Re:Managers and engineers
HFT doesn't "suck profits away" from the "buy and hold" traders. The HFTs are making profits off of one or two ticks of movement, while the "buy & holders" are sitting-out movement of tens/hundreds of handles.
Did you intend to copy the script from Office Space while describing this process, or was that an accident? Because you did

Re:Podcasts
I do not have time to listen to them all, but I have a good bank of techy podcasts downloaded for long journeys. See also the YouTube stuff below.
BacterioFiles, Binge Thinking HIstory, Cheap Astronomy Podcasts, Chemistry World Podcast, Diffusion Science radio, Distillations, FQXi Podcast, The Jodcast, London School of Economics Public lectures and events, More or Less: Behind the Stats, Nature Podcast, omega tau >> podcast (en), Planetary Radio: Space, Exploration, Astronomy and Science, Public Lecture Podcast university of Bath, Quirks and Quarks Complete Show from CBC Radio, RRR FM (Einsten A Go Go), SALT - Seminars About Long Term Thinking, Science and the City, Science Magazine Podcast, The Science Show - Full program podcast, Science Weekly, The Silicon Valley Astronomy Lectures Podcasts, SpaceTime with Stuart Gary, Spectrum, This week in Evolution, This Week in Microbiology, This Week in Parasitism, Tox Talk.
These days I mostly watch YouTube lectures and have curated lists here https://www.youtube.com/channe...
YouTube subscriptions are to 200 Universities and institutions, I cant be bothered to type them in.
From which I have created playlists of lectures, take a look if any subject interests you and you can see where the content is from and you can subscribe.
Antimatter, Art, Astronomy, Biology, Black Holes, Chemistry, Climate, CMB, Computers, Cosmic Rays, Cosmology, Current affairs, Dark Matter and Energy, Engineering, Events, Fast Radio Bursts, Food, Fusion, General Relativity, Geology, Gravitational waves, History, Human Genomics, Humor, Humor, Maths, Medicine, Meteorites, microscopy, Neutrinos, Outdoors, Particle Physics, Plants, Quantum computation, Quantum Mechanics, Quasicrystals, Seti and Exoplanets, Solar System, Solar Terrestrial Physics, Spacetime, Superconductivity, Telescopes, Ultradiffuse Galaxies, Vacuum, Video of the Week, Visual Astronomy.
I have watched about half of the lectures in the playlists, the rest I have listened to at least some of it to ensure that the content is not completely off the deep end.
The most recently updated playlist comes first, unfortunately I do not know how to fix YouTube so that the playlists are in alphabetical order so you have to hunt through them for the topic of interest. If anyone was interested I would probably put this all up on a web site and format it for re-consumption but as I only have 5 subscribers I doubt there is much interested in "Curated playlists of public and graduate level Physics and Science lectures from great universities in English. Updated daily." lol indeed.
The content of these lectures is unbelievably good and is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. So it is spectacular that anyone on the planet can watch them for free at the moment. Another good thing is that they do not have any commercials except at the start of a few and there is no deafening music or morons from the TV industry dumbing down and ruining the content. Oh and you need a serious attention span as most are edging an hour long. Absolutely fantastic! I threw my TV away.

Re:Even more fake news
Actually it's just the National Review passing along an "expose" by The Daily Mail. This is the same "newspaper" that claimed a 63 year-old woman became pregnant with baby squid after eating calimari.
If you look into the objections, they're rubbish. The paper in question (Karl et al) is part of an ongoing back-and-forth by scientists over the degree of warming post-1998, so if it is part of a conspiracy by the scientific establishment to cover up contrary data it's a pretty lame conspiracy because it let both sides of the data out.
As for Karl et al, it's a highly technical paper, but to cut to the chase the reason it has the denialists in an uproar is that it proposes a method that erases their precious, cherry-picked post '98 "hiatus". That hiatus didn't exist if you smoothed the data or chose any other starting point but the record setting '98, and it was was blown away by 2014-2016 anyhow. So this is beating a dead horse that was barely alive to begin with. The method in the Karl paper also suggests that the rate of warming since the early 20th C is actually lower than previously believed. Alarmist!
The thing about this kind of bullshit response is that the attraction of a conspiracy theory is that it's quick and easy to understand, as long as you don't try to square it with actual events. People find CTs credible because it says the people bearing bad news are out to get them.

The SS or SchutzStaffel were 'bodyguards' who went around attacking other candidates and their supporters of opposing political parties. I only see violent protests showing up repeatedly in the news coming from the Hillary group, and this predated even the run-up to the election. To violently attack, condone violent attacks, or looking the other was of said violent attacks, merely because you disagree with the opinions or WORDS that another person says is the same thing the SS did. Perhaps you are calling people Nazis and Intolerant because you suffer the psychological condition called PROJECTION.

Not sure why so many comments seem to say that. It's a real hologram, as you can see on this video. The image was real 3D, with people standing next to him, etc.

He's a RINO. Which makes him basically a democrat. But hey, he's not the only one. You notice all those other people on there? You noticed how they shook their head so hard, and believed that they were *still the right ones" and all that? No? You should watch that again then. Then while you're at it, you can watch this little bit by Dave Rubin.
People can whine, complain, stomp their feet or whatever else. But as someone who's "right of center" the left needs to get it's act together because a functinoing democracy doesn't work when one half it is overrun by extremists. And it's not the right however much you want to think it is.

