhaps because I posted in the FIREHOSE section here today, the date of this post!
(And, of course, it was rejected - mainly because slashdot often posts this Jeremy Reimer's articles here, & he is nothing but a charlatan in this field (no degree, no cert in comp. sci, no professional years of hands on pro experience either)).
Thus, & imo? Any "adverse publicity" given Reimer, might adversely affect /. , this site!
ALL because imo, they did so, in regard to this (a case of libel on the part of one of their 'authors' whose dubious material slashdot posts here regularly):
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=203#feedbackAnchor
And, one of the 'authors of articles' in Jeremy Reimer (from arstechnica) is involved.
You read ALL of that, & even the page before it? Well, you judge.
My guess is they are trying to help "Jeremy Reimer the great arstechnica article writer" by assembling any minds here that MIGHT get him a way to 'weasel out' of what is going on above in that url, so he can "slip thru the legal cracks" somehow.
Won't work!
You see, upon advice given me 4-5 years ago - I've been archiving what Reimer, starkruzr (also posts as jtd, & his name is Jarrett DeAngelis), & Jay Little (each of these two are Reimer's friends and have posted things like "APK MUST BE PUT TO DEATH" in petitions online, & more) post on arstechnica, Reimer's Pegasus3d.com/OSY forums website, & others!
(Regarding starkruzr, a slashdot member here, who proves they post as others defaming me all over online, not just arstechnica &/or OSY - which they accused ME of no less!).
Reimer & Jay Little already were caught email harassing me there, and had their sites removed by their hosting providers (Shaw.ca & crystaltech.com respectively), this is pure recidivism, & their hosting providers & ISP/BSP's have been notified as well today.
Why? Simple:
All to show that Reimer, Little, & DeAngelis (OSY & arstechnica forums members) have continuously libelled myself for nearly a 7++ years now online in edited libellous photos of myself, and libellous .mp3 songs they have put up on their sites for YEARS now...
HOWEVER, mostly for death threats at both the arstechnica AND OSY/Pegasus3d.com forums in regards to myself over time, as well as Jay Little's petition to have me put to death.
Search "APK" at www.episteme.arstechnica.com OR at this site url:
http://www.wowdailynews.com/pegasus/phpbb2/viewtop ic.php?t=4128&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=500&s id=69c4dc3e635299c539af79e8e381bba1
And once you are at the OSY/Pegasus3d.com/wowdailynws.com site? Also search "APK" there as well.
APK
P.S.=> When you see some of the childish things they have done, such as post edited libellous photos of myself, including .mp3 songs Reimer wrote, but lastly?
A death threat & petition to put me to death (Jay Little) & some evilmerlin@comcast.net wrote??
That is the last straw... I am in contact with Mr. Wayne Crookes + his associates to put an end to this madness & possible threat to my family!
And, to think slashdot posts Jeremy Reimer's articles here... take a peek @ that url above, & perhaps since he has no degree or certification in comp. sci. OR professional years/decades of hands-on professional experience in it? You'd think -
THEY NEED JEREMY REIMER
They obviously need Jeremy Reimer (former high school physics teacher in Vancouver B.C. who was fired for molesting young boys there), because his skills in comp. sci. are severly lacking, evidenced by this post:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=202
Perhaps Jeremy Reimer can do better @ physics, than he does @ computer science related material (where Reimer 'fakes it till he makes it' as an "arstechnica derivative drivel author", merely regurgitating already known & proven material @ best, yet he has no degree or certification in the computer sciences, or profesional hands on experience in the field as a network engineer/administrator or programmer). -

SHAW.CA does, but @ times with GOOD reason!
Shaw.ca does!
See here about an "article writer" (arstechnica derivative drivel fits the bill far better), Jeremy Reimer:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=199#feedbackAnchor
Jeremy Reimer was caught:
1.) Email harassing others
2.) Impersonating others on his website
3.) Libelling others numerous times in edited photos and songs ripped off from SouthPark (no originality, the trademark of the arstechnica bunch)
4.) Then had his website removed from his hosting provider Shaw.ca along with his crony in Jay Little from CrystalTech.com
5.) They tried to lie about it no less, but the evidence is there posted for anyone to see.
6.) Then, they got their behinds handed to them on 15 different technical points (and, arstechnica is supposed to have this 'great computer guru user base' on its forums? NOT!) they could not disprove for over 3 years now.
Shaw.ca did the 'great article writer' Jeremy Reimer (plagiaristic buffoon) right on that one. The fool is still keeping it up no less. He has no respect for law, and not even for making his fellow arstechnica people look like fools as well.
A slashdot user named Starkruzr joined them there as well:
http://slashdot.org/~StarKruzr
And, like his idol Jeremy Reimer? Had his butt handed to he as well and is probably heading for trouble along with his fellow arstechnica friends, because it is cyberstalking they are doing (following a person around, off topic and looking stupid on their parts, online to many forums listed there for years on end).
You people @ slashdot are supposed to be good - but you post derivative drivel articles from this fool Jeremy Reimer?
Jeremy Reimer has no degree or certification in computer sciences, no professional hands on experience in them (much less years or decades thereof), & obviously, no skills whatsoever, except making his arstechnica bunch look terrible! -
USE /. (slashdot's) methods, they work, afaik!
"Microsoft research on Internet user profiling could lead to tools that help repressive regimes identify anonymous dissidents" - from the article/item here @ slashdot

