I've always preferred Intel motherboards (when they made them) and network cards over the competition because their parts always had good documentation and software support.

I don't know about motherboards but I do know that the reason for their well supported network cards is because of Linux. The internet is mostly Linux servers and servers are their most lucrative market, so ensuring it's well supported is necessary.

Personally I think that RNG works great for roguelikes. But an important part of a roguelike, at least in my opinion, is that those games have a well defined start and ending. You play them in sessions. And those sessions last until you experience virtual death or beat the challenges the game threw at you this time.
Modern roguelikes like Binding of Isaac for example take you between half an hour and an hour to finish them successfully. Then you can decide whether to take a break or not, because the game gives you a very clear opportunity to do so. It's part of the game design.

FOSS PLC-s are a thing though, admittedly, they are not very good compared to commercial variants, but they do exist. And given that PC based PLC-s are very successful these days, there is hope that eventually there will be a FOSS variant that works well enough to use in actual industrial settings.

But it's a good example that exposes the weakness of open source development. FOSS might come out on top eventually, but the questions is, how far away is that "eventually", a year, a decade, more? Given enough incentive and developers a competitive PC based PLC could be made out of open source components today, all of it exists. It's not like there is some fundamental show-stopper in the way. It's just that there is a ton on busywork to put it all together, iron out all the kinks and package it nicely with a bow on top.

That's completely FOSS controlled. The problem is, getting it to work at all was sketchy as all hell and took couple of days of banging my head against the wall, doing the same task with proprietary software is a trivial exercise of few minutes.

I mostly agree with all of this, but one thing I didn't mention in my original post is that I am also dealing with man rated safety systems and inherently safe PLCs. No one in their right mind is ever going to sign off on system that isn't certified at the appropriate SIL level. That in itself is a hard limit that FOSS can't cross by the very nature of the requirements.

On the other hand there several companies building rugged Arduinos for industrial settings.

Going by the number of times they've done that, I'd say Movie Pass has gone Robot Chicken.

Sure, they obviously listen to their science advisor and make their science mostly correct.
But is that in itself funny?
Do you really need to understand the science they are using to get it?

The joke lies in the fact that the characters will use a complicated sounding science explanations for various things here and there. Because they're nerds and that is what nerds do. And that is the joke.
The writers may as well tell people complete and utter gibberish, like Star Trek does, and it will trick the majority of their target audience into thinking that the characters know what they are doing.

Now let's assume that they really use live studio audience. Pay attention to when the laughter starts to set in. It starts when the other 'nerds' start laughing. Because you know, they get the joke. And then the non nerd character makes a comment about why they didn't laugh, which is a pretty obvious deflection. And again laughter. That is where the main humour is in this show, not in the science or how science works, but how the characters apply it in various situations that often cause awkwardness.

Totally agree on the laugh track. It complety ruins pretty much any show.

Fake laugh track can work if the jokes are funny and/or they adjust the laugh-intensity to fit the joke. The problem with Big Bang is that after 2 seasons the jokes are so predictable it's just sad. Adding a hysterical laugh after each lame punchline just makes it that much worse

Laugh track didn't really bug me much until I watched Better Off Ted. It doesn't have any laugh track at all and I'm lauging because of the show actually being funny, not because I hear someone else laugh. Now laugh tracks just annoys me.

Edmunds.com drove across America in a 2013 Tesla S P85, and had to stop to charge for one hour for every 3-1/2 hours of driving (so typically every 150mile/250km you must stop for ONE FUCKING HOUR to recharge. And Edmunds only charged enough to get to the next Supercharger...no side trips. In real life, you'd have to stop even longer to recharge if you want to drive around town for a real life driving.
