Real world problems - warehouse sized overlords.
At least, having an AI solve real world problems with advanced sensory feedback and complex appendages is doing more for robotics than silly animatronic detours like https://www.youtube.com/watch?....
Imho, these kind of solutions is what is the real driving force of the future of robotics. Now to have a coffee and think about how our warehouse sized, multiped overlords will shape the future.

Re:Smash the Robots
Don't you know, picking things up and putting them down is a great field to be in for any human...
Seriously though, I wonder if a vacuum cleaner like device (what a pneumatic tube used to do) can be used for dealing with specific types of uses, how about picking fruits?
Some fruits could be picked with a suction device but transporting things via pneumatic tubes comes with a "sudden stop issue" that is incompatible with fruits that must be picked ripe.
http://food.unl.edu/fruits-continue-ripen-after-theyre-pickedOn an unrelated note I can come up for a few more things that can be automated by a 'right hand robot'...

Re:More US warmongering
Ahh, I understand you error now. You seem to think I care, no, I just really enjoy taking the piss out of the US government. I was really offended when they killed a bunch of Australians in a war for profit in Iraq by lying the Australian government into that conflict and allowing your buddies in Ukraine to kill even more. I will never stop taking the piss out of the US government, ever, until justice for those Australians murdered by greed has been served, I will enjoy continuing to take the piss out of the US government, as I have done for the last decade so I will continue to do and now for something totally inappropriate https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

No More Ads on YouTube!
My forays into Youtube have been facilitated by my PS4 and Xbone. I end up posting bugs like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?... or cool moments like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
My friends get to take a look and I think that it is great that now they don't have to put up with ads when checking out my latest video.

Re:City of London Police, NOT Metropolitan Police
CGP Grey has more information about the City of London
https://www.youtube.com/playli...
It should be noted that the "City of London" is London itself and older than antiquity. What we know of London today was where the political powers were removed from the City of London to Westminster and thus "London" grew around it.

Re:Obsolete on Day Zero
the technology is already pretty advanced and the computing power is there to make it work [..] Next gen will already be the one that is "there".
The number one limiting factor with VR is motion sickness and the fact that your body does not experience the motion presented on screen. Solving this would require some sort of at home motion device, and the whole thing just seems too bulky and impractical for widespread adoption.
VR will be "there" when we've got neural implants and a connecting socket on the back of our heads.

Re:Great. They say the threshold is "lifetime views," what you're probably referring to is called "subscribers."
https://youtube-creators.googl...
For example here is a specific video on a channel with around 52K subscribers, but the video itself only has a few thousand "views" explicitly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
There are many other videos with "views" on that channel though and it should be possible for a smaller channel with very few subscribers to have a much higher view total across all videos on that channel.

Re:I wish I could trust "academic experts".
The basics of AGW
The earth has been proven to be warming the closer it gets to the sun in its orbit.
AGW is not a proven condition in the real world. Selectively run experiments in isolated labs that claim AGW to be a real thing aren't legitimate for claims of open air, AGW-created global warming/climate change/[insert next scary moniker needed to continue this scam]. "Scientists" who claim the climate is changing and doing so because of AGW need to prove the climate is indeed changing in the real world and need to prove that AGW is the cause in the real world to the exclusion of all other factors.
Carbon dioxide fluctuates within a minuscule range, but it hovers at about 0.04% of the atmosphere; that does not translate to the claimed AGW "greenhouse" causes for NOAA/IPCC/HadCRUT claimed increases in global temperatures or cataclysmic weather events.
The dishonest climate change scam's scientists and sheepish laymen alike have another problem to sort out: "NOAA’s GHCN systematically eliminated 75% of the world’s stations with a clear bias towards removing higher latitude, high altitude and rural locations, all of which had a tendency to be cooler. The thermometers in a sense marched towards the tropics, the sea and to airport tarmacs." After sorting this out, they will still need to prove climate change, AGW and that climate change is caused by AGW
We are not to be ruled, especially not by arbitrary science nor its credentialed adjutants who refuse to actually exhibit their craft and the claims that are supposedly a product of that craft. Science should be transparent, repeatable, and reproducible - nothing in the climate change problem-reaction-solution scam is any of those things. Honest scientists require challenges of their findings to perfect their craft; embargoing inconvenient challenges is not science - it is totalitarianism.