They should instead, use a page from the /. (slashdot) playbook, because, afaik (& have tried)? You can't GET here "via anonmyous proxies" (@ least the GOOD, highly anonymous rated ones that is)...
THAT? That is a GOOD design here by ALL means, imo & yes, attempts @ it & thus, + experience, if you don't want "anonymous untrackable nobodies" posting things on your websites etc.!
Add the servers noted @ spots like here:
http://www.publicproxyservers.com/page1.html
To a DB engine/filter here, & filter out the "anonymous lusers/cowards", everywhere. This would save time in doing ping/traceroute detections, which can fail, on most ANY OS out here now (modern ones @ least) that are set to NOT reply to them (this IS doable).
The data for this is out there (see the url above), which should function to save time in designing ornate/complex ping-trace routines too into anyone's website, imo @ least.
(See - Unless anybody can tell me how to use a totally, highly anonymous proxy server here? Afaik, it can't be done @ /. (here), & again - that's "kudos" I must give to this site's designers, imo (provided I am correct, but I have tried it, & never was successful @ it though)).
APK
(Signing my name here, for once - though I usually just post as "A/C" (no desire for mod points/karma, etc. et al) on my part, & this is all, for the most part, & the desire NOT to be 'trackable' easily by some folks I have had hassles with over time (arstechnica) as well on my part))
I have reasons for this, see here:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=195#feedbackAnchor
P.S.=> Yes, new highly anonymous servers pop up (but, then again, so do virus/trojans/malware etc. et al), but that is what UPDATES/PATCHES are for... not to a binary in this case, but a referring table instead... apk -
Jeremy Reimer is a hack and a disgrace
quote: "You know, they say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results" by elrous0 (869638) * on Friday June 01, @09:24AM
Jeremy Reimer the author of that piece ought to take a page from your playbook in that statement. Read this and see how that fool Jeremy Reimer was caught impersonating other on his website and got nailed for email harassment of others with his arstechnica friends. Top that off with the fact Reimer and his friends from arstechnica had their personal websites removed from their hosting providers here for it:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=195
They also were shown to have pursued the same person here, and to many other websites trying to harass that person to no end and they paid for it. More importantly you can see that Jeremy Reimer has no degree, certification, or professional experience in the area of computers at all. Within that read which was very funny, I saw that Jeremy Reimer will lie and do just about anything to avoid the facts he was challenged to disprove and was unable to. Jeremy Reimer and all of his arstechnica friends really know squat about computing because just 1 person they have been giving a hard time to for years online by stalking him all over the internet like psychos absolutely trashed them on technical issues. I thought the people from arstechnica are supposed to be the best their is online as far as computers and technical things. They turned out to be anything but that and were either proven wrong at every turn, left speechless, or had to resort to making libellous photos, death threats, and libellous .mp3 songs about that person. What a disgrace to the arstechnica website Jeremy Reimer is. -
Reimer the charlatan & libeller? hahaha
Rated Flamebait?
Tell us - How can facts and the libellous criminal actions from Jeremy Reimer's own words and actions (and lack of expertise in the area of computer sciences on the author's part in Jeremy Reimer as well) be cited via his own words be considered that??
Last time I checked, facts are facts, not flamebait. Are the words & actions of Jeremy Reimer, quoted in this url below:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=195#feedbackAnchor
Not fact?
(Not only does slashdot cite the words of a fake like Jeremy Reimer, their moderators/administrators can't even rate factual information correctly). -

