Re: On paper, this is a good decision
we actually "know" exactly what they're providing and it IS basic internet service. All of the internet.
That would make this page rather redundant then. "Optimise for feature phones" - what they are offering actually seems more like WAP. It might still work for Africa, but India is already well served by LTE networks and cheap Chinese smartphones.

Re:not the only coutry
Actually, Both Florida and Tennessee are split between EST and CST. Florida is split just the west of Tallahassee, basically on a continuation of the Alabama-Georgia boarder. Tennessee's split is similar (as is Kentucky's).

More like New York To Chicago.
Statistics show that the heart attack rate shows a small but significant peak following the weekend DST is activated. You're fucking with the biorhythm of people in ways that are only rivaled by forcing them to travel from east to west coast twice a year and having to adjust the time accordingly
It's just one hour "zone time" change, remember.
Coast to coast would be three hours. USA Time Zone Map - 12 Hour Format
When researchers in Sweden examined the impact of daylight saving time on heart attack rates in that country, they discovered that people had slightly fewer heart attacks on the Monday after they set their clocks back in the fall and slightly more heart attacks in the days after they set their clocks ahead in the spring.
The effect of the spring transition to daylight saving time on heart attack rates was slightly greater for women than men, and the fall effect was more pronounced in men than in women. And the effect was consistently more pronounced in people under age 65 than for those 65 and older.
Daylight Saving Time May Affect Heart
So more time that I have to deal with screen glare, yeah, that's what I want!
It sounds like you're suffering from separation anxiety whenever you are away from your desktop, smartphone or tablet. You might want to cut back on the caffeine and spend more time outdoors.

Re:IMHO Apple is becoming a scummy advertiser
Let's have a look at 4G around around the world shall we?
http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
Oh look! It would appear that THE MAJORITY OF THE WORLD uses the 900/1800 GSM band.
Apple intentionally mislead consumers, and they were warned prior to the iPads release by the ACCC that what they were doing was in breach of advertising laws.
I've spoken to many CEO's (I work helpdesk for a private hospitals) who wanted to order the iPad and when I told them it wasn't 4G compatible in Australia they were all shocked to hear it. I would assume this is the same with many other consumers as well. -
Re:Happy birthday to 180th meridian too !
You are technically correct !
But in truth, the +12/-12 timezone is the same timezone with the dateline in the middle.
This image makes things a lot clearer:
Since GMT is 0 if we had +12 timezones and -12 timezones we would end up with 25 timezones
;-))So +12 and -12 take the same space as as one unique regular timezone would take.

Re:Umm, no.
Well, a very, very significant percentage of the world uses GSM, but it looks like there are still a few countries lacking it

Re:iPhone in Japan
Take a look at http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html, then tell me: who's the oddball. Japan is special because there's no GSM coverage (their second generation network is PDC, which exists only in Japan), but their 3G network is the same kind you'd find everywhere else in the world, except in the US.

Re:US, welcome to the world
Looks like Russia is well covered by GSM:

Whole center of country on different schedule.
The entire middle of the country shows stuff an hour earlier than the East coast.
Yes it's localized. And they play it at 9:00 because we don't generally have to take eight hours to drive home and can thus watch things earlier. The whole primetime lineup moves up. Which is i think why the West coast has stuff playing later again.
Also, as to stations spaning timezones -how about reading a timezone map and telling me that Las Vegas does not have a station or two that just might reach more than 80 miles. Or Bizmark. Or Atlanta. There are plenty of stations that cross timezones if you think about it, especially in the more popualted regions along the time sozne shift away from the west or east coast timezones. -
Re:In related news
Actually one state to the right would be Missouri, and last time I checked they are still in CST. http://www.worldtimezone.com/time-usa12.php

Re:11am?
Kiribati -- GMT +14
New Zealand will be the first industrialized nation... -
the view from here.Hmmm. what time is it?
Did it work?
So far my favorite lines at work are: "If there's a lot of problems we'll page you." (Great, you don't trust our software but you trust the paging companies.) and "If the building has no power there will be security people at the dorr to check your bages and let you in." (Obviously they think Windows NT is just as useful without power...)
Word is ABC & CNN are just doing minute by minute broadcasts. Man, I wish I was still hacking, wouldn't you love to be able to change those screens!