Weird strategic decisions at Youtube
I'm an active follower of youtube and watch a lot of Vlogs and podcasts and the likes. Rcenetly in the wake of the so called "PewPewdie scandal" youtube has apparently shifted to be more and more restricve about what kind of content they allow to be monetized. Certain tags and words appear to be banned from getting ad-revenue, (recently it came to light their new policy prohibits including 'atheist' in one's channel name, and in general old channels with atheism in their tittle have seen a huge drop in revenue. Have a look at their 'advertiser friendly content guidelines':
Content that is considered "not advertiser-friendly" includes, but is not limited to:
Sexually suggestive content, including partial nudity and sexual humor
Violence, including display of serious injury and events related to violent extremism
Inappropriate language, including harassment, profanity and vulgar language
Promotion of drugs and regulated substances, including selling, use and abuse of such items
Controversial or sensitive subjects and events, including subjects related to war, political conflicts, natural disasters and tragedies, even if graphic imagery is not shown
If any of the above describes any portion of your video, then the video may not be approved for monetization. If monetization is approved, your video may not be eligible for all available ad formats. YouTube reserves the right to not monetize a video, as well as suspend monetization features on channels that repeatedly submit videos violating our policies. This is all very very strange from a business perspective. I understand that youtube/Google wants to give their paying customers - advertisers - more control over the kind of content their ads are displayed on. I understand that they want to compete more directly with services such as Netflix. However, I do not understand their decision to do this in this way. independent content has been the core of YT for a decade now. it's what lifted them to their current position. And now they want to actively reduce their range of content because a single streamer made some jokes some people/companies didn't like? Like, to me it just seems like they're shooting themselves in the foot.
Besides, none of this applies to their corporate users, CNN and other news channels can still run content about terrorism and politics and keep getting ad-money, but if a private individual creates content on the same topic they don't get revenue? This is completely nonsensical. the correct move would be to allow advertisers determine whether or not they want their ads to be run just on 'approved' channels or on all kinds of videos. Hell, I can bet you that there are advertisers that would like to specifically target for example political videos or videos with black/vulgar humor or swears. The people who watch this type of content (myself included) are still consumers that buy items and services and they are a separate segment than those who prefer 'family friendly' content, so preventing advertising for this segment to me makes no sense whatsoever.
Instead of offering a more 'netflix-like' curated experience for those that want it and keeping the 'old youtube' as it is, they've now put in place guidelines which can be used to essentially destroy the majority of independent political vloggers for example. Sure, some of them can manage to keep going via services like Patreon allowing them to accept donationsfunding directly from the audience but that option is really only available to channels with a rather large following.
To me the great thing about YT has been the possibility it offers: if you create content that's appealing to people - whether it's in-depth political analysis, debates, silly animations or just guys s

Obligatory:Intel CPU Backdoor Report
Wonder what kind of remote attack vector is hidden in Intel Wireless Display/Anti-Theft.
The goal of this report is to make the existence of Intel CPU backdoors a common knowledge and provide information on backdoor removal.
What we know about Intel CPU backdoors so far:
TL;DR version
Your Intel CPU and Chipset is running a backdoor as we speak.
The backdoor hardware is inside the CPU/Bridge and the backdoor firmware (Intel Management Engine) is in the chipset flash memory.
30C3 Intel ME live hack:
@21m43s, keystrokes leaked from Intel ME above the OS, wireshark failed to detect packets.
[Video Link] 30C3: Persistent, Stealthy, Remote-controlled Dedicated Hardware Malware
[Quotes] Vortrag:
"DAGGER exploits Intel's Manageability Engine (ME), that executes firmware code such as Intel's Active Management Technology (iAMT), as well as its OOB network channel.""the ME provides a perfect environment for undetectable sensitive data leakage on behalf of the attacker. Our presentation consists of three parts. The first part addresses how to find valuable data in the main memory of the host. The second part exploits the ME's OOB network channel to exfiltrate captured data to an external platform and to inject new attack code to target other interesting data structures available in the host runtime memory. The last part deals with the implementation of a covert network channel based on JitterBug."
"We have recently improved DAGGER's capabilites to include support for 64-bit operating systems and a stealthy update mechanism to download new attack code."
"To be more precise, we show how to conduct a DMA attack using Intel's Manageability Engine (ME)."
"We can permanently monitor the keyboard buffer on both operating system targets."
Backdoor removal:
The backdoor firmware can be removed by following this guide using the me_cleaner script.
Removal requires a Raspberry Pi (with GPIO pins) and a SOIC clip.Decoding Intel backdoors:
The situation is out of control and the Libreboot/Coreboot community is looking for BIOS/Firmware experts to help with the Intel ME decoding effort. If you are skilled in these areas, download Intel ME firmwares from this collection and have a go at them, beware Intel is using a lot of counter measures to prevent their backdoors from being decoded (explained below).