See how expert in the area of computer sciences the author of this "fine arstechnica article" (& his mere recycled regurgitations of the reporting of others) is (not) alongside his arstechnica friends Jarrett DeAngelis & Jay Little:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=195#feedbackAnchor
That was where Jeremy Reimer was caught impersonating others on his own website, & was additionally found guilty of email harassment (plus libellously writing libellous songs and edited photos of someone they have been bothering for years online like internet psycho stalkers as well), just because he and his arstechnica friends lost a technical debate, badly!
Jeremy Reimer and his friend Jay Little also had their websites removed by their hosting providers (for such poor antics).
Jeremy Reimer doesn't even have a degree, or even an A+ certification, or years of professional experience in the arena of working directly in the computer sciences. Anyone can write what he did reporting the findings of others, as it takes no brains to read what others wrote and regurgitate it @ arstechnica.
Do you expect us to listen to "fake-it-till-you-make-it" Reimer? I won't, the guy's a fool. Find better articles & sources to report on & from slashdot: Reimer is nothing more than a fake. -
Re:you need to work on your reading comprehension
While I appreciate your concern for my reading skills, "not as successful as Apple had hoped" is clearly a nice way of saying "a failure." Aside from that, Wikipedia is hardly an authoritative reference, so arguing over what it says is an exercise in futility. If you're going to try to prove me wrong, at least link to something more authoritative. Like this, perhaps. Although "Apple CEO Gil Amelio is also taking a close look at Newton, the disastrous 'personal digital assistant' that has yet to turn a profit," might not be the smoking gun you were looking for. That said, the article was from 1997. Maybe the Newton actually started turning a profit right before they discontinued it a year later? In which case, why is the Newton on the top of Macworld's 21 biggest IT flops?
Next time, do your own research. -
Re:Sad or Telling?Yes, it is well known to anyone who's looked into the workings of the SCO Group.
Caldera bought DR-DOS from Novell in 1996, for $400 thousand, long after the alleged damage to the product had been done. The company settled with Microsoft over the DR-DOS lawsuit for an 'undisclosed sum' in January 2000, which Microsoft valued at $155 mn, but others speculated was actually 'much higher'.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/600488.stm
http://www.windowsitpro.com/Articles/ArticleID/80
4 5/8045.html?Ad=1In August 2000, Caldera agreed to acquire the Santa Cruz Operation's Unix products, including UnixWare and the SCO name. Caldera later changed its name to The SCO Group, but Caldera management remained in charge, i.e. the company was actually Caldera, not the old Santa Cruz Operation, which became Tarantella, and in 2005 was acquired by Sun Microsystems.
http://www.infoworld.com/articles/hn/xml/00/08/02
/ 000802hncaldera.htmlhttp://www.sun.com/software/tarantella/index.xml
Caldera's financial statements (see www.sec.gov) show it lost more money in 1999 and 2000 than its total revenue for each year, and had negative cash flows from operations. How was such a company able to issue equity that investors actually bought, pay for its ongoing losses and come up with enough money to acquire and sustain UnixWare, another loss-making business, along with the SCO name, in a deal valued at $91 mn? The answer is that the entire operation was funded by the DR-DOS lawsuit.

What About Paul Thurrott?
I came to this thread late but this guy has more Microsoft fan sites than any Apple fanboy. How about this, or this, or this? He's a one man Microsoft-love flash mob! Or how about Rob Enderle? Yes, Virginia, there are enthusiastic Softie fans out there!

Re:4.3B last quarterEven if you don't count the deferred sales, Vista did extremely well and *still* beat expectations.
Here is a quote from Paul Thurrott's analysis: Allow me to predict one of the weak complaints Vista bashers will make about Microsoft's financial results: They'll charge that Microsoft's earnings last quarter were artificially inflated because the company previously deferred revenue from the free and low-cost Vista upgrades offered during the 2006 holiday season. So is it true? According to Microsoft, the company deferred $1.67 billion in revenue from the last calendar quarter of 2006 until the first calendar quarter of 2007, or about $1.14 billion in profits. But even without that one-time gain, Microsoft's revenue would have been up 17 percent. More to the point, the slice of the pie that Windows is responsible for would have still jumped a whopping 30 percent. Microsoft CFO Christopher P. Liddell said that regardless of trends, sales of Vista were $300 million to $400 million higher than the company's internal projections. Sales of Office 2007 were about $200 million higher than expected. You claim that PC sales are down, and indeed they were down, until Vista hit the market. Vista caused a complete reversal in the PC sales trend. This is even more surprising since Microsoft missed the holiday window for the Vista release.
So despite the best efforts of many people in the media, and certainly Slashdot, The Register, and similar anti-MS sites, Vista has done extremely well. My bet is that it would have done even better if all this FUD wasn't being spread.
Maybe, just maybe, you're all wrong about Vista. Maybe, just maybe, Vista is a really damn good OS. Stop regurgitating the FUD and try the OS for yourself. -

Pay attention to it, avoid arstechnica (VISTA has THIS much, right) - See here for how their "technical authors" behave (not technical at all in the example below that shows his lack of expertise & experience in the arena of computer science):
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=193#feedbackAnchor
(Mainly Jeremy Reimer, and his friends Jay Little + starkruzr (the last one is a member here @ /., no less). The first two, one being one of their authors (who has no professional experience as a network or software engineer, no degree or certification in computer sciences, and not 1 technical contribution to the discussion there) had their sites removed from their hosting providers, were caught email harassing others by their ISP's, and generally flopped totally on technical issues)
I lost any and all little respect for the website arstechnica, after that little debacle!

