Yahoo makes video content like television or movies? I've never noticed anyone comment about this before. As I'd never heard of this, I decided to be less than lazy, and go do a Google search. The suggestion indicated that I should search for Yahoo originals so I did and it lead me to a horrific looking site but it does, indeed, appear that they are creating video content. It is appropriately named Yahoo! Screen and I have no idea where to begin to look for interesting content on the site (and no idea what to search for that might interest me as browsing is my usual way of finding new content).

It's really kind of strange to see them in the video market. It's not a route that I'd have expected them to take. They're not on my 'list' of companies that I watch or anything but I probably would have noticed someone mentioning that they made original content or even had a video service. I dare say they failed at marketing. I don't see any unwanted ads, really, but 'word-of-mouth' is something I'd have guessed this would have generated due to hype if it was any good but, no, I've not seen a single comment about this until I read your comment - and I read *a lot* of comments (long story) on tech sites or news aggregation sites.

I have no idea how long they've been doing this and I will look into the site a bit more when the urge strikes. I'm really kind of surprised that they're even in the video market segment. It doesn't really make much sense to me for them to even be there. Perhaps someone has a clue as to why they entered the market? As near as I can tell, for the most part, the market is saturated as it is. I'm unsure of how it ties into their core business but, frankly, they abandoned their core business years ago when they dumped their search engine and outsourced it to Bing.

You seem fairly knowledgeable on the subject. Do you have any wisdom to share as to why they've entered the market? I do not have any of their stock in my portfolio but, if they seem to being willing to diversify and take risks then that may be something for me to invest in.

Aside and off topic: Which is, oddly, why I read all those aforementioned comments at the various aggregation sites. To make a long story short and give a good example, it was Slashdot that made me realize that Tesla would be trend so I bought 2000 shares when they were at $24 each simply because I knew that people were really interested in them. Well, no. I'd be reading the comments anyways as they're more interesting than the stories. It was a choice to act on those discussions and was a drunken choice. While I no longer drink the method has been very productive. I have a professionally managed portfolio and my "play" portfolio. I started with a few tips and an account set up to trade with from my broker. For the past three years I've done better than my real portfolio but that's by design as that's for safe and secure and mine is for high risks and silly things that I feel ethically bound to support. They have two different goals. As I mentioned, it's a long story.

Back on topic... If you have any insight as to why they got into the market (I was unable to find a press release) or anything to add about them that would be interesting then I'd be interested in reading about it. I didn't find whole lot in my search and am genuinely curious as to what would prompt them to enter the market and how I missed it entirely. Then again, I haven't really paid attention to Yahoo! for something like ten years. Maybe I just glazed over the topics when they came up but I don't recall a single person mentioning their video service - ever. That's downright odd considering how many comments I read and the nature of the sites that I visit.

It seems to me that Windows 10 moves some things forward if you have the right kinds of device to take advantage of it, but suffers from trying to treat widely differing kinds of device used for widely differing purposes as if they should all work the same way.

Incidentally, articles like this one by David Pogue are exactly the kind of thing I was mocking before, and I stand by that mockery. He summed up his own position quite neatly with this:

One thing to note about the treaty protecting diplomatic missions is that there is strict context to the restrictions:

Is harboring international fugitives really the official use of the embassy? This isn't a political thing, either; there is a valid interpol warrant. If you're part of the interpol system, then it is a matter of basic rule of law. But that isn't strictly necessary under the Treaty; that is just the local system. Under the treaty, only entering to arrest somebody involved in an official use of the embassy is protected. Since it is literally and legally UK territory, even inside the embassy, there is no way around the legal status of "fugitive from justice inside the UK." Ecuador might like to grant him status in their country, and they're free to issue him paperwork. But he is not actually in Ecuador.