Re:The truth
Of course I disagree, it does not make any sense.
Let me introduce you to Yvette Felarca, a Berkeley elementary school teacher who is on video inciting violence at protests. She is heavily involved in an organization called "By Any Means Necessary," which advocates that "fascism" must not be allowed to take root in Berkeley and that, well, it is what it says it is -- fascism is to be fought by any means necessary. Amusingly, she is a teacher at Martin Luther King Jr Middle School, named after a role model for non-violent protest, yet she feels it is totally justified in physically assaulting white nationalists while screaming "get the fuck off our streets." After the Milo riots in Berkeley where she did the same thing, she grabbed more of the spotlight. While most of the Black Block is camera shy and hide their identities as much as possible, Felarca was brazen enough to go onto Sean Hannity's program where she said it was totally fine to block, with any means necessary, the free speech rights of people she called "fascists, homophobes, and racists," with herself, of course, being the arbiter of who is racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.

But 9-14C is way outside of the consensus view. They need to have strong evidence of this fantastic claim.
They would need strong evidence of such a fantastic claim regardless of whether it was inside the "consensus view".
Science doesn't happen by consensus. It happens by rigorous proof and verifiable, repeatable testing of a (hopefully null) hypothesis.
Climate "science" is a joke, and it has been for decades. Not a single accurate model. Not a single null hypothesis actually tested. No rigor in measurement or data collection. Instead we're looking at a short time period with inconsistent measurements (and still throwing out or "adjusting" data to fit the predetermined conclusions) and engaging in statistical wankery to predict doom and gloom. Unless, of course, we spend lots of money to support the policies and programs of the people funding the research.Go ahead and mod me troll/flamebait and call me a "denier". The Earth's climate is changing, and the greenhouse gas effect is real. However, it's been hotter before, and hotter eras supported more biomass and biodiversity. The planet isn't going to die from a few extra Kelvin or from a bit more CO2, and none of the proposed policies of filching tax dollars will secure your standard of living or save some species that can't adapt. I'm also against polluting in general, as I live here and enjoy clean air and water. But it doesn't take a genius (or maybe it does, in today's society) to realize that all the climate change doom and gloom is political bullshit and not science.

But 9-14C is way outside of the consensus view. They need to have strong evidence of this fantastic claim.

Re:how about employer of last resort?
Your comparison is deeply flawed when speaking to an American. $40k would be very nice in some areas, and it would barely even pay the rent in others.
No, the numbers are about the same. I was simply saying "Canadian" because that's where you led me to believe you were from. Of course, you are cagey on the facts.
Goddamn Milton Friedman supported a fucking UBI, so don't act like you're too conservative for one.
Friedman proposed a negative income tax to replace all current welfare and entitlement programs to the poor; that's not because he thought it was the best possible system, but because he thought it was an improvement on what we have, and I agree. But such a system has no chance in politics and it's not what UBI advocates are aiming for. So, you are lying when you use Friedman as support for UBI.
My income tax would probably go up to about 70% under UBI, and I would simply retire early" Aww! Poor widdle baby throwing a tantrum.
As I was saying, financially, I don't care much since I'm not going to pay for it. Under the UBI, my income would decrease a little, but the tax revenue from me to the US government would go to nearly zero, because I'd simply change how I work so that it's not taxable. And that is true for most people with skills and higher incomes. The people who will suffer are people like you.
The crap you propose has been tried before, in endless permutations, it doesn't work. I've lived through communism and fascism before, I know how this works. It's simply sad when greedy, angry little brownshirts like you set out to wreck one of the few remaining free, functioning countries because you can't do math. Fortunately, historically, Americans have been smarter than that. And if you're Canadian, please go ahead, wreck your country, and serve as a warning and object lesson.