Where apk was modded up +4, and you got a lol, -1 for trolling & flaming (which means you are a dick basically)!
That is where, surprise surprise, you the arstechnican started up with apk for no reason, the first time I know of here @ slashdot, ontop of here again later & recently as of the date of this post:

Which you have, harassing myself here, and apk there, further!
(You are creating your own problem, not I, online harassing, libelling, or otherwise following apk and others around to do so!)
And here at slashdot, where tests and tools you were invited to try, proved you UTTERLY wrong as well on the RegFlushKey API call above:

On how the registry itself, works, and it is NOT 'static/unchanging' once loaded into RAM from disk, changes occur (reads and writes) to data there, this is marked in a dirty array/buffer as to where, and then the default is config -

All anyone needs to read about yourself starkruzr, and your arstechnica friends like Jeremy Reimer (whom you admit to being friends with here, at slashdot) and Jay Little who were both kicked from their hosting providers for their websites, were caught email harassing apk, and also libelling him at windowsitpro.com and their own websites (hence the removal for "APK MUST DIE" and such), as well as impersonating apk on their forums (both arstechnica and osy, Reimer's website).
Keep 'trolling apk' as you are and have been doing here at slashdot, and at techpowerup.com forums, evidenced with you posting as "JTD" (JTD = Jarrett DeAngelis):
http://forums.techpowerup.com/search.php?s=ee37149 78d2e4ac4bfdbc601bb72b146&searchid=588454
and as starkruzr at techpowerup.com forums (proving you like your masquerading as others as your friend Jeremy Reimer did impersonating apk on his OSY forums):
Lastly, you settle on posting as starkruzr here, and at techpowerup.com, which you post at windowsitpro.com forums as now, per the above URL!
Everywhere you posted is archived, as both starkruzr, and jtd, at techpowerup.com forums, and here.
So removing posts is not a thing to try now starkruzr.
You'll see what happens, and you rather unintelligently brought this back to life, and provide proof you and your arstechnica pals are indeed, continually online stalking, harassing, and otherwise attempting to ruin someone's reputation online with.
Like your lousy attempted cut down of apk's program here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/389/foowhatev ermakesgooglehappy.html
Where others tore you apart, Mr. GradSchool/Doctoral candidate, with your ERRONEOUS 'evaluation' of it, and where you went wrong on it, noted here:
http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=230833&thresho ld=-1&commentsort=0&mode=thread&pid=18880177
Poor job, because you stated the registry is static in nature (it is not, it is quite dynamic, since programs read AND WRITE TO IT, all day long, changing values and adding them even (installers add usually), and the configuration manager writing .log files and mirroring changed entries back to disk prove that, as well as possible RegFlushKey Win32 API calls usage allowing a program immediate flushes back to disk hives or .log files, and the configuration manager does the rest).
Even poorer trolling others, which you will regret, legally. -

That explains it all about starkruzr, AND his arstechnica friends like Jeremy Reimer and Jay Little, continually harassing & cyberstalking, email harassing, and outright libelling apk since 2001 to today presently:
StarKruzr started it here at slashdot (and techpowerup.com stalking apk there from here), and the evidence of that is plain from both slashdot and techpowerup.com as well as windowsitpro.com, (more below too) where he continues his internet stalking of apk.
Read on, this gets a LOT better:
Starkruzr is registered at techpowerup.com as JTD and Starkruzr, and as starkruzr at the windowsitpro forums, his real name is Jarrett DeAngelis.
http://forums.techpowerup.com/search.php?s=6b0dd96 98b1626d665c836c568235767&searchid=588020
and he came to harass apk there, see his first post in that list, besides doing that here as well continuing it (evidences are below and in his first post in that list there in fact).
This is just more evidence thereof because starkruzr has tried to trash apk here twice, and elsewhere online, and apk never did once to starkruzr, first, and 2-3x now at this site and others (windowsitpro.com, techpowerup.com, and yes, slashdot.org):

When starkruzr attempted to shoot down apk's program, and made HUGE errors, especially in his saying this (run this by Dr. Russinovich in fact, vs. you being shot down and see who was correct)