Not a hologram
Marketers seem eager to abuse and misuse establish terms for advertising purposes. First "hoverboard", now "hologram".
As best as I can tell (TFA is devoid of details), this is a glorified version of the system used at Hatsune Miku" concerts - a simple rear projection onto a glass screen. A slightly more sophisticated version uses multiple cameras surrounding the person whose image is being broadcast, and switches between them depending on where the observer camera is positioned. That creates the illusion that the observer can move around the image in 3D, but the illusion only works for the observer being tracked. Anyone else sees a 2D image which rotates depending on where the designated observer moves, not based on where they themselves move.
A true hologram is not conveyed as an image. It is conveyed as an interference pattern created by taking a Fourier transform of a 3D light field. When you take another Fourier transform of that interference pattern (e.g. shine onto it coherent light equivalent to the light that originally created the pattern), it reconstructs the original 3D light field - a hologram. -
Carter suported it
Because the people pointing it out then were being told the ONLY reason to disagree with what was going on was because they were racists. I know you don't believe me, and if only I had some proof. But a video of some idiot no-name leftist would just leave you saying he doesn't represent the DNC. So let me instead bring up one of the TOP DNC leaders.
Video of Carter calling me racists for pointing out what Obama was doing.
Yep, you supported calling me racist and now act like everyone was against what Obama was doing despite supporting him and everything he did for 8 years. You just assumed Clinton would continue on with it using those Federal powers and the IRS to suppress people you don't like. Too bad those powers are going to be used to ENFORCE THE FUCKING LAW, the true liberal nightmare... Equal treatment under the law.

Re:The FUTURE!
Take a look at this video.
And as for creative reasoning, I saw this recently. It's an AI neural network that can color images based on a few hand-drawn squiggles of hints. Okay, so coloring isn't reasoning, but it's creative and that thing does a better job at it than I could. And it exists now and you can play with it yourself over here.

Some people ask intrinsically annoying questions.
Some people ask intrinsically annoying questions.
Case 1: The case of the missing context
1. They have a problem they want to solve
2. They arrive at a solution they want to implement
3. They fail at the implementation -- perhaps because it's an inappropriate one for the original problem
4. They go on a forum
5. They request help on how to implement their solution, giving no context, and leaving the original problem out entirelyThis. Is. Major. F'ing. Annoying.
If they simply told us what problem they were trying to solve, rather than asking how to implement their particularly bad approach to solving the problem, they'd likely get a large number of helpful answers.
Case 2: The mysterious homework I don't want to do myself
1. They get a homework assignment
2. They have some constraints
3. They arrive at a particularly bad implementation based on those constraints
4. They fail at the implementation
5. They go on a forum
6. They actually communicate the problem they are trying to solve (miracle of miracles!), but they won't talk about other solutions to the problem, because other solutions won't fit the artificial constraints placed on the problem as part of it being a homework assignmentThis. Is. Major. F'ing. Annoying.
We suspect it's a homework problem; the professor at IIT gives the same problem to their class each year, and it's that time of year again. They won't confirm this, because we know they are supposed to do their own F'ing homework, and won't help them cheat, if we know for sure they are asking a homework question.
Case 3: The googles, they do nothingk!
1. The solution is well known
2. You are too lazy to look it up using google
3. Instead you go on a forum and ask the question
4. Even though if you asked google the same question, the first hit you'd get is something from two years ago, in that very forum
5. Anyone who was around two years ago realizes you are using the forum as your own personal search engine
6. They give you shit for it -- shit you actually deserve, for being a lazy ass---
Look:
* Do a little research before you ask; someone else has probably had the same problem before, and the answer is already out there
* If not, communicate the problem you are trying to solve
* Your solution is obviously not working, or you wouldn't be asking: it's not interesting, because it doesn't work: don't ask us to fix it
* Don't be so married to your solution that you are unwilling to communicate the problem, and consider alternate solutionsIf it's homework:
* Some people (10%) will actually help you with these -- they are being assholes by robbing you of a learning opportunity
* They figure it's a win-win
* You get the homework solution so you get a passing grade
* You don't actually learn anything in the process
* You are not competition for jobs which would require an actual ability to solve this kind of problem
* Most people (90%), will give you shit for being a lazy ass and not doing your own homework---
The negative reactions you are getting: maybe it's not them; maybe it's you.
Watch the scene with Charlie Sheen giving advice to Jennifer Grey in the police station in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" again. Seriously: it's probably you.

A typical fart is composed of about 59 percent nitrogen, 21 percent hydrogen, 9 percent carbon dioxide, 7 percent methane and 4 percent oxygen. Only about one percent of a fart contains hydrogen sulfide gas and mercaptans, which contain sulfur, and the sulfur is what makes farts stink.

Re: The Guardian goes full racist
Jesus fucking Christ, are you for real? Not even sure if I should reply, but there might be a few stragglers reading this. The women are for real. They spoke at TED. Not TEDx, real TED. They talked about their baby, Black Lives Matter. And you can also see that many people do chant the same slogan, over and over. The slogan at the top of the BLM site I linked. Not all, but it is there.
TED is a conference where you have to pay $6000 just to walk in the door. "Past speakers include Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Al Gore, Gordon Brown, Billy Graham, Richard Dawkins, Bill Gates, Bono, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and many Nobel Prize winners." Yeah, lots of very, very smart and rich and well-connected people run the thing and attend the thing. If TED had been conned by three frauds claiming to have been the originators of the BLM hashtag and a subsequent nationwide BLM movement, someone would notice and it would've been in the fucking newspaper.
I only skimmed the rest of your post after reading that, but it appears to be aimless blithering that's trying to pretend my words mean something other than their plain English meaning.