First of all, an array of structures (or even a directory structure on disk really) is a better description, and secondly, the registry is written to, every 5 seconds iirc, by the kernel component, and is a dynamically changing structure!
The CONFIGURATION MANAGER first of all, writes it back to disk, & secondly it CAN be done by using the RegFlushKey Win32 API call, if needed -

You've been very useful Jarrett!
(and why bother ask you what you stated? You evaded that question you now want others to ask you, constantly along with what you have accomplished in computer sciences in publication in this field in print! You never gave us here a simple yes, or no, from yourself in regard to any of those questions, when you were asked it. Why should anyone ask you a question you have evaded to no end here?)
However, now you have been truly useful & instrumental in helping determine some things for an ongoing matter regarding internet stalking and harassment arstechnicans are directing apk's way since 2001-2002 to today, presently.
"I think it's HILARIOUS to harass YOU online. Just you. Only you." - by StarKruzr (74642) on Friday March 30, @12:21AM (#18539431)
Stalking apk, as you have here at slashdot and also at techpowerup.com:
JTD = Jarrett DeAngelis = starkruzr.
http://forums.techpowerup.com/search.php?s=6b0dd96 98b1626d665c836c568235767&searchid=588020
This all makes sense now and provides yet more continued proof you and your arstechnica friends are stalking apk online. Bad move. Still, do take a look at this before you keep it up:
What Is Cyberstalking?
The term is used in this report to refer to the use of the Internet, e-mail, or other electronic communications devices to stalk another person. Stalking generally involves harassing or threatening behavior that an individual engages in repeatedly, such as following a person, appearing at a person's home or place of business, making harassing phone calls, leaving written messages or objects, or vandalizing a person's property.
Since you are student at Notre Dame, in South Bend Indiana, this applies:
Indiana
IC 35-45-2-2
Sec. 2. (a) A person who, with intent to harass, annoy, or alarm another person but with no intent of legitimate communication.
Since you are from Staten Island N.Y. originally, this applies:
http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A05376 [state.ny.us]
BILL NUMBER: A5376 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the penal law, in
relation to cyberstalking on a computer network in the first degree
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : Creates the crime of cyberstalking
making it a class E felony.
Your friend Jeremy Reimer and Jay Little were already caught in email harassment and libel (as well as being kicked from their hosting providers for their websites for death threats saying "APK MUST DIE" etc.) AND FALSELY IMPERSONATING APK ON THEIR WEBSITES (both arstechnica and Jeremy Reimer's OSY forums) and that much per the windowsitpro magazine thread here evidences that easily:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?art icleid=41095&cpage=193#feedbackAnchor
Between the techpowerup connection to yourself and your posts here about apk (when he never posted anything about yourself here no less even once prior to you ever doing so about he first, and not even after afaik) and the arstechnica forums members harassing him at windowsitpro.com, 2cpu.com, ntcompatible.com, majorgeeks.com, 3dfiles.com, and more since 2001 or thereabouts, especially now that you are definitely connected with Jeremy Reimer per your own words here at slashdot, and Jay Little via arstechnica as well (which you are and admitted to it here on slashdot) you are part of this all now.
Additionally, your personal honesty and ethics are in question here (not your motivations though at this point) and you will not help your friends on that account either since you stated you were a woman, and when caught, a man.
"YOU were the one who originally suggested I might be female, I just went alo -
Re:He asked for a definition. And U.R.A. liar
Weren't you asked that same question Starkruzr, and you avoided answering many times and lied many times also?
My name is not alex, but here are your lies again, for your reference and those of others here:

And, when caught in his lie, only then did he admit to it here:

Give us a break. Learn to tell the truth for once, someone might believe you then. Kind of hard to prove you are telling the truth though, when you are exposed as an outright liar, especially thru your own words, just like your friend and fellow 'arseholetechnican', Jeremy Reimer here:

Re:lol! Why are you avoiding answering?
Why avoid answering? It is a simple question, and only requires a YES or NO answer!
(Perhaps because it may end up with a result like this one here, in the url below, which your friend Jeremy Reimer brought on himself, and was made out to be a fool and charlatan in, as well as getting himself caught email harassing others, and he and his friends having their websites removed from their hosting providers for?)

ROTFLMAO! You are a known liar, but that shows that character of arstechnicans like yourself. Here are your lies again, for your reference and those of others here:

All you have done is lie here, yet again, and this all proves it (your own words saying you are a girl, and when caught, you changed it again, lol):
"I never said I was the girl in that picture either, you did." - by StarKruzr (74642) on Thursday March 29, @06:16PM (#18536049)
